When I import photos from my iPhone to iPhoto I created a folder for photos that I want to move to my external hard drive. I hooked up my external hard drive to my MacBook Pro and tried to copy and paste the pics from that folder to my external hard drive and its not letting me copy anything to the external hard drive and I have no idea why. How come I can't cut and paste to my external hard drive?

I recently got myself a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems transferring files from my old Windows XP based laptop. I downloaded the Windows Migration Assistant onto my old laptop but everytime I tried to run it I got various error messages telling me I needed to upgrade this and that. Now the laptop has decided to give in totally and won't switch on at all! I do have all my music etc backed up onto an external hard drive but when I connect it to my MacBook it just doesn't want to know, I assume as all the data on there is formatted as Windows.

My iTunes library got too big so I moved it to my external hard drive and now that I have space for it on my macbook, I want to move it back but cant. It keeps stopping saying that it cant move certain files then it stops the transferring process altogether. I've tried moving it several times but it keeps failing on me. Anyone have an idea as to why it keeps stopping the transfer on me?

View 12 Replies View RelatedToday I decided to change the HDD in my MBP. I read the manual prior to that so I was all set. It took me almost an hour to take the metal back off, it was a pain in the ass as I had one of those small japanese screwdrivers set with no proper grip. However when I disassembled everything, to my shocking discovery I came to those type of screes I rarely see. Those 4 screes on the side of the HDD (mounting screws). I could not take them out since I had no tool for that, Im not a native english speaker so I wanted to ask anyone how are those screws called and also the proper took size or name so I can buy it tomorrow.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook pro wouldn't turn on. I booted to the installation DVD and installed OS X to the external drive. Once the installation was done, I was able to access my laptop without any problem and I retrieved all my files from the USERS Folder. I tried to copy my old files to the external disk, before formatting the system’s internal drive and reinstalling OS X.
However, at every attempt, I’d get “some data can’t bet read or written (Error Code -36)”. I ran a Verify/Repair Disk Permissions and this is what I got:
I am new to Mac. I just need to move some files to my external HDD. When I open the folder these files are in they all highlight and I am able to drag them to my external hard drive. However, once I get them into the hard drive folder a red circle with an "x" comes up indicating that I cannot drop here. I also noticed that the external hard disk folder has an icon that is a pen with a circle and a line thought it. I am thinking that this means that I cannot write to that drive. I am able to move files from the external to the Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't figure out how to highlight and move multiple files from my local hard drive to an external drive. Is this simply not possible with Apple's OS? Seems too ridiculous for that to be the case. I can move individual files by Command+dragging the file, but it won't let me do that with multiple files.
I can move the parent folder, with the contents, but that's not what I want to do, since I only want some of the files within it. What I've been doing so far is highlighting and copying the multiple files and then deleting the originals afterwards. But this is a major time waster for me. This must be possible, how could they make an OS that doesn't allow this?
i´m trying to copy pase videos, pictures and word documents from the hard drive om my iMac to an external drive. I can't because the paste function is gray and not working. I do not understand?

Currently running OSX 10.8.5. Trying to move iTunes Music directory and iPhoto to new external hard drive. They currently reside on a 1.5T WD My Passport drive. Need to copy the directories to my iMac (3.4 GHz i7) desktop and then onto my new external HD. When trying to copy to my hard drive, I get the popup: "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)."
These popups occur every few audio files. Thing is the files are not corrupt (I can play them in iTunes) and the volume was confirmed as clean by disk utility.
How do I move all the files? Line command via Terminal (if so I need specific instructions as I am not a coder).
I wanted to move the files originally because I was having problems in iPhoto. Rebuilt iPhoto using iPhoto Library Manager, but in rebuilding and reimporting images, I ran out of hard drive space. Saving iPhoto is paramount because it's the only source for my digital photos.

I want to get a mac but one thing that concerns me is my itunes. I have a massive library and if I get a mac I will need to copy the library to my external hard drive from my pc then copy it again to the mac. How could I do this without losing my playlists, rating etc? And also if you have all your photos in iPhoto can you access them without opening iPhoto? If you can how? Because I have played around on Macs in the Apple Store and couldn't see where they would be!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a second hand macbook pro which came with a full Adobe Suite. I very much want to keep all the programmes, but dont want them taking up space on my internal hard drive. Can I simply move them over to my 500GB external hard drive? Or would this damage the application? and would I be able to run them just the same from the external HD location?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI moved mail from an exchange server to my computer to get around using to much space at work. I then dragged that folder to my desktop which created a .mbox file. When I try to move the .mbox file from my desktop to an external hard drive it wont move. a grey circle with an exclamation point appears. I tried doing it with Entourage close as well and got the same issue. Does anyone know the proper way for me to move the .mbox file from the desktop to the external hard drive?
