View 3 RepliesAfter upgrading from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6(and 10.6.1) my control panel Security does not open but crashes. With the upgrade to 10.6.1 the control panel now says "loading Security (32 bit" but will not open the Security control panel. All other control panels icons work on my duel 2.93 Mac Pro.

Everything else in System Preference works, but when I click on Security the program would freeze then shut itself down.....
Does anyone had the same problem and eventually solved it?

I can't open the Security preference pane in System Preferences. I can open desktop settings, spotlight, expos & spaces etc just fine, but the moment I click 'Security', I get the spinning beach ball, system preferences freezes and I have to force shut it down. I made a quick video using Screenflow to demonstrate the issue (the beach ball doesn't seem to appear in the video .. it did though)

I tried repairing the permissions. Didn't work.
I am using OS 10.5.8.
In the past, I could double click on my disk image file (secure.sparseimage) and it would procede to ask for password and then open.
Since the last security update, when I double click on the same file, it opens disk utility. I then have to double click on the secure.sparseimage file in the left pane.
I checked disk utility preferences and it is still set to automatically open both read only and read and write disk images.
Anyone have the same experience and possibly an explanation or solution?

I have been able to open pdfs perfectly well up until I changed the security settings on Adobe Reader. As I read somewhere that Apples have an inbuilt pdf reader I trashed everything Adobe, but still can't open pdfs. Tried using Preview to no avail.
Is there some other way of opening pdfs without reinstalling Adobe?
I get this message when opening an Excel doc from Outlook Email "This attachment was removed because it contains data that could pose a security risk". I know this doc is safe, how do I get to see it?

I have just updated my Adobe Reader and now I can't download and open pdf files anymore.
I tried going through the preferences in Reader, but it says that the setting is tied in with 'security administration' settings on Mac OS X.
I have not actually changed anything in the settings so am assuming that this is something to do with the most recent update to either Adobe Reader or OS X security.

I've corrupted the preference panel for .Mac in my 10.4 installation. Does anyone know where I can get the .prefs app to reinstall for it so I can get that page in Preferences up again? I don't want to reinstall the whole thing!

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf anybody here has a camcorder with a Firewire output, can you check something for me? I'm trying to use the front panel FW port on my new Mac Pro and it doesn't see my camcorder (Canon GL2) when I plug it in to capture footage. It IS seen if I plug the same FW cable into the port on the back of the ACD so that seems to rule out a bad FW cable. Also, the port seems to be working because it will see a FW CF cardreader when I insert it into the port. Any ideas? Is there a difference between the front and rear FW ports on the latest Mac Pro?
View 12 Replies View RelatedUntil yesterday my Mail prog displayed a list of emails in the top panel and the content of any selected e-mail in the lower panel of the display.
It now only displays one large panel containing the list of emails, and to read an email I now have to double-click and open it in a second window.
How do I get back to the standard two panel display with one above the other?
I have two computers (Mac and PC) connected to a cable modem via Belkin router. Both can connect to the Internet.
My Power Mac G5 2Ghz has two internal hard drives. My primary boot drive has Leopard 10.5.6 and the secondary has Tiger 10.4.11.
I had the built in Firewall set for "Allow only Essential Services" then I changed it back to "Allow all incoming connections" before I installed Netbarrier X5. My access to the internet and router/control panel was fine.
Then suddenly my G5 (Leopard) was no longer able to log into the router/control panel only the PC (Windows XP). Tried Safari and Firefox and both come back with the error message "Safari can't connect to server."
When I boot the G5 into "Safe Mode" it is the same thing, can connect to the internet but have no access to the router control panel. So it can't be Netbarrier.
But If I my G5 reboot with my second drive that has Tiger. My access to the router's control panel is restored.
The displays on my flat panel iMac G4 (2003) suddenly have gone 'red': sometimes it will return to 'blue' and be ok. Is this a dying flat panel or can I fixit?

How can I get them off the top right control panel?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro 15.4" (Model: A1211). The LCD screen is broken and Iam trying to replace it. The original panel that came with the laptop was AU Optronics (BP154W01 V.1) with native resolution of 1440x900. Since I could not get the same panel, I ordered the LG Philips, LP154W02 B1 K2, model with a native resolution of 1680x1050.
Now, when I powerup the laptop the screen remains dark and the machine does not boot up. PS: With the damaged LCD connected, I connected the laptop to an external display and everything works perfectly.
Is it possible to reassign the front panel 3.5mm jack to mic in?
I'd like to connect a headset (mic + headphones) to be able to talk on Skype, but unfortunately there is no normal mic in just like on all Macs. I bought a cheap jack-to-USB converter (basically, small USB soundcard) on eBay but the sound is a little noisy when I use it.
I shall describe the sequence of events as accurately as i can.
1) I havent used my mac pro for a couple of weeks
2) I switch it on 5 mins ago and it boots fine, I log in and launch safari from the dock.
3) Computer freezes, mouse doesn't move, complete unresponsive.
4) I push power button for a few seconds to force a shut down.
5) I power up.
6) boots fine, after surfing the web for a few mins, MP just reboots, no warning, screen just goes black and the fans and chime kick in.
7) doesn't get to log in screen, instead it reboots itself, fans and chimes kick in
8) doesn't like it, computer shuts down, front panel light blinking at 1/2 second intervals.
