I've just discovered that I can't access the Firewall tab in the Security & Privacy settings pane. I click on it, but nothing happens. I'm pretty sure that I was able to do this before and turn my firewall on - I get asked sometimes if I can allow an app to receive incoming connections.

I've cleared the preference file and system prefs/spotlight caches with no luck. Repaired permissions. It seems the Music icon is holding up the others. If I re-arrange them they break only after "Music." This is in the console after opening the preference pane:Â

I can't open the Security preference pane in System Preferences. I can open desktop settings, spotlight, expos & spaces etc just fine, but the moment I click 'Security', I get the spinning beach ball, system preferences freezes and I have to force shut it down. I made a quick video using Screenflow to demonstrate the issue (the beach ball doesn't seem to appear in the video .. it did though)

I tried repairing the permissions. Didn't work.
Today my Keyboard.prefPane stopped working. When I click it, I get the load message on the title scrren, but it never loads. If I click the button again the window goes blank. While doing this, I get this on Console. What can I do to get it working again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright, this is possibly the strangest bug I've ever encountered on my mac. Right now, in my System Preferences, the Accounts pane won't load. Every other pane, including custom ones, works fine. But if I click on the Accounts pane, it chills there saying "Loading Accounts". If I click it again, it pulls up an empty pane. Also, under the Sharing pane, if I go to SMB sharing and click "configure accounts", nothing happens. I assumed it was permissions, but that didn't fix it. I did a full disk verification too, and that didn't help. The pref pane is there, I have read permission for everything, and the .nibs all open up in Interface Builder fine.
View 18 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else found that their screensaver system preferences pane crashes to the desktop when you try to access it? Ever since I upgraded to 10.5.6 I have had this problem. My screensaver is now just a black screen and I can't change it because the preference pane crashes everytime. Spaces, expose and dashboard seem to now only work when they want and its not very often. I have reinstalled 10.5.6 using the combo update to see if that fixes things but it doesnt. I have been send all the crash reports to Apple. This is REALLY getting me mad now! Im on a PMG5 dual 1.8. Never had any problems with it until 10.5.6 came along. I have an ATI X800XT could the update of the ATI stuff in 10.5.6 be causing all this crap? I am reluctant to do a clean install because it will take me days to get all my apps back and how I have them set up now plus I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference as the combo update hasn't.

What's up in Safari 5.1.3 Cookies. After removing all the website data, I recently chose "Block Cookies Always" After opening "Yahoo" in Safari, I looked at the "Privacy Preference Pane" again. It now reads "Block cookies Always" and says 37 websites stored cookies or other data. I looks like the choice to block cookies has little effect on Safari. Is there any way to protect yourself from unwanted cookies? By the way, in order to sign in to the Apple discussion website, cookies must be enabled.

I have recently begun to use a fios router for my home network. When originally set up by fios they set the security to wep, and I set my network prefences as such. Since then I have changed the router to wpa security My network prefences still shows that wep encryption is being used. It still connects to the net but I can't figure out how to change it to reflect wpa security. Or since I am connecting to the net , is it necessary.

A few days ago my email was hacked into which sent a spam email to all my contacts. I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything seems to be working fine (and fast ) except for System Preferences. Whenever I double click the icon on my desktop, it says I need to upgrade System Preferences and that I am currently using version 5.2. So how do I upgrade System Preferences? Never mind, I figured it out. The 6.0 version of SP was in the Applications folder, while it kept the 5.2 version on my desktop.

I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 on an iBook and for some reason, when I select Accounts in the System Preferences, I get nothing but a blank screen. I can't manage the accounts since I can't see the accounts to manage or any of the settings. I threw away the cache and restarted System preferences to see if that would help. It says "Loading Accounts..." but it never loads the that system preference. If I click it again, it comes up blank again and the cache is regenerated. This machine was purchased used and I don't have the OS disks to relaod the system.

In addition, whenever I shut down my computer, it resets all of the user preferences I had prior to shutting it down, for instance, wallpaper, dock layout, default browser, etc etc.
