I tried the following, to no avail:reset my AppleID password (and use the new password to try and log in)make sure the system timezone was correctquit iMessage, and rebootverify I could log into iMessage on my iPhone
Other people around me on the same network can connect just fine, so I am suspecting I may have something to do with the ID itself, which contains a "+".

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes mac have a 'character map' like windows? Or is there something similar to character map where I can view all the font designs? Regarding fonts again... hmm when I go to the font folder and double click on a font, the font doesn't open unless I choose an application to open with. What application should I use to open and view the font?

When someone asked me how I got that in my profile I went through the steps and found that the character was missing from the keyboard and character viewer. Did Apple remove it in Snow leopard or did I do something to lose it? If I can get it back how do I do that?

When replacing pre-populated (untitled folder) or selected text in Finder, Safari, etc. a special character is added about 1/3 of the time. You can't see it in Finder, but it does show in file names viewed in Terminal, in URLs (only after you hit enter and Safari gets confused) in the file name at the top of certain apps, or on PCs.

I am trying to hunt down a mystery for a friend using her macbook air (Lion).
She is trying to add special characters (accents, etc.) to words in a MIcrosoft Word 2008 document.
Sometimes she can hold the key, and the special characters menu will pop up. Sometimes she will get the "old" repeating letter (eeeeeeeeeeeee). I tried to look at everything I could think of, but there seems to be no earthly reason why it does it sometimes but not all the time.
The only explanation I could guess at was that it was Word 2008 and Lion (and not Word 2011).

I haven't had this work with Lion on my macbook pro that just died nor the Macbook Air I just got. I use accents on letters all the time and it would be really helpfu. I've tried turning off key repeat, that doesn't help. I tried copy and pasting something into terminal I saw on one of the other discussions, but that didn't help either (although it is possible I did it wrong since I don't use Terminal hardly ever).

I can no longer hold down a key and get the character to repeat as say, aaaaa. Instead I get a menu of accented a's, such as àáâäæãåā. I can't find any thing in the System Preferences that allows my to turn this function off.

Recently, I Create a some days account for a visiting son on my MacBook Pro, and after erased that account, I noticed his former previous Public Folder appeard on File Sharing, on Sharing panel, but with a finder icon. As I tried to erased it, it said I cannot access to that folder because it doesn't exist or something. I create that account again, and went back to File Sharing -folder icon was as usual- click on the (–) buttom and be asked "Are you sure you want to stop sharing the folder "Son's Public Folder"; answered "yes" but nothing happens. Tried the same with my own folder and happens exactly the same.
notice that I can add some other folder, and erase it too, but not those two. Restore premissions and have the newest Software Update's.

If I am in Mail on my MacBook the mail program knows nothing about any addresses in my contact list.
The Address Panel and Previous Contacts lists are empty.
If I open my contacts list - I see all my contacts properly.
They also sync properly between my phone and macbook. I can add a contact to my pone and a second or two later it appears on my MB; and I can add a contact to my MB and seconds later it appears on my phone.
Here is when I believe the problem started.
I wanted all my mail and contacts to be in my 'documents' folder so I could sync that folder, and only that folder, between multiple places and machines and also backup everything in one fell swoop.
a) I moved the mail and the application support/addressbook folders from my library to my docs folder.
b) In the terminal created hard links in the original places pointing to the new. I was careful to make hard links not soft.
From the finder and from the terminal the links are all working fine works fine. And as I mentioned the sync function to my phone finds the moved files and works great. Mail work fine. I can create new accounts etc so mail preferences work fine. I also did this with my messages and dropbox and they are working fine.
I am running 10.8.2 build 12C60 and Mail 6.2 (1499) on a MB Pro 15" Early'08 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Could Mail have a relative address or very low level address to the addressbook built into it?

I've corrupted the preference panel for .Mac in my 10.4 installation. Does anyone know where I can get the .prefs app to reinstall for it so I can get that page in Preferences up again? I don't want to reinstall the whole thing!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read tutorials on it, Ive downloaded it, played with it, uninstalled it. I have to be missing something here. To me it looks just like a more complicated way to get to programs and things you want. What am I missing? What does it really do? I don't get why everyone is so in love with this program. Everything online I find about it gushes about how great it is but always ends up boiling down to "it helps you open applications faster".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just acquired a G4 Power Mac and have noticed some odd screws I don't have tools for; maybe someone here has dealt with this before. I have searched the forums here and found a previous discussion about the main case screws near the handles. Someone said that they are 2.5mm hex, but on my case a 3mm hex fit perfectly. But the problem I have is with the really bitty hex screws that hold the keyboard together. The guy at the local hardware store was convinced that they are Torx, but the only torx we could get to fit, a T5, was rather loose and has now rounded off to the point where it won't do anything. And I am now convinced these ARE hex. But the size is in the 1.25mm range and I can't find any actual tools like that. I know for sure that .050" (1.27mm) is too big. The T5 torx measures .048". I suppose that the simple thing to do is file a .050" one down just enough to fit. Anybody know? There must be some special Apple tool for this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat's so special about Windows 7? I hear a lot of people saying really good things about it and some even go as far to say its better than OS X. Now, I haven't actually used it, but the new taskbar just seems like its a blown up version of quick launch. You see pictures of what windows you have open instead of words. Big deal. I have to admit the whole dragging windows to the edge of the screen thing is sort of cool. But just that won't make most people upgrade. Its nice that it's not supposed to throw stupid security messages at your face all day, though. What's the huge difference between Vista and 7?

I did discover that if I press the green button on the iMac and put the unit to sleep for just a moment then awaken it, the monitor is fine. Tried zapping PRAM, fixing permissions, trashing system.plist. I thought it might be an energy saver issue but I cannot find the preference file for that.

Last month, my mac pro stopped working. I can still hear the chime but nothing loads in the scree. So i brought it to a service center and they told me it's problem with the video card and that I have to pay 500 dollars for that. I am hesitant to shell out that big amount of a cash. Been using the Mac for 3 years now. the video card is nvidia p435(says on the sticker) which i think is a 7300 gt. My question is, can I use PC video cards for this cause I find the similarity. Since it's PCI-e then it should fit and work. My only concern is if they is a special driver that needs to be installed.
