Software :: Option Button Doesn't Lights Up
Apr 1, 2009I installed a larger hard Drive (100 GB) on my Apple ibook G4. Everything went smoothly until I tried to reinstall the disks that came with my computer (OSX 10.3). I put in the first disk and it runs fine until it comes to the part on "where to install" and the options button is supposed to light up. It does not so I can not get any further.

Mac Mini :: Restart Message - Hold Power Button / Press Restart Button
Apr 29, 2009I have just shipped my Mac Mini to its new home and I've had reports that the panic error is appearing on boot up: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart Button." This screen appears on the blue window just after the grey apple screen has disappeared and does not get as far as the desktop at the same point each time. We have tried to reinstall mac OS from the original install disk but holding the "C" Key or the "Option" Key down on restart doesn't boot from disc. Is there a way you can view the Kernel Panic log before you boot into Mac OS so we can try and pin point the source of this problem. I'm wondering if this could have been the result of the shipping that has caused some hardware to come loose.

May 4, 2012I ran my usual check on the mac drive via "Verify Disk" option. It came up with "needs repair"...etc., and told me to repair it. I did a command r during boot so I could do a repair, and the software told me "your mac drive seems to be ok"??? Some kind of glitch, or need I worry about it at all?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: For PDF Documents The "archive As" Button Do Not Appear But Only The "active" Button?
May 4, 2012My "achive as" button do not appear when im trying to save a scanned PDF document but only the "achive" button. I have tried seraching the internet for answer but without any result. A solution to the prblem is to press doublicate and then "archive" then i get the option to save in a specific loaction (notice that even after doublicating i don't get the option to archvie as).
-The problem also appears on exsisting pdf document and documents from other users.
- i open it in apple standard preview program
- The problem appaered 6 months ago after and general apple software upgrade.
- I don't have any "download" folder in my finder menu ( I don't know if this is a relevant information but could have somthing to do with the settings i.e. as administor even though it is my own mac).

Sep 12, 2014I cannot start up my Mac Pro 2008 without holding down the Option key.My Snow Leopard internal hard drive failed, so I replaced my failed internal drive with a brand new one and put the cloned backup onto it. I also have other internal drives and partitions with systems 10.5.6, 10.7.5, and 10.8.4. I briefly added a Mavericks partition, but removed it.
I THINK the problems started after the HD failure, but I'm not sure. I added no peripherals recently, although I did add 4 gigs of RAM which were faulty and I had to replace them. But they test fine with a memory test. If I Restart, the Mac comes up with a grey screen and won't boot into any system.
If I Shut down, then Start up, I get the gray screen. In System Preferences, I can see every single possible Startup Drive, but no matter which one I select, the same gray screen happens on boot up. However, if I hold down the Option key (from startup or restart), then I can choose any startup volume and it starts just fine.
I've run Disk Utility many times for Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on every volume. I've run Disk Warrior. I've zapped the SMC/PRAM, etc. I've tried starting up from external firewire drives and USB drives. No matter which drive I select in StartUp Disk Preferences, it's the same grey screen. I've tried starting up with ZERO peripherals attached except for USB keyboard and mouse. I've taken out all startup and login items. I don't mind using the Option key every time, but I'm worried it's a sign of impending problems.

OS X :: Best Option For Migrating Data From PC To Mac?
Nov 11, 2009I never thought I'd say it, but after decades of PC use I am finally seriously considering switching to the world of Mac, which would entail a pretty massive data migration. Anyone know if there's a way to just link up my ATA hard drive from my PC to a Mac via USB or firewire or something, and just transfer the data (word docs, photos, music - obviously not apps) to the hypothetical new Mac? That would be a heck of a lot easier than burning a jillion CDs in order to transfer the data, which is my current best option.
Also, and this is more obscure, and might not even be possible, but I figure I'd ask - I've been using Eudora as a mail client for years (really old version, 3.0, still works under XP believe it or not). I would love to be able to migrate my mail. Eudora 3.0 stores the mail as text in these files marked ".mbx", but of course, it's not that simple, because to actually index them, the app has to refer to corresponding "table of contents" files with a ".toc" extension. I could transfer the .mbx files to a new mac easily enough - I mean, they're just text - but it would be lovely, so lovely, to keep the indexing. Anyone know of a converter out there that could carry that all over into a mail client, any mail client, for Mac OS?

I do a lot of graphic design work; I use Adobe CS4's Master Collection and I mean I use it all. I am running it on my MacBook Pro and it's been great but I want to get a serious machine; aka Mac Pro.
I also use Final Cut Studio 2 once in a while for Final Cut Pro, Motion and Color specifically.
What machine do you think I should look at. I'm looking at getting a machine that will last me a long time.
I want one of the current Mac Pro's. Reason being is used / refurbished machines anger me due to many many problems I have had in the past.
So what are your thoughts on the configuration. You think the "low end" Mac Pro should work find considering I will rarely, if ever, use the power of an 8-core machine?

Dec 24, 2009This is a bit of a strange problem, and I'm not entirely certain what caused the behavior I liked in the first place. I thought it was a Snow Leopard problem, but friends of mine have said they've never had the behavior I seem to have lost. I use Adium every day, and I like to have my window in the bottom corner of my screen, below the top of the dock, like so: In Leopard, this window always stayed in its position, even if I closed it.
However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, the bottom of the window aligns itself to the top of the dock. This is an irritating behavior and I'd like the old one back, however, I've done some pretty extensive searching to no avail. In lieu of getting this exact behavior back, could anyone recommend a program that might force the window to remember its old position or lock positions or something?

Feb 4, 2010I am not that new of a mac user, but one of the biggest things that Im having trouble with coming from windows is that in windows when you get a dialogue box it comes with a selected option, pressing enter would automatically activate the selected option. Now this is the same in OSX, but in windows you could press tab and the highlighted option would change. For example, in a save dont save box, how do I change the blue shadow without making a trip to the mouse?

Is anyone else in the same boat, and have you found a way to remap that right-option key to "enter?" I thought DoubleCommand might do the trick, but it looks like you're limited to a set of predefined keyswaps, none of which are what I'm looking for.
