I have a bit of an odd situation. I purchased a Microsoft Digital Media Pro 3000 keyboard today (great boxing day sale for $14.00!) and noticed that in System Preferences I now have an option for Ink - this wasn't there before and it disappears as soon as I unplug the keyboard, does anyone know why this happens?

The weird thing is Microsoft's keyboard can't understand the swap. When I press the control key, sometimes it thinks I am pressing command and sometimes it thinks I am pressing control.
Is a usb keyboard needed to switch between OS X and Windows in bootcamp when holding down the option key, or should the Apple bluetooth wireless keyboard work as well?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy G5 recently died, and I upgraded to a MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, and my keyboard is not working correctly. It seems that the Microsoft Intellipoint software does not work right. I don't really care about most of the bells and whistles, but I really need to remap my crt and alt keys to their mac equivalents, and add an eject key. Without those this keyboard is useless, and I need it, as I get bad carpal tunnel syndrome. Is there alternate software than microsofts that will work? I am willing to buy it, just need to know my best options.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a new iMac (OS 10.7.4) and was wondereing if it possible to stop my machine from constantly changing the input menu from "Britsh" to "U.S.". This is the item with the small national flag icon in the Finder menu.
Is there a way of removing one of these options permanently, in my case remove the U.S. option?
I'm guessing it's connected with my recently updating my MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7) to OS 10.9.4. Whether I open Word by clicking on a Word document, opening it via Spotlight, or directly clicking the application icon itself, my keyboard is changed from Dvorak to the standard American English keyboard. And as if that weren't irritating enough, if I change the keyboard back to Dvorak, opening another Word document while Word is still open causes it to flip back to American English.

One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

I have read that if you only uninstall part of Microsoft Office, it'll create problems with the other programs in the suite. How can I go about safely uninstalling these programs? Do I need to fully uninstall and then re-install? I made sure while installing Office to opt for a custom installation so I could un-check Entourage and Messenger. However, I didn't see those specific programs on the custom installation list. Are they maybe under a different name (like, for example, "Microsoft Essentials")? I don't know what to do. View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran my usual check on the mac drive via "Verify Disk" option. It came up with "needs repair"...etc., and told me to repair it. I did a command r during boot so I could do a repair, and the software told me "your mac drive seems to be ok"??? Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.
I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. Also I remember there is like a back-up shortcut (or something like that don't know what is it exactly named) consisting of three keyboard button.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I just got a generic usb keyboard to use with my mbp as schoolwork is taking its toll on the keys and I wouldn't mind preserving it a little better.
This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal

I bought a new i7 iMac about two months ago and love it but the Bluetooth keyboard it came with recently started acting up. It randomly disconnects and when it does it will type whatever letter I last hit on the keyboard repeatly.

I am contemplating just not using it, however it really does put the keyboard in a more natural place for me to sit correctly. I alternate between French and English regularly when typing, but every time I have to go to System Preferences (or add an ugly flag that does not match the color-scheme to the status-bar) and change the language. Is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut that switches between two keyboard shortcuts?
