OS X :: How To Do Global Finder Settings
Aug 9, 2009quick question. How do I set global finder settings? I like my finder windows to be sorted by kind, that way they are alphabetical but folders and files arent mixed in the list. I know I can use "show view options" to do this, but I have to do that for each folder seperately. How do I access the global settings? Google, search here, and OSX search haven't found anything.

Jun 15, 2010I've been customizing my folders using the View Options window in each folder separately, and I was wondering if there was an application or script that would change my view options (font sizes, icon size and spacing, background image, etc) for ALL folders, on a system-wide level.
I know there has to be a way to do it, but every time I try, I only change settings for the parent folder. Sorta 2 part question, I guess... How do I change the text underneath "Macintosh HD" such as "500GB, 457GB free." I know it's a string that can be changed, but I've forgotten where it's located.

ICloud :: Just Hide IDisk In Finder Preferences?
Jul 1, 2012I've migrated my MobileMe info to iCloud, though I'm stuck on Snow Leopard on my MacPro (I work with FCP 7 a lot). iDisk is dead right? We're not able to access our iCloud data via iDisk are we?Should I just hide iDisk in Finder Preferences since I can't use it anymore?
Should I log out of my MobileMe account in System Preferences to prevent anything that might have used iDisk from trying to access it?

Aug 14, 2010I know how to disable the displaying of all Bonjour shares using Finder's preferences but how would I go about hiding specific ones independently? I have a bunch of Windows computers and a couple printers on my network that show up and fill up my side bar. Sep 8, 2010I want a program where I can press some sort of combination of keys and I'll get a prompt, and then I can type a command that I can customize and it'll type the custom output.
For Instance:
I hit option-alt-space and something comes up and i type gotoserver and it types ssh -l user 192.168.1.1 so it types it in the terminal for me.
or maybe even opens up terminal and types that in for me maybe it could even wait for a prompt or for some time and then type the password too.
I got quickeys but I can't get it to do anything like this.
Applications :: Can't Assign Macro In Excel
Mar 4, 2009I spent at least 30 minutes struggling with my new computer because the path name of my macros had changed. Turns out, you must manually change every item in your Excel palettes that calls a macro. That's easy, you control click on the palette icon, select 'assign macro', and choose the macro.
But although that command was not greyed-out, when I selected it, nothing would happen. There was no error message.
I found no solutions on the internet, and in the course of the 30 minutes, tried various desperate things involving new taskbars, searching for mysterious excel.xlb files, VBA scripts to build taskbars. In the course of that, I broke a bunch of things on the palette. But I found the solution, and joined this group, just so I could tell the world.
You have to have some worksheet open.
Yes, that's it. It makes no sense, but that's it.
Software :: Macro Virus In Every Word Doc?
Feb 6, 2009It seems that every word doc I create has a self generated macro virus embedded in it and when I go to email it as an attachment GMAIL doesn't allow it to be attached.
I also get the warning window about disabling Macros when ever I go to open a word doc on my MacBook Pro.
How do i alleviate this virus from existing docs without destroying content and also rid my laptop of future issues with this virus.

Applications :: Importing Data Into Excel - How To Use Macro
Dec 8, 2009I am trying to make an excel sheet on all of my photos. I have found a program to exports exif information in html or txt files and it is the only program I have found that displays the fields I need (Windows XP title, comments, keywords, etc). Anyway, the program will only export all of the data (I can't just select the fields I want) and it also makes a new files for each photos (and names them whatever the photo is named so yes sequential). I have been playing with importing html and txt files into Excel 2008 and need help. I am looking for a way to only import the rows I need and to automate it so I don't have to do 10,000 photos by hand.
On another forum, it was suggested to use VBA (visual basics) in excel on windows which looks promising but I know little about it and will have to borrow my sister's dell to do. Another suggestion was to combine the text files and use a Macro in excel in which I also have little idea on how to use. Can Apple Script or Automator or any thing else help me here? I know Excel 2008 for Mac doesn't have VB but what about macro on it?

Apr 19, 2010ok so I have 13000 track on my computer. I probably hate 9000 of them. This collection has been building up for a good 10 years. I like to listen to music on random. I want to be able to either hit "next" or "delete".
I dont want to have go to itunes window, hit delete then "Move to trash". I want the delete button to do that. even if I'm not on the itunes window.
thoughts? It also doesn't have to be itunes. I don't care what it is. if its not itunes i can use it for a month to syphon through all my music then all thats leftover Ill enjoy through itunes.
Software :: Global Styles In NeoOffice?
Aug 27, 2010I'm editing a book in which the author switched programs and from PC to Mac in mid-stream, so the styling of the footnotes is not consistent. The text of the book is now in NeoOffice, and I've been asked to bring all the footnotes in accord with each other. I wondered whether there is a command that will change them so they all are in the same typeface and size. (I know that by setting up a Footnote style, all new footnotes will be correct, but I'm talking about ones that already exist). The author hasn't yet finished with the book, or I'd just get her to give me a chapter or two at a time and change them manually. Time is too short for us to wait till the end, when she has done all her revisions. I guess you get the picture. If there is no way to do this, please just tell me. If you know of one, though, I'd be grateful. Hoping that this is clear. It's gotten rather late! By the way, I'm working on a MacBook (not Pro) 13" with OS 10.5 and NeoOffice 3.1.1.

Dec 20, 2010I see there are a few apps such as cockpit and keyboard maestro that handle global hotkeys, however I would like to figure out a free solution. I have quicksilver but the mail plugin hardly cuts it for effectiveness and functionality. Basically I'd like to just have a hotkey (any available function keys after F12 for instance), that when I push it, it opens up a "New Mail" message for OSX Mail, without having to go to mail, hitting new, typing out message then hiding mail (it pops up along with new mail). I do a lot of programming and design and it would be great to do this as I send out like 50 emails a day.

They are setup to connect to an AD server using iHook.
I also have an xserver, but i'm not sure exactly what its configured to do, as i've only recently taken over from the previous network admin.
I can't work out how to set the global proxy settings that will affect all of my users. Is this a setting thats applied via the xserver, or is it something thats been manually configured locally?
How would i go about changing the global proxy settings, so that any user that logs in receives the same proxy settings?

Mar 23, 2009some of my Word documents are infected with a macro virus. I'm not sure how many are infected, although I know it's not all Word docs. I'm running Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher Edition. How can I fix this? I'd like to prevent other docs from also becoming infected. I have no anti-virus installed and I'm still running Tiger 10.4.11 (hoping Apple releases Snow Leopard soon so I can finally upgrade).

Dec 22, 2005In Excel 2004, I created a macro. I then deleted it using the Tools --> Macros... dialog box. I still get the message about enabling/disabling macros when I open the file. I have tried using the VBA Editor to delete it, but I don't see a "Module 1" (or anything else for that matter) that contains the macro.
I know I can turn off the macro warning in the preferences, but I'd rather figure out why I'm getting the message and get rid of it without turning off the macro warnings.

Jan 28, 2009I recently tried to watch videos at The Escapist and was unable to. This has been happening since about Friday last week. I also have found that I am unable to play some flash games. I also found that I can't watch videos at Veoh. I tried to adjust my preferences in the Flash Global Settings Manager to accept third party cookies so that I can do these things. It isn't working. The boxes won't check. Is anybody else having this problem? If so what did you do about it? This problem only occurs on my MacBook. I am still able to do these things on a Windows xp desktop I have in the same house.

Jun 27, 2012I have a OD domain that I've been adding systems too, and I've just about got it dialed in. Now I'd like to enable a global password policy, and I'm curious what actually happens when I flip the switch in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > Policies > Passwords? If I set a "reset every 90 days" option, is that from the time the policy is enabled, or from the time the user account was created? If I set a "must have one letter" or "numeric character", etc...and the user doesn't currently have a password that matches this criteria, will they be forced to set a new password immediately, or the next time one is initiated? Basically what I'm trying to figure out is how many support tickets I'm going to have, and (almost more importantly) when.
