OS X :: Hide Specific Shares In "Shared" Finder Section

Aug 14, 2010

I know how to disable the displaying of all Bonjour shares using Finder's preferences but how would I go about hiding specific ones independently? I have a bunch of Windows computers and a couple printers on my network that show up and fill up my side bar. I want the few Macs on my network to always be there but it's a nuisance having all the other ones.

OS X :: Downloaded 10.6.6. And Shared Section On Finder Disappeared?

Jan 6, 2011

I downloaded and installed the updates for the OS and now there is no "shared" section in the finder at all. Shared items are checked in the preferences. Selecting "go" and "network" doesn't do anything. I checked in the system preferences and the name of the workgroup is correct. The other computers in the workgroup can see my shared folders, but I can no longer see anything shared.

Software :: How To Get Rid Of Unknown Guest In Shared Section

Jun 28, 2010

I have an unsecured wireless network in my home. As guests come and go with laptops, they connect to the network. All OK. That is, I'm used to seeing transitory nodes on my network. Some time ago, a Bonjour computer appeared in the Shared section in the Sidebar of a Finder window. I have no idea what it is. When I click on it, it says XXXX YYYYYY's Computer, connected as: Guest. There is one folder there which, in turn, contains another folder named Drop Box. Now, I use DropBox on my system, to keep my 3 Macs in sync on a few items. What is this mystery guest? Why is it here? How can I get rid of it?

OS X :: Bunch Of Shared Drives Or Folders Showed In My Finder Under Shared?

Feb 19, 2010

A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

OS X :: Can Hide Specific Icons On The Desktop

Aug 27, 2010

I've got an external HD hooked up to my iMac and it has some software on there that brings up a CD icon on the desktop.

Is there a way to hide just that specific icon?

I know you can go to Finder and uncheck so that it doesn't show CD/DVD icons on the desktop...but that would mean anytime I pop in a CD it wouldn't show up and I don't want that, just want to hide the specific App icon.

OS X :: Finder Internal Network Connectivity With SMB Shares?

Mar 26, 2010

I've been having some very odd internal network connectivity issues the last few weeks.First, here's what I'm working with:-1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.2File server running Windows Server 2008 64bit-Two SMB shares I access from the file server for archive storage and backup purposes from the Mini-All networked together into a Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT v24-sp1

So here's the deal. I can start up the Mini from a fresh boot and access my SMB file shares with no problems at all. The file server is pingable, and I can RDP into it with Remote Desktop. But put the computer to sleep? One third of it breaks--the SMB shares become inaccessible until after a reboot, BUT I can still ping the file server AND I can still RDP into it without any issues. It's for this reason I think it's a Finder-specific issues. It seems to "forget" my SMB shares after putting the computer to sleep, then can't "find" them again.

FWIW, I thought it might be a name resolution issues, so I tried all this using the straight-up IP address but nothing changed. The SMB shares aren't accessible, but I can still ping and RDP into the file server without issue. It's getting very frustrating rebooting my Mac virtually every time I need to access my file archive. It's also makes a consistent backup plan difficult, if not impossible. Oh, and one more data point. I've got a work laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. When the Mac has issues accessing the SMB shares, I can access the file shares just fine (both by hostname and IP address) on the Windows 7 machine.I'm quite at a loss here. I'm contemplating a fresh install here, but not really confident it would make a difference.

OS X :: Shared Drive Showing Up In Finder?

Sep 8, 2009

New user here, I'm showing "your-w92*******" I blanked out the rest, with a little monitor icon under "SHARED" in my finder? Any clue as to what it is and how I can get rid of it? If I right click I only get Open or Get Info as options. If I click Open I get "Connection Failed". If I click on Get Info it displays "PC Server" under kind. I did try to get my MBP to print in my PCs HP printer (unsucessfully) using cups. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'd just like to delete it but don't know how.

OS X :: Finder - Shared Computer Drive Bewilderment

Jan 2, 2009

I am trying to find out how to change the way finder presents itself while it is looking at a shared computer, because it appears to be doing this incorrectly, or is messed up some how. If you look at the screen shot of the highlighted drives of this shared computer, you will notice there are multiple instances of drive J and I would like to remove the repeated link. Also some of the drives have names associated with them, while others do not. I cannot figure out why some take the name given to the drive under windows in the macs finder window and why some do not? To throw another odd question in, drive G is not labeled movies anywhere, but rather is a drive labeled TV Shows under windows. Rebooting does nothing, as this has been there for months, even after a restore.

OS X :: Macs Not Show Up In Finder Shared List

Aug 3, 2009

I just got an iMac. For the first few hours it was turned on, my MBP showed up in the iMac's Finder, and vice versa. However now, for the past two days, neither Mac has shown up in the others Finder. Connecting to afp://[their ip address] lets me see the public folders, but I still can't use the shared iTunes libraries, or share screens.

The same thing happened with the MBP and other Windows/Linux devices on the network, as well as my jailbroken iPod with Netatalk installed, but I just chalked that up to the klugey nature of mixed networking. Guess that wasn't the problem.

I don't believe anything has changed, as over the weekend all I did was connect to two wireless networks at my house.

I have no idea what's causing this, and it's making it difficult to retrieve files I need for certain projects.
