When I tried to update my 10.7.3 iMac using the BIG combo updater (MacOSXUpdCombo10.7.4 1.5GB) installer tells me I need 10.7 installed. This has never happened to me with a combo updater. I am going to try with the smaller (600Mb) delta updater.

I installed 10.7.3 (combo) from 10.7.2 yesterday on my Mac Mini and everything was smooth-ish, a bit of slowness here and there.
Today my Mac crashed completely, I couldn't Force Quit the app I was in, nothing. So I held down the power button and did a restart. After I did this, all I got was the grey apple with the spinning wheel for ages and ages, and then got a Kernel Panic screen.
I did what it said and restarted again. This time it just repeated and repeated the startup tone, and then going to kernel panic again.
I have tried everything I know of. P-RAM reset, Safe Boot, but nothing works.

Since installing lion (I started with 10.7.2) file manager is not working. Yes, I can force uit it and than it does but it is still very annoying and time consumin to do it 2-4 times a day. I was hoping that 10.7.3 will solv it.

Prior to updating, my system was working absolutely fine, and I could turn the Cintiq's power on/off at anytime without concern. Now, my system is consistently crashing when I turn the Cintiq's power off/on. I installed Google Picasa far Mac on a 10.5.6 leopard machine. Today, a window told me that I should update my version of Picasa, but Picasa was not running. The updater was well hidden. In fact, there is no google updater in my StartupItems. Furthermore, there is no goo* process among the running processes. The only upd* process is "update", whose function I ignore. Does anyone know which one is the Google Updater process? At Google they forgot to add "sudo" and User Authentication in the updater. The updater fails also when launched with Administrator privileges. That's funny, the mighty Google offering us such pearls of Mac programming.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a used macbook and the previous owner left a copy of Photoshop CS 4 on there for me (I don't know if that is kosher or not). But I'm planning on buying the entire Creative Suite by next year, but it is a perk for me to have access to Photoshop for the time being.
I'm paranoid about losing access to Photoshop though, so I never update it with the Adobe updater for fear of it asking me for the serial # or it sensing a different IP or whatever it could do. But last night I allowed it to update the updater. Everything works fine still. I just allowed it to update itself, the actual updater program.
So i have a few questions:
1. Can people legitimately sell a mac with third party software still on the machine, such as Adobe Photoshop in my case?
2. When I allowed Adobe Updater udate itself from 6 version 6 to 6.0.2, did it talk to Adobe at all with regards to Photoshop, or is that too far of a stretch?
3. If I allowed the Updater to update Photoshop, would it check the serial # or anything at that point, or was the initial installation all there is to liscensing?
I'm asking this out of curiosity and because if I am in flagrant violation, I'd rather not be using the program. I'm paranoid about this type of thing too.

The automatic Flip4Mac updater will install Microsoft's SIlverLight browser plugin automatically unless the user does a custom install. It was even going to install it on my 10.6.1 machine although the MS web site claims that SilverLight is tested through 10.5. I have contacted the Flip4Mac support people since I believe this is Malware behavior.
Most Mac users will be unaware of what SilverLight is and how it will effect their machine. Nor will most experts think to check for/remove it when troubleshooting. If you wish to make your concerns known, contact their desktop support group, and include "Support Case 1-74223" in the subject line.

I went into the Apple Software Updater, but it hangs about a third of the way through the process. I can 'cancel' the update, i.e. not beach ball, but it won't finish and display the list of items to update. I searched the forum and one suggestion was to delete the contents of the Library/Updates folder. This has not resolved the issue. How long can an update search take? I am waiting ~20 minutes, which is much longer than I have had to wait in the past.

But after the firmware update failed (updater got stuck), the drive now spins, light on, but the MBP won't see it, and neither will the firmware updater. If so, what was the solution? My SU was working fine until i noticed last night when I went to download iTunes 9.2, the downloading speed was real slow....like an hour or more on the timer. I tried multiple times then went to bed. internet connection is fine because today I've been downloading stuff on my other computer and just used software update to download iTunes on this machine that has both my Tiger partition and an SL partition, and it downloaded fine on that. However, I tried downloading some software app from apple directly form their website and the speed is fine. And now also, trying to download iTunes from the updater aborts about halfway saying it can't be verified or corrupted. I don't get it. what the heck could be wrong?

I removed Google Updater from my applications list, and removed the /Users/mbeason/Library/Application Support/Google directory. Unfortnately, I still see a "Google Updater Helper" process in the process list when running activity monitor. I've done some research on Google. They indicate that you should be able to uninstall Google Updater from within the tool itself. However, I did not find this to be the case. I re-installed Picasa Web Uploader to get Google Updater and it provided no option to un-install itself. How do I squash this program once and for all?

Only the Apple logo and a spinning Beachball which never disappears. I can start up in the Unix mode and also in the Windows mode. I have an Imac with Osx 10.4. I could reinstall the system but probably I will loose a lot of unique files and poto's. In the Unix mode I have removed the Installer file from the desktop but it didn't change the startup. I have little experience with Unix.

Right after I ran the 10.5.5 Combo update my computer went haywire. I'm getting random -50 errors left and right. All kinds of stablility problems are showing up. I can't make folders. I can't copy and paste. I tried to download something from safari and it said I didn't have enough disk space even though I have over 250GB free. Then when I try to restart I spun on the grey screen for hours. Tried to reinstall the OS from the disk and it failed. Lost a lot of files. I switched users and my external HDs unmounted and couldn't come back. It's gotta be the update right? I heard of about 4 other people who use their computers in completely different fashions who all had the same or close variations to these problems when they installed the new updates.
Anyone experiencing this or am I crazy?
