I am on iCloud but still not clear how to use it... but hoping it will allow me to mirror all my Mail Smart folders between the iMac and MacBook Air.

How do I sync the contents of say, the desktop and documents folders between my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro so the same files are always on both? I only want to do this over the local network because these folders are enormous and I need the syncing done fast.

I created several smart mailboxes and then created several smart mailbox folders. When I close mail and re-open, one smart mailbox folder remains and the others are gone, along with some but not all of my smart mailboxes.

But they do not dissapear from the inboxes of the other two.This is from the other mac showing mailbox structure and files emails which should not be there.

I have AOL for my e-mail and I synced my account to my new MBP, but it doesn't show my "Saved Mail" folder on my computer.
The only ones that are accessible are "Inbox", "Sent" and "Trash".
There are a lot of forums on this subject, but are specifically about Apple removing Keychain sync with iCloud. I cannot find any solution as to how to do it now they removed this option.
I have installed Keychain2Go but it just synced right away to "somewhere". I guess it's their servers. So I am concerned about that as I don't know this company.
So is Keychain2Go the only solution to sync Keychains now? I cannot find any other solution.

I just received my Macbook Pro 2 days ago, I updated everything that needed to be updated. Now, I got a Yahoo! Mail Plus just so I can sync it onto mail, although I found out you can't sync folders which sucks, but whatever. My problems is the following: If I read my emails on my iphone, or even a regular pc using firefox or something, when I go into mail on my mac, all those messages still show as unread. And messages that I have deleted are appearing again.

Read boards, tried help, tried everything. Gmail IMAP account will only synch inbox. ALL other folders do not appear in Mail 5.2 / Lion 10.7. In fact, MAIL doesn't even appear in the list of applications here. Am at a HUGE loss. I have checked Google settings. They are all set to show and show online just fine. I need this for work, so if this cannot be solved, I need to go back to a PC solution. Nothing should be this complicated.

i dont like keeping important files exclusively in the dropbox folder ... i rather keep them on my macbook pro's HD and so backed up to time machine.
this way, if dropbox were to suddenly become kaput one day, my important files are still with me, not lost forever just because they were exclusively in the cloud. ( i tested this ... i delete a file when in the dropbox web site, it removes it instantly from the dropbox foler on the laptop.)
however, i like keeping a current copy in the dropbox folder, so that i can access the current version on my iphone / ipad.
what i do now is copy the up-dated files every evening into the dropbox folder .... this way i meet both the objectives.
is there anyway i could keep the two folders in sync but only one way ... i change a file on my HD , it automatically changes in the dropbox folder too . however, if a file is changed in the dropbox folder ( read deleted on dropbox servers by some mishap) the original file on the laptop remains untouched.

I'm migrating the admin side of my life to my iMac. I am using Mac mail for my mai, this includes a Gmail IMAP account and a POP3 account for my meandering ISP. The IMAP one loads up fine with the IMAP folders there under a sub set of folders for the account.But the POP3 account won't let me create folders within it nor does it have a subset like the Geekwolf one you see below.What do I need to do to get it to have folders, I need to be able to sort incoming mail, but at the moment, I can't.My ISP does have an IMAP setting, but I don't want to have the mail sat about on a server.

I can't figure this out. I'm trying to use smart folders to search for images within a certain folder and the sub-folders it contains.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to limit the search locations. The only options it provides are to search "this mac" or "(username)".
I've tried to use 'location' (set to match the folder name), but this brings up zero results.
Some instructions found by googling said to first use spotlight to select the folder I'd like to confine the search to before making the smart folders, but this doesn't work either.
I have Lion 10.7.4 on 2010 MBP. I use the mail program on the Mac. I have 20 Smart Mailboxes set up and each is working fine. Yeterday I set 5 Smart Mailbox Folders and placed each Samrt Mailbox in the appropriate Smart Mailbox Folder. At the end of the day i turned the MBP off. This morning when I opened mail all my Smart Mailbox Folders were gone. My Smart Mailboxes are still there.

I just got a new mbp and well i have not had this problem yet because i only had one computer. Now i have 2 mbp's and i have mobile me and it does not sync the 'on my mac" folders that i have. is there a way to do this. as in i want the folders to be on both macs and to update through mobile me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a smart playlist on my iTunes 10.6 that populates the list with randomly selected tunes that do not contain specific genres nor were played in the last 90 days to fill 3 hours. The songs that populate the list seem to meet those criteria. However, the songs that populate the list on my iPhone look nothing like the list on iTunes and includes songs I listened to yesterday even though I synced last night and this morning.

I wish to have the folder show all documents bigger than a certain size (ie. video) appear in the folder. My next question, is can I then drag to the Trash from that folder and know that they're deleted from their original location. I assume appearing in a smart folder is like an alias, its not reall copied to this new location.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've made a Smart Folder to have one place to look for any bills I've paid in the last 40 days, with the following parameters:
- Search within a folder within my Home folder called "Accounts & Services"
- Name begins with "PD 2" (all my paid bills are labeled like "PD 2012-02-01 AT&T," for example)
- Last modified date is within last 40 days
The folder worked when I created it, and whenever I opened it for a day or so afterwards.
But a month later when I open the Smart Folder, the latest bills aren't there.
When I "Show Search Criteria," I see the "Search within" has been changed to a circular reference — it SEARCHES WITHIN THE SMART FOLDER ITSELF!
The practical upshot of which is that it finds only the files that were found at the time the Smart Folder was created, and does not find anything newer because it's looking in the wrong place.
I'm hoping someone has a remedy for this, but I don't have high hopes considering the "Mac Quick Tips" podcasts from 2009 in which Smart Folders are demonstrated show this problem in the demo without realizing it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new PC running Windows 7 RC, but I can't get it to find the shared folders on my Macs, nor can my Macs see the shared folders on the PC. Any ideas how to get at least one way working (preferably so that the Macs can see the PC).I'm running 10.5.7, and if I "Connect to Server" and dial in smb:// and the PCs IP address, I get a login window, but it won't let me log in. I have no password on the PC.
Also, I followed the advice in another post here, http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=635271), but it didn't make any difference.
We have been syncing our iphones on our imac and now we have a macbook pro too. I did migration and transferred everything over to synch(at least I thought-same music, apps, etc) The record of back ups even show up on the mbp itunes. So when I went to sync the iphone it wants to remove all the folders I have set up. How can I sync my iphone on the new mbp without messing up all my work or organizing my apps. Is there a file I can transfer from the imac to the mbp?

I know mobile me would sync my ical, address book etc, but im not looking to spend 100 dollars per year to keep my machines synced.
I have an iMac at home and a MacBook Pro for school and I'd like to sync them together. More specifically, I'm looking into syncing my iCal database as well as my Address Book database. I do not wish to pay for MobileMe, as I find it too expensive and don't have so much money to waste at this moment of the year, but I tried it and it worked like a charm. It's just overpriced though, especially for a particular (maybe for an enterprise they will use every buck out of this service, but not me). I was wondering if there was a nice application for that... or an Automator script, of if I should try and figure out how to code my own Automator script?
