Windows On Mac :: Install Windows 7 And Can't Get The Boot Camp Assistant To Partition My Drive?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 and can't get the boot camp assistant to partition my drive. The drive in question is 500GB with over 200GB free space. I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I just purchased a new iMac (2.66 c2d & 4gb of ram), Parallels 4, and Windows XP. I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.
Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition? Which is better and why? Also, how much memory should I allocate to Parallels/Windows XP?

I just got my Mac back from the shop after getting a new hard drive installed (the old one was hosed) and I'd like to get Boot Camp set up again but I'm having problems. I have a 2006 iMac CoreDuo running OS X 10.5.6.
When I tried to use Boot Camp Assistant the other day I got the following error message: "Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used. You must update your computer's system software."
Here's what I have checked already:
- My system software is current.
- My version of boot camp assistant is current.
- My firmware is current.
- Journaling is enabled on the drive.

I'm building a custom computer that I would like to run both OSX and Windows 7 on. At the moment I am trying to decide between installing 1 2TB hard drive or 2 1TB hard drives. I would preferably do the latter since I would like each OS to be on its own drive. OSX will be my primary OS. If I go for the 2 drive option they will be 2 seperate drives, not in a RAID config. Getting OSX onto the machine is simple enough for me if not a little roundabout. My main concern is Windows 7. Will bootcamp allow me to install Windows to it's own dedicated drive without having to partition the OSX drive? In my case would I even need to use bootcamp? Would holding down the "alt" key as done with bootcamp detect a second bootable disk even if Windows was not installed through bootcamp?

I have a 15Gb boot camp partition on my 80Gb macbook hard drive (its the 2006 intel one and I haven't upgraded it because I keep everything on an external HD). I need to move everything over to my macbook pro which has a 250Gb HD.
I was wondering if Migration assistant will move everything (including XP) onto the new macbook pro (and if so, what size will the partition be) or if it will just leave the XP bit untouched as it isn't part of the mac?
I only use the XP bit for playing some older games that I absolutely love (Rome Total War, The Sims 2) and in case of any incompatibility problems, so if need be I can just create a new XP partition on the new Pro. However I would like to keep my saved games, so is there a way of migrating the windows partition as well?

"Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant"."
That's the dreaded message I get every time I try to use boot camp 1.2. Unfortunately my firmware is already updated, and any attempt at updating my firmware (again) results in the message that I "don't have to update my firmware."
I've google'd this problem numerous times, but I have yet to find a solution.

When attempting to partition my hard drive with boot camp assistant, it appears that for any size under 110 GB for my Windows partition, I am unable to set the size to anything that is a multiple of 10 (20, 30, 40, 50 GB, etc.).

I installed Windows 7 to my macbook pro simply using the boot camp assistant, then again simply I deleted the windows partition. I cannot access to windows but every time I open my mac, it tries to open windows and a black screen comes, saying that I need to insert a disc or something like that.

I just bought windows xp and i am just trying to install through boot camp. I downloaded Boot Camp Beta 1.4 installation and set-up guide. On step 1 it ask to "open boot camp assistant (located in Applications/Utilities/) and follow the on-screen instructions." I can't find Boot camp Assistant in the utilities folder. I am using a white macbook with mac os x 10.4.11.

I launched the Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 on my iMac OS X v10.5. I was hoping to install Windows XP Professional with Built-in Service Pack 3. However, when I tried to partition the disk (32 GB on Windows), a message came up, saying "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It states some directions underneath, but, as I am new to Boot Camp and Mac, I don't know what to do and how to do. Please help!

Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

I have been trying to install Windows 7 X86 RC1 on my brand new early 2009 iMac and have been having the same problem every time.
Initial installation goes very smoothly, but all the trouble begins when I load the Boot Camp setup.exe from the Leopard disc.
During Boot Camp installation I get a compatibility warning about some of the Apple Boot Camp drivers working correctly with this version of Windows.
If I go ahead with the installation then what happens is I get a BSOD and then Windows becomes un-bootable. This is repeatable as it happens every single time I do the installation.
Things initially seem to work up until I load boot camp assistant from the Leopard install disc, so I'm wondering if there are other drivers available that play well with Windows 7 for my iMac that I can try? I've followed several Boot Camp tutorials for iMac with Win7 and am pretty sure I am doing everything correctly, but things just aren't working.

I have an '08 Octo 2.8.
I created a Boot Camp Partition (an entire drive, actually) and installed XP. The install went off without a hitch ... Except, having rebooted to Mac OS X (10.6.1) there is no way to boot Windows again. Going to Preferences->Boot Disk shows no Book Camp bootable drive.

I'm asking as a new Apple convert using Snow Leopard 10.06.2.
I have an iMac running Snow Lep and a laptop running Windows 7. The laptop did not come with a separate disc of the Windows OS. In the absence of the OS disc, is there any way to install Windows in it's own partition using Boot Camp, such as by copying an image of the laptop onto the iMac?

First I read "http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf".
That's all well and good, but nowhere in this document is that "USB storage device trick"
(see "http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995") mentioned! On the other hand, in that DL995 description there's nowhere mentioned that there are additional steps to do afterwards!
first I prepared my USB storage device according to DL995, made a 201GB partition, inserted the 64 bit Windows 7 DVD and ran the installation without any problems.
Windows works, but brightness and volume controls for example don't work.(When I press F1 I get Windows help etc.)I can't find Boot Camp installed under Windows anywhere!
After the same installation on my second 21.5" iMac everything looks identical with the exception that under "Bluetooth Devices" on one machine there's "Apple Wireless Keyboard" and "Apple Wireless Mouse" installed - on the other machine NOT, even tough I've NEVER used Bluetooth devices any of both machines (just used wired Apple keyboard and USB Trackball).
Before I continue (OS X disc, 3.1 update... if required at all?), how can I verify that the USB storage device had been used at all?

I plan to copy my entire Windows partition from my Mac, delete old partition, make a new Windows partition (~500GB), copy it over onto that partition, and go!Do I have that right? All I need to know is what I should use to do the copying? Or cloning I should say.

About a month ago I partitioned my HDD, installed XP and then found no need for it and then erased the partition using boot camp.
I decided to install XP again, so I opened Boot Camp, and partitioned the HDD 69GB for MAC and 70GB for Windows. I clicked partition and then it was partitioning and then I got a message saying to restart my MAC. I held the button down restarted the mac, and then went to boot camp again to join up the partitions, but there is no option for that, I can only partition the HDD again. The thing is that the partition is created I had like 140 free and now I have 60...which means the 70GB is partitioned but nothing is on it.

I've been trying to run boot camp on my black Macbok and have been halted with a Boot camp error message: "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It then tells me to back up my disk and boot up from my Leopard DVD, and restore to a "journaled" volume. Now, I've checked, and my HDD is already journaled. I've run "verify disk" and everything seems to be working okay. I've read that sometimes having things related to Parallels on the computer can create this error, and so I've deleted all things Parallells and am still getting the same error. I do, however, have Fusion (though I've deleted that Windows partition.)
I'm hesitant to follow the directions further, for I have nothing to back my disk up to and my Leopard DVD has gone MIA.
Can anybody give me a hand?

After letting Windows 7 install (with empty, unpartitioned space) it created a 100MB recovery partition (WinRE) which seemed okay. But I can't mount the NTFS partition in OS X now. It fails to recognize it. It sees the unrecognizable WinRE partition and seems to not look any further (that's my guess, at least).
Picture attached from Disk Utility of the space that SHOULD contain TWO separate partitions. One for WinRE, the other an NTFS partition for Windows 7.

I used Boot Camp to setup a partition for installing Windows. I no longer need the partition nor Windows. How can I delete that partition and make it useful for my laptop?
I'd like to have it as just one big hard drive rather than it showing up as 2 separate hard drives. I believe it's called extend the hard drive if I'm correct.

I used Boot Camp to install Win 7 x64 on a partition, and I got the OS and the drivers to work just fine. (I also have it installed on a Parallels Virutal machine, but I needed the dedicated partition for work.)
My only problem is that when I boot into Win 7, I get a screen that has a cursor flashing for about 2 and a half minutes. After that time, the Windows logo appears and it boots just fine. Is this common, or am I missing something here? It behooves me that it takes around 3 to 3 and a half minutes for Win 7 to boot up after hitting the power button.

I need to use some software for my course at university and typically it's windows only so I created a boot camp partition and after what's weeks and weeks of trouble getting it to work properly, which I decided was down to Windows 7 I deleted the partition and now I want to create another for XP but I get the error:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"
I've been searching Google for a while and had a suggestion that I defrag my HD so I have done but it hasn't helped. I really don't want to wipe my Hard Drive to get this to work.
