View 8 RepliesI have an old iMac Rev A (or B?) and it is constantly freezing. It freezes in OS 8, 9, and 10.3.. but most frustrating is that it also freezes while trying to install an OS. So right now it does not have an OS installed because of that. It will not boot up to my OS 9.1 disc.. but it will boot up to it's original 8.5 disc and a 10.3 disc.. However it always freezes near the beginning of the install process (often before it even writes to the HDD). I tried taking out the old RAM and leaving it with just the one (new) 256MB chip and that didn't work.
It was freezing before with only the old RAM so. I guess it's not the RAM. I have an identical iMac that doesn't choke on anything (never freezes) and it only has 96MB of RAM. I don't know what else I can do. I'm trying to use XPostFacto to put 10.4 on this thing (it's possible, I want to try it out at least) but it won't get through the first OS install and if it does, it won't get through the second (10.4). Even more frustrating is that I don't have any diagnostic software such as the Apple Hardware Test because the original iMac didn't come with any.
This afternoon I have been repeatedly trying to install a copy of Windows XP on Parallels 5 onto my Macbook. Parallels is unlocked, registered and is not a demo version, and neither is XP. The installation setup gets past the first part (on the blue and black screens) and to the second part (which actually looks like the XP interface). It always says "Setup will complete in approximately: 39 minutes" and it always freezes at "Setup will complete is approximately: 36 minutes".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Power Mac G5 1.6 which was running Tiger when I got it. It was fine apart from the odd complete freeze - perhaps once a week. I'd fixed permissions, checked drives and all the rest of it but no dice. Still, nice machine and I figured I could live with it. I upgraded to Leopard last weekend, however, and it's still doing it despite being a completely clean install. So I'm now worrying that there's a big MB problem in the post - anyone have any ideas as to what else it might be that I could check?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista Ultimate installed on my MacBook. For some reason, everything keeps freezing and the mouse pointer remain unresponsive for a few seconds. This happens again and again while I am using Windows and it's very annoying. Sometimes I have to press to power button for 5 seconds to restart the computer otherwise it remains completely blocked.

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the Win 7 RTM currently installed on my Mac Pro, on a dedicated internal hard drive. I'm running VMware 2.0. I have the retail version of Win 7 arriving today. Anyone know if I can just install through Windows, i.e., while running my existing Win 7 installation via VMware, or do I have to go through the whole clean install via Bootcamp routine?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Win7 RC installed on my Gen2 Macbook Air, it's installed natively, with no Mac OS on it at all. I do have bootcamp installed. It runs perfectly. But I'd like to try out the newest Mac OS and would like to dual boot. Is there any way to install Snow Leopard but not lose my Windows install? I've got too much in it to have to redo windows.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows with no problem. Now I need to install the drivers, aka the mac disc. There are 2 mac discs I had in my Macbook Pro package. I put in my first one. It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. What is wrong with this. I am certain that the package wasn't fake, since I have the Macbook Pro here, but why doesn't the install CDs work?

I have a unibody Macbook from 2009 running Leopard and I really want to partition my hard drive and install XP (or 7), but I only have access to the 64-bit versions.
I've heard that Macbooks can only run 32-bit, but not 64- is this true?
I recent purchased a Macbook air mid-2011 and I want to install a copy of Windows 7 by Boot Camp. But I did not know why I cannot reboot the Windows after the distribution completed (I had a Sumsung mobile DVD-ROM which works well when I use it to install apps). With my old Macbook 2010, of course, which had a DVD-ROM inside, it will automatically reboot into Windows installation . According to the Boot Camp, the 1st step is to make a ISO-image of Windows 7.

Ok I have converted to Mac. Like many other converts I find I need to keep my windows machine because of a few programs. In my case Money Soft- Money manager and Family tree maker.I have read about the different ways of using the Mac as a windows machine but still have little idea as to the best way to go.

Ok, Here is the scoop. I am trying to get Wifi to work on my macbook while on XP. When I put in the disk and it says "The package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Would you like to update?" I say yes and it says "The requires resoruce update is missing." and if I click no it says "The operation is aborted." or something.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 and can't get the boot camp assistant to partition my drive. The drive in question is 500GB with over 200GB free space. I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

so i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to clean install windows 7 after formatting disk. This doesn't sound like a great idea, but I need this for couple of engineering softwares to work. I don't want to spend my nights in computer cluster or at friends pc...
I have heard, I will encounter following issues:
- battery will drain faster
- graphics driver for x64-bit version
- camera
- iPhone backups and syncs (music, video, cal, contacts and apps)
- I would need a external mouse for right click.
I can live with all of the above problems except graphics card drivers. Can anyone provide feedback or useful links they have refered to installing Windows 7?
I have just installed Windows 7 via bootcamp and everything went smoothly, the only problem is that i have lost my DVD of snow leopard and want to install the 3.2 drivers on windows 7, however it is to my understanding that i need to install 3.0 from the DVD first. Is there any way around this without ordering another copy of snow leopard? ?25 might not seem a lot but on a student budget i would rather not shell out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have parallels 4 installed and I want to install windows XP. My school gives us legal copies of windows 98 and a windows xp upgrade. However, neither of these comes in the form of a CD image. They are both .exe files. Parellels asks for a CD or CD image. Is there a way to install windows 98 from an .exe in parallels?
And if so will I be able to use the windows xp upgrade once i have windows 98 installed? I haven't yet tried creating a CD image with the exe file on it. I don't know if this would work because it's all in one file and not a typical windows install disk.
Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.
Here's the setup:
Currently my MBP17 (alu) has two HD's installed but they're not RAIDed, the other unit is simply there are added storage. For many years I've never had the need to install Windows until now and since there's no internal optical drive I've been installing everything from the external Lacie Blu-Ray drive and it's been fine; up until now - but maybe it's because I've not tried it before?
Problem:
Anyway... Does anyone know would it be possible to install Windows from a external optical drive connected via Firewire? Because whenever I try, all I get a flashing icons (the usual grey apple logo then a no access mark followed by a folder with a question mark in a folder).
What I do:
1. Start bootcamp, select Install Windows.
2. System restarts
3. Press and hold option key on boot up.
4. then select the Windows DVD
After, the system shows flashing icons.
a. grey apple logo
b. circle with a line through it
c. grey folder with a question mark.
d. (repeat from a)

View 12 Replies View RelatedThis is the setup: I have a MBA (13", 4G, 250GB) runing with Lion (upgraded from snow leopard). I need to install windows XP in VB (yes, it must be XP). I have already installed it in my iMac and had no problem at all. While doing it on my iMac I only had to select my cd/DVD unit to run the installation CD and it all worked fine. As we all know the MBA has no cd unit (and no, I have no Superdrive) so I can't use the same path. I've tried accessing it through the remote disk, but once I get into the pop up window, I can only search for .iso, .cdr or .dmg files. The next step I have taken is to create an image of the original CD. I have done it by: going to Disk utility, "new", chosen the CD, create a DVD/cd master... that created a .cdr document. Then through the Terminal I did convert this .cdr into a .iso using hdiutil. Finally I have run VB and... it keeps on telling me <<Fatal: No bootable medium found! System halted.>>
