i need to install windows operating system on my apple as the programs i require for work only work on windows and i was wondering should i get windows 7 or wait until windows 8 comes out not sure whats the best thing to do other options was to buy a cheaper laptop but i wont really use the mac then if i do

I was wondering about this the other day. XP kinda sucks but Vista seems even worse. Would Microsoft consider scrapping Win32 code and just jump on Unix or something like Apple did? And just why did Apple do what it did? What made them switch between proprietary OS code (up through 'X' was it?) and jump to Unix?

But when I run the install discs, after I choose english as the language, it says "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer". I am using the install discs that my macbook came with. I just installed Windows XP (SP2) on a brand new 27 inch iMac (OS-X 10.6.2) with bootcamp and also installed the bootcamp drivers from the included Mac OS-X installation disc (resulting in bootcamp 3.0 installed). Everything works fine, but... there's is NO SOUND under Windows. When I look in device manager all seems fine but again, I have no sound under Windows.

So i immediatly asked my dad computer genius friend to change the operating system to windows xp. This means that when i turn the computer on there is NOT an option to go on either mac or windows it is JUST windows.

This connects at startup and the hard drive icon is on my desktop logged in as admin. my system preferences froze on me a couple weeks ago while i was trying to change my screen saver. i've forced quit the program and computer, but when i boot back up, and reopen system preferences it opens up where it froze in the backgrounds settings. yesterday i shot down to see my buddy at future shop and he tried a few things and nothing changed. he called apple and they said this issue has come up a few times now. they recomended to delete a few uneeded files in the program or reinstalling the operating system. we deleted the files and nothing happened. so he told me how to reinstall the OS. i said goodbye because he left for cuba today. now i have time to do the reinstall and dont remember how he said to do this.
