Feb 10, 2012When I put Lion on my iMac, browser windows for Safari become very large and Google Chrome windows are immense.
This didn't happen on my MacBook Pro. I've looked in all kinds of preferences and I can't seem to find a way to trim down browser window size.

Aug 18, 2009I am using OS X 10.5.7 on macbook pro 3.1. When I zoom my screen (by holding ctrl and scroll). I get a close look of a certain area. which is what I want. However, if I move my finger on touchpad, both cursor and desktop move. I would like the desktop stay unmoved, always show the particular region, only the cursor move. How can I do that?

Feb 22, 2009Love my MBA but couldn't resist the temptation to pick up an HP 10" netbook since the Amazon price was pretty cheap ($399). It's a nice little machine which I can throw in my briefcase. However, do a little bit of work on this ten incher and then open up the MBA, and suddenly my 13" MBA looks looks huge! Each machine clearly has it's role. The netbook is fine for my daily train trip to work and to shlep around. It would not accompany me on a trip or for times requiring a lot of work and certainly does not sit in the same universe of power as the MBA, but as Randy Jackson would say, "It's a'right". I think the MBA has won my heart.

Feb 28, 2010I'm still a mac newbie. I have a late 2009 MBP and when I press my f12 key usually a thingy zoomed in over my screen that had like a calculator, world clock, weather, and something else. I liked this thingy. It worked this morning while I used it to help do some basic math (I'm not a math person). But a few minutes ago when I hit my f12 key it didn't pop up! Instead there was a little dashboard thingy at the bottom of my screen that slid in and said "widgets" and reminded me exactly of the annoying widget dashboard on my old PC. I don't know how or why it has changed. How do I get the cool "zoom in over my screen thingy" back?

When browsing the internet and zoom on photos the screen goes black. This does not happen on my 13" Retina display i5 processor 256GB SSD 8GB RAM, so I do not believe the problem to be my Thunderbolt display.Â
I have fully updated my software, to ensure I am not missing any essential hot fixes. The Mac was rebuilt on Thursday, so not running any 3rd party software except Microsoft Office.Â

MacBook Pro :: Desktop Seems To Be Larger Than 13" Screen Will Allow?
Jun 3, 2012I noticed today that some icons that used to be on my desktop have disappeared. Eventually I realized that they were still there but they were not shown on the display screen, they are somewhere off to the sides and above. In fact, in order to click on icons that do appear on my desktop I need to click below them, nowhere near the icon itself.

Sep 3, 2009So I was in the Apple Store again yesterday and whilst looking around the different versions of the notebooks it suddenly struck me that, with all things considered, the 13" Macbook Pro isn't really a 'Pro'. It doesn't look or feel very Pro-like especially when you consider the lower spec, tiny screen size, and larger bezel. It really strikes home when you see all the 13", 15", and 17" laid out side-by-side on display. I really think by upgrading the 13" name to 'Macbook Pro' Apple are doing a grave injustice to all the customers who could afford and purchased the real Pros'.

Feb 9, 2010I very much wish to upgrade to a larger screen. I presently have the Apple 24" display. I am a professor and often need to use 2 or more documents to complete a piece of work, e.g. an exam or grant application.When I see the 30" display, it seems sooooo big, I back off, for I fear it will be overwhelming to use.I imagine a 27" display would be fine, although I much prefer the matte finish. I assume Apple will sometime soon offer a 27".

Dec 14, 2009I'm traveling at the moment with my MBP 17". Arrived at my friends place who has a base iMac 21.5". Since I prefer to use the slightly larger screen to work off (even though my 17 MBP has more pixel density). So startup the iMac via TDM on my 17 MBP and to my surprise it works! - as my MBP only has leopard 10.5.8. I would have thought these iMacs would not run unless you have SL 10.6 loaded. It worked the 1st time, but crashed (grey vertical shade of death) twice after. On the 4th time it worked again. So that was weird (the inconsistency). Maybe 10.5.8 is NOT meant to be compatible with the new iMac's?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Zoom In Shortcut On Czech Keyboard
Mar 21, 2012I'm using Mac Mini with a Logitech keyboard with a built-in trackpad as HTPC. Therefore, I need a keyboard shortcut for zooming in and out in a browser (any browser). No pinch to zoom on Logitech. Ok, regularly, there is cmd plus / cmd minus to do this. On the english keyboard layout, these keys are next to each other and next to backspace. And it works. However, I am from the Czech republic and therefore using Czech layout. In it, minus is mapped as the first key left to the right shift. And it works for zoom out. BUT, the plus sign is mapped on the numeral 1 and hitting the cmd button alone changes it from plus to the number 1! So there is no way for me to hit the combination of keys cmd and plus.

May 26, 2012I am trying to find a good quality webcam to use for videoconferencing with my Mac (MacBook Air actually). The camera is to be positioned on the 60-inch screen on the wall in our boardroom so the built-in Facetime camera doesn't do the job. It needs to have tilt/pan/zoom (in software). When I started on this search I had no idea such a thing was going to be so hard to find. There is no shortage of such products for Windows but I can't find a single one for the Mac.
There are a lot of webcams that claim to support Mac but on closer investigation not a single one of them (that I've found so far anyhow) provides any control features like tilt / pan / zoom - nor even brightness and contrast control for that matter. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places because it's hard to believe the Mac world really is lacking such products.
