OS X V10.7 Lion :: Best Webcam For Mac With Tilt / Pan And Zoom Feature?
May 26, 2012
I am trying to find a good quality webcam to use for videoconferencing with my Mac (MacBook Air actually). The camera is to be positioned on the 60-inch screen on the wall in our boardroom so the built-in Facetime camera doesn't do the job. It needs to have tilt/pan/zoom (in software). When I started on this search I had no idea such a thing was going to be so hard to find. There is no shortage of such products for Windows but I can't find a single one for the Mac.
There are a lot of webcams that claim to support Mac but on closer investigation not a single one of them (that I've found so far anyhow) provides any control features like tilt / pan / zoom - nor even brightness and contrast control for that matter. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places because it's hard to believe the Mac world really is lacking such products.

I've got a macbook pro, and although the built-in isight provides a nice quality picture, I hate the fact that it has no features and is completely fixed. Therefore, I'm looking for a new stand-alone webcam compatible with mac. I'd like to also have a zoom feature. I'm not incredibly anal about vid quality, so it that doesn't absolutely have to be top-notch. I'm willing to sacrifice a tad bit of vid quality to have zoom. Is it possible for me to find something like this in the $50 price range? (give or take $10 or so).

Does anyone know of a Mac compatible webcam that also works well in Windows (Boot Camp), that has an adjustable zoom angle through a manual zoom ring on the lens, or included software?
I had recently purchased, then returned, a Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro for my Mac Pro. I returned it because the picture in iChat was almost pitch black (but was fine in Photo Booth), but more importantly, the zoom angle was way too wide.

I run safari and am browsing then notice the screen at that moment slides a little to the right with a replica behind it then slides back like a flicker. I can't reproduce it. Also my screen will suddenly enlarge (in any application) yet the zoom feature is off in system prefs - universal access - seeing - zoom.

So Ive got the new aluminum MBP and got an incase shell for it. For the first few months I would open my screen and at about 90 degrees it would feel like it was about at the stopping point so I left it there, like the older ones.
I recently let a friend use it and not being familiar with the product he forced it a bit further before I could leap across the room and stop him, I heard a bit of a creak and it ended up going all the way back, as far as it would without a case. Everything seems to be in place but it really did sound like something broke, and I couldnt do this before without force. Is this normal?

I'm using Mac Mini with a Logitech keyboard with a built-in trackpad as HTPC. Therefore, I need a keyboard shortcut for zooming in and out in a browser (any browser). No pinch to zoom on Logitech. Ok, regularly, there is cmd plus / cmd minus to do this. On the english keyboard layout, these keys are next to each other and next to backspace. And it works. However, I am from the Czech republic and therefore using Czech layout. In it, minus is mapped as the first key left to the right shift. And it works for zoom out. BUT, the plus sign is mapped on the numeral 1 and hitting the cmd button alone changes it from plus to the number 1! So there is no way for me to hit the combination of keys cmd and plus.

With Snow Leopard and my MBP I was able to use the pinch to zoom on the trackpad to zoom in or out on my desktop icons. It doesn't seem to work anymore in Lion. Is there a way to enable it?Â

Occasionally, my Mac Pro's (8-core early 2008) fans will go to full speed after a shut down. I did the procedure of unplugging everything and letting it sit for 15 mins, and that seemed to work for a day or 2...but last night the problem was back. The only solution is to hold down the power switch for 10 seconds. I just reset PRAM -- we'll see if that has any effect.

In a Finder window, if I'm looking for photos (for example) and I click on the thumbnail view, I cannot enlarge the thumbnails like I used to with the pinch gesture. Has this been disabled in Lion 10.7? Is there a way to allow it again? The 'Pinch to Zoom' gesture has been allowed in System preferences and it works with every application, just not in a Finder window.

I just "upgraded" to Lion and have noticed some annoying quirks. I can no longer zoom in Movies on DVD Player and am stuck watching movies in widescreen. Is there any way to reinstall an older version of DVD Player? Are there any alternate programs to watch DVD's (not converted, full versions) which allow zoom?

If I tilt my iBook a certain way or that, sometimes it'll try to eject a CD, even if there's not one in the drive. This has me sort of concerned, has anyone else's done that?

I have a Logitech webcam that I want to share between a Mac mini with lion and a windows 7 desktop. I used to be able to share using a Belkin peripheral switch. But I can't use it in lion because it runs on PowerPC. Any ideas for a replacement for it so I don't have to take out the USB cord on the camera every time I want to switch computers?

I can't seem to find the incredibly valuable "bounce email" feature in Mail any more. Its is such a great tool for stopping spam. It used to be available as an icon you could pull onto the toolbar, but its not there anymore. Is it gone or just moved someplace else.If its gone, Apple, please bring it back.
