OS X :: Get Cool Zoom In Over Screen Thingy Back?

I'm still a mac newbie. I have a late 2009 MBP and when I press my f12 key usually a thingy zoomed in over my screen that had like a calculator, world clock, weather, and something else. I liked this thingy. It worked this morning while I used it to help do some basic math (I'm not a math person). But a few minutes ago when I hit my f12 key it didn't pop up! Instead there was a little dashboard thingy at the bottom of my screen that slid in and said "widgets" and reminded me exactly of the annoying widget dashboard on my old PC. I don't know how or why it has changed. How do I get the cool "zoom in over my screen thingy" back?

I just noticed that sometime today the rocket thing (forgotten what it's called) on the dock has disappeared so now I can't access things like the dvd player, etc.
How do I find it and get it back on the dock?

Is there any way to program a regular USB non-magic mouse to do the following:
1. Use the side button to go back to the previous screen.
2. Use the scroll wheel and a keyboard key to zoom the text of a page-- like the Command+ combination, not zoom like Control+scroll.

i can not zoom in and zoom out in the finder's windows with the folders as in snow leopard i was able to make the folders bigger with the zoom pinch in and out but i was unable to do with it in mac lion

I am using OS X 10.5.7 on macbook pro 3.1. When I zoom my screen (by holding ctrl and scroll). I get a close look of a certain area. which is what I want. However, if I move my finger on touchpad, both cursor and desktop move. I would like the desktop stay unmoved, always show the particular region, only the cursor move. How can I do that?

I want to make training videos. I still can zoom in while doing screen recording with Quicktime in my MacBookPro Lion. But when I played back, there's no zoom in in the movies.Â
I've tried to set the things in Universal Access-seeing-options- and tick 'use scrool keys modifier....' but still didn't work. Restarted the mbp, still didn't work.Â

Running 13" mid 2012 Macbook Air i7 processor 256GB SSD 4GB RAMÂ
Connected to a 27" Thunderbolt DisplayÂ
When browsing the internet and zoom on photos the screen goes black. This does not happen on my 13" Retina display i5 processor 256GB SSD 8GB RAM, so I do not believe the problem to be my Thunderbolt display.Â
I have fully updated my software, to ensure I am not missing any essential hot fixes. The Mac was rebuilt on Thursday, so not running any 3rd party software except Microsoft Office.Â

I run safari and am browsing then notice the screen at that moment slides a little to the right with a replica behind it then slides back like a flicker. I can't reproduce it. Also my screen will suddenly enlarge (in any application) yet the zoom feature is off in system prefs - universal access - seeing - zoom.

I've seen plenty of ways to magnify the area around your mouse. Is there a way to magnify a specific area of the screen, leaving your mouse free to do whatever it wants? I.e. something like a box that just sits on my screen instead of following my cursor around.Â

That's my question: What's Up With the 'Smaller Footprint' thingy?! why does it free up space? it might sound dumb but well i had to know but i noticed an awkward thing just now, yesterday i was checking SL's features and where it says 'Smaller footprint' it said: Quote: Snow Leopard takes up less than half the disk space of the previous version, freeing about 6GB for you — enough for about 1,500 more songs or a few thousand more photos. and today i happened to cross by that page again, and i saw this: Quote: Snow Leopard takes up less than half the disk space of the previous version, freeing about 7GB for you — enough for about 1,750 more songs or a few thousand more photos. So I downloaded Windows 7, and Im kinda confused on how to make the boot disk. I have tried to use Disk Utility by selecting the ISO and clicking burn, but there is always an error. Do I burn the disk image itself, or the folder that comes from it?

sorry I don't know how to be anymore specific in a thread title. Next to my unibody Macbook Pro June 09's disc insert thing on the right hand side of the MBP, there looks like a little port or something? It's to the left of the disc tray which is on the right hand side of the MBP. I could have sworn that port wasn't a port, but now I think the cover fell off or something? Or was there never a cover on it?

Ever since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved

I was working on my computer and needed to reboot. When my Safari came back up the arrangement on the screen was completely different. The overall layout was different and I lost a few of my bookmarks in the process. Is there anyway to get it back to my old screen layout?

Up until yesterday, I had 8gb of RAM in my iMac; two 2gb sticks stock from Apple, and two 2gb cards that I added. With this current configuration, I would have an average temperature of 54 degrees, and never was really higher than 65 degrees. Last night, I removed all four sticks, and I went with four 4gb sticks. Ive noticed now with the 16gb of RAM, my temperature has been from 34-36 degrees. The iMac is faster on wake up as well. I never read anywhere that RAM cools a system down. Is that the case here? I noticed that I had the two stock Apple sticks on one side, and the two new ones on the other side prior to me upgrading to 16gb. Would that be an issue as well?

Mine can get hot sometimes and then fans will kick in. Only way to get them to stop is to shut off the Mac for a while. Any other solutions you can do without turning off the Mac?

I am a big-time gamer and I recently bought a MacBook where I am doing most of my gaming. I play World of Warcraft on my machine pretty much every day. This was causing my MacBook to get incredibly HOT and also caused the fan to spin like crazy. I looked around a bit and decided to buy the Zefyr from Moshi since I already had their MacBook case, the Codex, and have been really happy with it. I have to say I am really impressed with the Zefyr MacBook cooler. My fan doesn't spin any longer when I'm gaming and you can honestly feel the difference in temperature. Any other hard-core gamers or video / photo editors out there might want to take a look at this!

so ive been hearing around the tubes that the macbook pro i7 and i5 have been over heating...
has the issue been fixed? if not does it overheat less on thev i5 then the i7? or are they about the same?
im thinking of getting a mbp 15" i7 as an alt comp to accompany me when i cant use my quad core pc. so ill mainly use the laptop on my lap and such and i dont want it over heating while on me.

I have spent the past two hours looking for a good review on a laptop cooling pad and haven't found much. I'm aware of where the MBP's vents are located and how that renders most options inefficient. However, I plan on doing some gaming on my 15" MBP and although not very effective I assume a cooling pad would have some effect if only in the 5-10 less degree category.
Any input on a device that is both ergonomically comfortable while lessening the temperature even moderately would be appreciated.
I plan on using 3rd party software to adjust my fan speeds before I begin gaming rather than waiting on the machine to notice the increased temps. SMC seems like the best option any input on this software or general manual adjustment of fan speeds would be appreciated.
I should note i'm not interested in the cooling crystal pads as it seems they only prodive cooling for 2-3 hours.

I have a 2.0 macbook with 2g ram 80gb harddrive with 29gb free. My problem is that my macbook runs idle at around 130-140 degrees fahrenheit. When I go to Youtube it goes up to around 160 degrees and when I go to Google Books and open up a page my macbook reaches around 180 degrees I also do a lot of audio production and temperatures reach a steady 165-180 if I have a fair bit of processing going on.
What the hell is going on? I need to use google books for school and don't think it is safe to use my MB at such high temps. Also with all of the audio work I do I imagine that the lifespan of this computer will not last very long.

I was just curious what little applications people are using to mac OS X that much cooler. Here's what i'm using...
I use Menu Meter. It puts a little upload/download meter in the menu bar so I can see what's going on with my network. It also has the ability to display cpu and ram usage, but I don't use those.
It's also use Delocalizer it goes through ever application and removes all of the foreign language documentation associated with them. Unless you are incredibly interested in learning how to use iTunes in Mandarin Chinese, I promise that there is about 200+ mb of space you can free up. (Ignore the website's warning, i've used it on 10.3 and it worked fine)
Finally I use Synergy for it's iTunes capabilities.

I happen to have a Late 2007 MacBook Pro (The specs are in my signature). My model was also the one affected by the 8600Gt issue so I had taken to a nearby Apple Reseller in Dubai in 2008. It's been months since that happened.
However, I've been monitoring my CPU & GPU temperatures and I'm still confused about what is ideal and if I should be worried about anything.
(I took a screenshot of my iStat readings and there's a difference of atleast 11C between the GPU Diode and GPU Heatsink)
Is there anything alarming that I should be worried about?
