Mar 22, 2012I am currently am MBA student and must create projects using power point/ keynote, very often. Many of the power points/ keynotes created by students are informative but lack the ability to hold an audience’s attention (boring). Since I have this wonderful Macbook pro, I would like to create a dynamic keynote presentation which would include clips of audio and video files (I already know about converting keynote to power point). The only problem is, the videos I want to use in the keynote presentation are not able to be manipulated in iMovie (due to their format), and if they where able to be manipulated in iMovie, I’m not sure that PC users would be able to properly view them.
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users? If this is possible, can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files (including embedded audio) so that it can be viewed by both Lion and PC users? Preferably one that does not need access to the internet in order to convert the files ( I’m on the go allot and use an air card for internet access), but I will take it if this is the best option. If the app store does not have this type of application, is there a place that I can download a safe one?

Since few days I'm no more able to play videos in iTunes (movies or video podcasts just get me a black square, audio working fine !). If I try to play some regular AVI with VLC, it crashes directly (I deleted all preferences but still the same) and all softwares using advanced graphic features such as Photoshop have issues or disable graphic features..I thought first it might be the graphic card so I changed it but still exactly the same..

Apr 16, 2012I have been having problems playing .avi files with my computer. At first it was running 10.6 and after being upgraded to 10.7 the problem is still there.
I have been trying to install different codecs -- Perian(1.2.2 & 1.2.3 and uninstalled DviX first), flip4Mac, etc, but everytime i try to play an avi file with quicktime player X, it says that quicktime player can not open the file 'A required codec is not available'.
I have also tried to open the file with Quick Player 7 and VLC, the strange thing is that the video 'plays' (the sliding bar is moving), but i see no video in the application window -- it was just all black.

May 26, 2012Since upgrading to os lion, quicktime movies won't play audio with the video anymore. I'll hit play and the audio will sound out for a fraction of a second while the video continues to play. I never had this problem with snow leopard.

Jun 4, 2012I think this may be a Lion upgrade issue, but for the last few months one of my most-visited websites (a newspaper, the UK's www.telegraph.co.uk) has been unable to play any video content, typically short news clips, on either Firefox or Safari. Other newspapers work fine. I have tried asking the Telegraph but got no response from them - 'it's a local issue', I was told. Clearly. I've tried updating Flash Player, Quicktime, DivX and Silverlight, not having much of a clue what it is.
