I have been having problems playing .avi files with my computer. At first it was running 10.6 and after being upgraded to 10.7 the problem is still there.Â
I have been trying to install different codecs -- Perian(1.2.2 & 1.2.3 and uninstalled DviX first), flip4Mac, etc, but everytime i try to play an avi file with quicktime player X, it says that quicktime player can not open the file 'A required codec is not available'.Â
I have also tried to open the file with Quick Player 7 and VLC, the strange thing is that the video 'plays' (the sliding bar is moving), but i see no video in the application window -- it was just all black.Â

I think this may be a Lion upgrade issue, but for the last few months one of my most-visited websites (a newspaper, the UK's www.telegraph.co.uk) has been unable to play any video content, typically short news clips, on either Firefox or Safari. Other newspapers work fine. I have tried asking the Telegraph but got no response from them - 'it's a local issue', I was told. Clearly. I've tried updating Flash Player, Quicktime, DivX and Silverlight, not having much of a clue what it is.Â

I have had a problem for a long time of videos on certain websites not playing on my MacBook Pro. I have the latest Lion OS update as well as the latest Flash update. I never have a problem with Youtube and most video plays fine but some websites, like for instance, news sites will not respond. I get a black screen with no controls or anythiing. Now I am having this problem with a site called MailChimp. I use FIrefox but it will not play in either Safari or Chrome.

I just bought this iMac in January and I've already had issues with Lion. First it was facetime.... now, I inserted a dvd-r that I already burned which has video files on them. The good thing, at least Lion recognizes that a cd/dvd is in the drive, the bad thing is that the dvd is already burned yet it keeps saying that I inserted a blank disc... which I did not.

I'm running 10.7.3 Server to host a Wiki with a local business. Everything is running great except for one thing. Embedded media.
Whenever we attach video files or keynote media, it will play back on the machine we posted it from but once anyone else pulls up the content on their machine it will show a media playback bar but will not play back. We've tried .mov, .m4v, .mp4 etc. and it will never play back.

I listen to and watch a lot of podcasts. Quite often, after I am done listening to a Audio Podcast I will watch a video podcast. Some times it gets stuck and won't play the video but plays audio fine. Anyone else have this problem?

Apologies for my naivet but I've recently switched to MacBook Air. I would very much like to watch video clips from my local newspaper but when I click to watch I'm told I don't have the plug-in/MIME. It leads me to a page for download but all that does is give me a document in Text Edit. It appears as hieroglyphics/gobbledygook. Is anyone able to tell me what I should do to get this really wonderful little machine to play Windows style video clips?

I am not sure why but my computer froze and I had to re-boot it. Since then I cannot run any video on you tube. I get a message that says "this video is currently unavailable". Does not matter what video it is. BTW, My MacBook works fine so I know it is not internet related.

I've got a 2010 13" MBP with an SSD installed. It has all the latest updates including iLife '11 and M$ Office 2011.I was watching videos in iTunes (music videos bought from iTunes store). As I went to play the next video, it wouldn't play; it just froze my computer. I did a hard rest and tried it with a few more, all of them froze my mac for about 30 seconds before playing. My first thought was it was an IO wait and my SSD was playing up. So I checked the console and have being getting
Quote:
NVDA(Video) Channel timeout!whenever I try to play a video. Next step, I tried to play a video in iTunes and quicktime from an external hard drive with the same result, ruling out the SSD.lease don't be my graphics card failing after only having the mac for 2 weeks, I was thinking! It then occurred to me that it maybe a codec problem, so I tried playing videos in VLC (ones not purchased in itunes but producing similar playback problems) and they worked!

I'm talking about iTunes, YouTube, Facebook videos.. you name it, it isn't working. I can't load any videos or play any music. Nor can I hear any audio on things that were pre-loaded before the problem started. And it just happened out of the blue maybe an hour ago! I've tried reinstalling iTunes, my Shockwave player, my QuickTime player to no avail.
And just to be clear, I did check to see if my speakers were muted or not (they were/are not) and if my audio output's were funky (they don't seem to be). I'm about to restart my computer and see what happens then.Â

Long ago, last year to be exact, I had a Macbook Pro 2009, with Open Office and MS Office older versions installed. They played embedded videos in both Impress and Powerpoint PERFECTLY.Â
This year I bought a Macbook Air and installed Open Office 4.1.0 and MS Office 2011. Now I cannot play any of the videos in these presentations.Â
I attempted to make new presentations and re-embed the videos. They play in Powerpoint fine ONCE, then not again. They do not embed at all in Open Office. The videos are all MP4 files.Â
This does not appear to be either a Microsoft or Open Office issue. To me this is clearly because of my upgrades. This is extremely frustrating, as I am a college professor and need to be able to use these programs without a problem. I also use presentations in my creative work.Â

My job requires that I view flash videos that are 3 hours in duration. In the past I used a PC, but we are now authorized to use Macs. Is it safe to do this on my new 15" MBP Core i7? I've only tried it just _once, with my new MBP.It got pretty warm on the bottom, I could hold it in the palm of my hand, so it was not so hot that it would burn, but it was very warm. It was sitting on my desk and not my lap.

Ive recon that when having your MBP's GT330M turned on, you can't play YouTube-videos in full-screen, my screen just turns white, and nothing happens.. Then you have to ESC yourself outta there..
The funny thing is that if you use the Intel HD Graphics processor, it works fine, but it gets very laggy if you have 720p res..
Is there anyone else having this problem?

I'm giving an old Dual G4 Power Mac to my father for Christmas. I would like him to see the 10.5 multi-lingual welcome video [URL] when he boots the computer for the first time. What can I do before I shutdown the computer for the last time before I give it to him so it plays the video on the next boot?
Ideally I'd like for the OS to show the video full screen like it does after an install, and then show the login window (or in his case, automatically log in). I'd prefer not to add the video to his account's login items

When I try to watch any CNN video, nothing plays. WHen I click on the play/pause indicator I get "02:37" in large type across the video area. The same thing happens to any video. It happens in Safari, Firefox, and in IE in virtual Windows through VMWare. THe same thing happened earlier in the year, then it seemed to resolve itself for a few months but now the problem is back. NOthing I try seems to help. I am using Mac Pro (early 2008) OS X 10.6.4
