May 10, 2012I can't restore my user account from the users screen because I get an alert that Mac OS needs something. I can't restore in TimaeMachine from the Admin screen because I can't see other users home folders.Â

Well I remember clearly, very very clearly back in Tiger that you could create a folder, or just an existing folder within say "Photos" and you could click it and it would access that folder and all its pictures. Mainly for changing the pictures every 5/10/30/day w/e I like my background to change often. Many pictures.
Well I have had leopard for a while. I forgot when I installed it. But I have noticed ever since then that when I try and change my background. It only lets me use photos that are inside the original Photo folder. There are no folders present inside the photo folder in the Background change area. Only pictures are present. This is a huge issue due to how I like to have things organized.

Apr 11, 2012My middle son is off to college this week (in Japan) and will be taking with him a new MacBook Air. Naturally, he wants to also take his music and apps that he has purchased over the years, which now reside on my iMac (the family's media hub) along with music and apps for all the other members of the family. Â
But I can't find any way to sort the music and apps by account, which means he'll have to go through the entire iTunes libray one song and one app at a time. That'll take way too much time. Â
Is there a way to easily identify the music and apps associated with a single iTunes account from among many accounts? Â
I also face this same prospect when the youngest child goes off to college in 3 years, so if I can figure this out for the middle child, it will save considerable time when the youngest gets her own Mac.

Apr 13, 2012I need to do a complete restore of my MacBook from a previous time. Now, I back up my wife's MacBook and mine to the same external hard drive using Time Machine on a regular basis and if I open TM on my MacBook I can see all my backups in the 'time travel' view. As well, if I do a Finder search in my external hard drive, all the backup files are there, both my wife's and mine in two separate folders.
The problem comes when I try to restore, using my Install DVD. At the point that it asks me where the backup is stored, I click on my external hard drive and it shows my wife's and my backups as options. All my wife's backups appear when I select hers. But only my original backup appears when I select mine. It doesn't recognise all my subsequent backups. I've tried deleting my wife's backup folder but still only see my original backup.

Oct 25, 2010I have been having a problem editing pictures (screen goes white when I click 'edit') so i went to a discussion about it. I followed directions for fixing the problem including renaming my iphoto folder and now I can't find my old pictures. I changed the name back and still no photos. I tried to go to file vault and restore the pictures but I get a message saying that file vault can't be found. I know a little about fixing problems but some of the information about this issue is over my head. I've had this mac for 2 years and until now have been able to trouble shoot all my problems.

She has a trial account currently, so from what I understand is tomorrow I go buy the family pack box set, set up my account (which will be the master account), cancel her account (disable synching on her iPhone before hand), add her account under account options in my account, and viola.Now here's my question:Since we will both be on the same 'family pack,' will she be able to view my emails, find my iPhone, pictures, or anything else? And vice versa.What I'm hoping is that even though they are in the same family pack, you will have to log in with each specific account (via password) to see mail, contacts, etc

Apr 2, 2012My iMac wouldn't boot. All it would do is come up to a utility screen. So, I opted to restore from a backup (I use Time Machine that does backups to an external drive connected to the fire-wire port). I select the date of the backup that I wanted to restore and went to the next screen. When it got to the next screen where you needed to select a destination drive... it didn't find any in the system (there was no drive to select).
I assumed the hard drive died so I bought a new one. I put that in this evening and when I tried to boot the machine and restore from a backup to the new internal drive... the same thing happened. It did not recognize the new hard drive I just installed. I replaced a 500 GB Western Digital hard drive with a 1 TB Western Digital hard drive. Now I'm thinking the original hard drive is still good.
