Applications :: IPhoto Pictures Deleted - Any Way To Restore?
Dec 28, 2010
My mom accidentally deleted all the Christmas photos when she only meant to delete just one of them. She'd already deleted them off the camera. It all happened so fast, before Time Machine or any backups.

Before I realized that I should not rename or delete anything in my Iphoto folder, I had already renamed and deleted a bunch of stuff out of it. Now I can't access any of the pics in Iphoto. Is there any way to go back and undo everything? How can I get those photos back into Iphoto?

I used iPhoto to import pictures off of a camera instead of manually copying them to my Photo folder and then using iPhoto to get them from there. So, my question is, where did those pictures go? I'm hoping that they are stored in some folder somewhere (which I have been unable to find) and that they are NOT just part of the monstrous "iPhoto Library" file in the Photos folder where I can't actually get at them.

I have been having a problem editing pictures (screen goes white when I click 'edit') so i went to a discussion about it. I followed directions for fixing the problem including renaming my iphoto folder and now I can't find my old pictures. I changed the name back and still no photos. I tried to go to file vault and restore the pictures but I get a message saying that file vault can't be found. I know a little about fixing problems but some of the information about this issue is over my head. I've had this mac for 2 years and until now have been able to trouble shoot all my problems.

My new iPhoto '09 is quitting after downloading about 5/five/pictures from desktop or folder or other files. The number of photos in the folder is about 80. I did try not to use import cmd. and just slide few /8/ from desktop into iPhoto - is not taking - quitting after download of 3. Was no problem with download of original software. Was no problem with iPhoto '08 ever. My next step will be to uninstall whole iPhoto'09 and download again from the disc, but I am hoping for shorter solution.

So I admit to fiddling around with the iPhoto folder in my Pictures section before I knew that was a bad idea. Basically I was trying to move pictures out of my iPhone library into another folder on my computer so they would be out of my iPhone library on my comp and my phone.
Anyway, now for some reason there are duplicates on my iPhone in the Photos app but not in the iPhoto app on my Mac. Any thoughts on what the hell I did?

When you delete something but change your mind, and the app is still in the trash bin, how can I restore back to its location with all the components? I know I can simply drag the main app to my application folder but what about the other components?

My new upgrade to iPhoto '11 seems to be working almost perfectly. It doesn't do the greatest job of auto-locating people to names in Faces, which is a bit of a disappointment, but I chalk it up to limitations in the facial recognition software, not a bug with iPhoto '11.
The biggest fail is that Places seems to be working NOT at all. I have pictures taken in a few places around the globe, and it only seems to recognize one of my hundreds of Northern California photos and only two of my dozens of photos from Hawaii. It doesn't recognize ANY of the pics I took in Europe or the thousands taken in my home region.

How do I upload pics from a sony digital camera (cybershot, about a year old)? I figured it would automatically detect the camera and get going, but nothing is really happening. Its probably really simple, but I have never done it before.

I have been using a mac for about a year and overall am happy with it. When using a PC in the past, I would organize my pictures in file folders by year and then by month. My husband backs up our pictures on an external hard drive (I don't use time machine) and we're finding the way iPhoto stores the pictures to be "messy" since it does it according to import date rather than file date.
I know that if I go to the original file in my library and move stuff around (in order to "clean it up") that iPhoto cannot find the pictures anymore and takes me to where it originally was. I did a test run on about 3 pictures.
Is there a way to change the way iPhoto organizes the actual files? Or am I going to just have to clean the folders up once they are on the external hard drive?

Where did this feature go? In the previous version of iPhoto, you could select a picture and there was a one-click process for ordering prints and/or posters. Is this feature hiding somewhere? I use it on occasion for posters. I have attached a pic showing the group where the button for the feature used to reside.

using iphoto 7.1.4 [371 ]. So far I have trashed the iphoto prefs.-finder.plist and ran diskwarrior. when i click on a thumb pic. it opens but it will break apart into blocks in the window; I click on the outside of the pic. to close and click on pic. again and it will open okay.quite often when it reopens it seems that the redraw of the pic is a little slow. after opening several pics. it seems to settle down and work okay for awhile. when I close the iphoto app.

I was backing up my drive this evening. I left the Mac alone and realised when I returned that Time Machine deleted my oldest, and most important, Time Machine backup.
It's on an external hard drive.
Is there any way to recover this at all? This is so massively important!

Long story short I accidentally deleted my dashboard from the applications folder and emptied the trash. I don't have the original restoration disks so I was hoping that someone could host the file for me.

Earlier today I copied my iPhoto library file and the iPhoto prefs file to from my Mac Pro to my MacBook (using Chronosync's "mirror" option), for a week away from home.
I've now come to using iPhoto on my MacBook, and noticed that the thumbnails for my modified pictures had reverted to thumbnails of the originals. Clicking on any of these modified images just brings up a large exclamation mark on a grey circle background.
I know that this normally means that iPhoto cannot find the relevant file in the library (usually because someone's been messing around in the library - which I haven't; I took a mirror image), but the odd thing is if I click on "Edit", the image I'm then presented with is the modified image, so it's still there and iPhoto damn well knows it.
I've tried opening iPhoto with alt-opt to get it to rebuild everything, but it hasn't made any difference.

I've made a bit of a cock up with a website i've been developing, and being a bit new to all things Mac i've deleted some files.
Basically i've downloaded a copy of the website from the server to my local disc but the local copy also contained all my raw files PSD's etc. I didn't realise that transmit deleted the local copy before downloading and not merging them which is what most windows ftp software does.
Anyway, long story short, is there any way of restoring those files either via transmit or another bit of software ?

I accidentally deleted my entire iTunes library. What happened was that I intended to delete all the songs from just one artist but for some reason, my iTunes deleted everything in my library which I have collected over the past 6 years. It gets worse because:
1 - I can't get my files back from my iPod because it died about a year ago
2 - I agreed to move all files to my recycle bin (at that point I had no idea I was deleting my entire library) and when I went to check the bin, none of the files were there
3 - I attempted a system restore but all it did was to return my folders with no files in them
4 - I tried to use a couple of undelete files software but none of them found the deleted files.
I'm really desperate to get my files back.

my sister opened iphoto on her G4 iBook and found that all her photos were gone. I did a bit of troubleshooting from my knowledge and found that her "iphoto pictures" folder isn't located under her account. Not in the trash, etc.
I've stressed the importance of remembering anything that she changed/deleted etc, and also to remember any notifications she might have recieved. She couldn't give me anything.
She doesn't back up her computer (i just backed up my parents for the first time today but not hers, oh the irony) and now shes stuck in this jam.

I have 7,000+ photos in my iPhoto library, many of which have been painstakingly edited. However, when I noticed yesterday that pictures I had deleted (and emptied from the iphoto trash) have reappeared in the library under the relevant 'Events' folder. Why oh why oh why? I have spent six hours already redeleting and editing. Why did this happen? How can I repeat it from happening again? Do I need to "rebuild" my library by holding down the command + option keys when opening iphoto?

Whenever I used to delete photos in iPhoto, it would first give me a warning... something to the effect of "are you sure you want to do this?" At some point, I lost this (I'm assuming I clicked "always skip" or something like that) warning so now, when even I unintentionally click delete...
how to restore this important warning "double-opt-in" type button?

I don't know what to do. My MacBook was perfectly fine this morning before I left for work. I come back, start it up, and my "Pictures" folder is non-existent. Anything that was in that folder is gone, including iChat icons and my Photobooth Library. What's even stranger is the fact that I was using MacKeeper's Files Recovery, and the strangest images were showing, such as icons for Apps, symbols, buttons in iTunes, etc. I'm using a different recovery tool at the moment to see what I can recover from my disk, but I don't know if that's the best idea?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I needed to delete 2 pictures from ICloud, with 5.1 and higher this should have been as simple as right clicking and choosing deleteIt did not work, followed directions for resetting ICloud, it said existing pictures already saved on Imac would not be deleted, after reset just send pictures from your device back to Photo Stream, it deleted all pictures that I had in IPhoto that I had pushed to Photo Stream icloud, how can this happen and how do I get my pictures back.

I created a smart folder on my MBP so I can see the streamed photos without using iPhoto.
~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub is where they are stored.
The criteria is to search for "kind is image" in the sub folder.
I see images that do not exist anymore on my iPad and iPhone. I thought that everything would sync and that images older than 30 days would not appear. Why are these photos collecting on my mac? If I delete them on my iPad, shouldn't they be deleted from my MBP 10.9.4 as well As from my iPhone?
Info:
MBP 15 CD, MBP C2D 17, 17 Uni; TiBook, G4 MP500; iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7),
