OS X :: Hide Icon Preview For Certain File Types?

Sep 18, 2010

What I want to do is hide the annoying icon preview for files like .txt, .xml, .php, .html etc. Instead I want the file to show the icon associated with the default app, while having icon preview still on for other files(like images). Is this possible?

OS X :: Way To Hide Certain File Types?

Dec 21, 2009

As some/most photographers know, when editing a RAW image in Photoshop (probably other Adobe applications as well), Photoshop creates a .xmp sidecar file that contains the RAW converter settings and saves them in the original folder that the image exists in. In order to create a cleaner, easier to view finder window is it possible to hide certain file types in OSX? Such as hiding all files that have the extension .xmp?

OS X :: File Size Limit For Icon Preview?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm relatively new to using a Mac seriously, having just acquired a lovely new MBP with Snow Leopard installed. I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to limit the icon preview feature to just showing previews for files less than a certain size? My background is with Linux, and KDE provides a configurable file size cut off above which icon previews are not shown.

I ask because I've got a folder full of large (ie 16GB) ASCII files full of output from some scientific algorithms. Whenever I browse to that folder, the Quick Look Helper eats up all 8GB of my system memory before the OS kills it off and it moves on to the next file. This is *really* irritating.

So, is there a way to limit icon preview's behaviour to small (ie normal) files, or do I just have to turn it off completely?

OS X Mavericks :: Why No Longer Hide Table Of Contents In Preview

Jun 27, 2014

I am a student and I use Preview to read my textbooks as most are available as PDF documents. However, since upgrading to Mavericks I am having trouble with very basic features that worked in Mountain Lion. Specifically, the table of contents no longer seems to function properly. My books are often well over a thousand pages, and thumbnail view is practically useless. I require the table of contents in order to navigate efficiently. My problem is that (since updating to the new OS last night) I am no longer able to hide the table of contents.

I will clarify further. In Mountain Lion, if one were to use preview in full screen mode, the user could select "Table of Contents" from the View menu and then select "Content Only" from the same menu. This would hide the sidebar. And upon mousing over the left edge of the screen the sidebar would pop out, displaying the table of contents and allowing successful navigation. Now, in Mavericks, after going through the same process, mousing over the edge of the screen causes the sidebar to pop out, but only displays thumbnails. Not the table of contents.

The 15" MBP screen is too small to display two pages side by side with the sidebar taking up 1/4 the screen. Hiding the sidebar is the only way to fit what I need on the screen. I am constantly flipping from page to page and need the table of contents handy. Why would Apple break this functionality?

OS X :: How To Exclude Certain File Types From Recent Documents

Nov 17, 2007

I just saw this terminal script dock tip from [URL] where your recent Applications or Recent Documents among other "Recent" choices show up as a stack, which I thought was perfect because I could finally show my recent documents, which I couldn't do before due to smart folders not working with stacks. The only problem now is that the most inane file types show up there, such as iChat files and prefPanes, so I was wondering if anybody knew of script that would allow for you to exclude those doc types from showing up in recent documents.

Software :: IMovie And Importing Movie File Types?

Oct 12, 2001

Why in the world can't I import Quicktime files into iMovie? I'm guessing it has to do with frame rates or something. Or can I and am I just missing something?

If not, is there a file conversion tool anyone could recommend to convert Quicktime or other movie file types? Or do I have to somehow record out to a video to a deck and then import it back in to my iMovie?

I guess I expected iMovie to be something like Premiere. Would Final Cut allow me to do this?

Software :: Can Hide An Open Application's Icon From The Dock

Jul 13, 2010

To the point... I use TimeOut to remind me to get up and move, while I am on my computer. It is a handy app that will make the screen go blank for how ever long I set my breaks to last.

The thing is... I don't need the application icon to sit in my Dock taking up space telling me the application is open. I know it is open since it tells me to get up and stretch every 20 minutes by blanking my screen.

So, is there any way to take the application's icon off the Dock while still leaving it open?

<string>0</string>
right above
</dict>

How do you configure Leopard so it automatically hides all file extensions? I've gone to Finder/Preference/Advanced and unchecked the 'show all file extensions' option, but it does nothing. To remove the file extensions, I literally have to go into each individual file. There has to be some way around this, but I'm new to OS X.
