Just installed Telestream to open wmv files, but still getting error message that required codec is not available

Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?

I am unable to watch a downloaded show because the required codec isn't available - "QuickTime Player can't open "Shameless.US.S02E01.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi" because a required codec isn't available."

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust bought my new Mac Pro within the month, already having issues! All of my applications today are looking like this: [URL]. That's Safari, in case you couldn't tell. I have the 2.8GHz 8-core with everything default, so the graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB. The only thing I have upgraded so far has been RAM. I added 8GB of OWC 2GB sticks. Have completed the hardware test multiple times and never shows any problems. The other "fun" thing I just got was a codec overrun error, which I'm not sure if it's related. I tried downloading Onyx to see if clearing cache would fix anything but got that error when trying to open the dmg.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI composed an email today and it didn't like the way I configured the addresses. I got an error message saying the message couldn't be sent because of the address format. Now, every time I send an email, no matter to whom, that error pops up. My correctly addressed emails go out just fine. How do I get rid of it? Where do I find the draft to delete it so the program doesn't keep trying to send? (It's not in my draft folder)

I'm having some difficulty sending email from my account due to a mail server issue and it would be relly helpful if I could read the error message that drops down and quickly disappears when I attempt to send a test email. Is there any log that captures this so I can read it?

Under Snow Leopard, my Photo Booth app stopped working for some mysterious reason. I was never able to debug why it would not run. Now, under Lion, after migrating everything over from my old Macbook, Photo Booth STILL won't open, and now I get a peculiar error message: Photo Booth quit unexpectedly while using the Apple_AUBandpass plug-in. This is peculiar, since I don't know why Photo Booth would be accessing audiounits.

When downgrading from Lion using Time Machine got error message, how do I proceed to not lose data?

I've been without use of Time Machine for sometime (months) now. I've been getting the following error:
My backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex - 320GB) was a attached to my Airport Extreme, but in desperation I moved it to being directly attached to my MBP. I've also excluded large number of files from the back up (reduced the full backup size to half the size of the backup disk). Also, I've erased and reformatted the back up disk - twice. No errors on it either.Â
What would be really helpful, was if there was some indication as to WHAT the problem actually is. This is a rather ambiguous error message, which does little to help a person to troubleshooot. It seems like the backup is being hung up on a file or files...but I'm just guessing.Â
Has anybody out there run into this? If so, what was your solution?

What happens when the error message in the Mail program is long that you cannot get to the bottom of it? I cannot click it or even access this email from a folder or mailbox to delete it. Am I going to be stuck with it for eternity???Â

Often I just put my Macbook Pro with Lion OS to sleep manually, instead of shutting down. Since the upgrade to OS Lion, when I return to the computer I often am greeted with a message that I could not be logged out because Firefox failed to quit. Is sleep a logout? I don't intend to logout...though I do require a password to regain access after the computer enters the sleep state. This is a consistent issue with Lion, which never occurred with the earlier OS.

Since upgrading to Lion, I have been having problems backing up to Time Machine using a LaCie external disk. Time Machine worked fine before the upgrade to Lion. The backup usually starts correctly, but after backing up around 1GB, I get the following error message: "The disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before unplugging or turning it off". The disk has over 80GB of space available.

I am getting a pop up error message with a yellow triangle and yellow exclamation point in Safari but it immediately disappears after it appears. This happens so fast that I cannot read the error message. A java applet for my bank's website is not running properly and knowing what the error message is might help solve the problem.

I have the Windows XP SP1 disk that came with my old computer. I know that OEM disks don't work, but i successfully install Windows onto bootcamp every time i try, and it works perfectly. The only thing is, I can't install the bootcamp drivers which let me access wifi because i don't have sp2. I can't slipstream, because the disk has updates integrated inside of it, and whenever I try to install SP2 from the sp2 install file i dl'd from the microsoft site, it always gives me a "4 additional megabytes required" error. I added 5 gigabytes. and it still has this error.

I am using the Mail (5.2) app in OS 10.7. I have my Inbox sorted by decending date, i.e. newest mail at the top. When I delete a message, Mail currently selects the message above, i.e. the one that had arrived after the deleted one chronologically. Since I work through my emails from newest to latest (usually), I will already have seen the newer mesage. What I want to see is the next message on the list, i.e. the next one, which arrive before the deleted one. My question there is: How can I advance to the previous message rather than the next one (chronologically) after deleting a message?
