When I try to open my .avi file it says a required codec isn't available. I have tried downloading perian but that didn't work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?

So, my 5 year old iMac's become outdated bec. I have Tiger and OSX 10.4.11.Mac's moving my email to "the cloud" and I cannot upgrade to Lion, which is required. Is buying a new computer my only option? Or, can this machine be manually upgraded with new parts?

My normal workflow is to shoot HDV 1080i60 and import via a Sony HD-700 clamshell via firewire into FCP 6.0.6 working with a sequence set to HDV 1080i60. Depending on my next steps, I'll either export straight from here, do a QT conversion, or transfer the sequence to a Pro Res sequence and export from there. I'll often send a compressed (H.264) file to the client via yousendit. Never has there been a problem with the workflow or the client opening the file on a PC...
Now the other day, for the first time I had to work off of my portable set-up....FCE off a macbook pro and an external 7200 rpm hard drive. I imported with the only available choice (apple intermediate codec) and went about my edit. I exported and sent the file....While the file was fine on my laptop the PC user could only HEAR the QT file but got no picture. I was able to burn a DVD and move the operation to my desktop.
But after countless attempts at troubleshooting, including printing to tape and reimporting, recapturing all the original footage from tape, using my standard sequence settings, etc. I still can only export a QT file that is unable to be properly viewed by PC users.

How do I remove codec m from my mac?Every time I try to uninstall this program, it never works. I have tried moving the items to the trash, but the product still remains!
View 3 Replies View Relatedexport codec that can give me .mov files that can be used in any quicktime player (mac or pc). Currently exporting to h.264, but it is taking ages...
Second question:
Having troubles too, getting the camera to record in native FCP .mov's. Despite setting to .mov mode in the camera's file format option, it still seems to pump out xdcam ex files...What I want is to record straight sony xdcam files, is there some setting in the camera I am missing?

Just bought my new Mac Pro within the month, already having issues! All of my applications today are looking like this: [URL]. That's Safari, in case you couldn't tell. I have the 2.8GHz 8-core with everything default, so the graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB. The only thing I have upgraded so far has been RAM. I added 8GB of OWC 2GB sticks. Have completed the hardware test multiple times and never shows any problems. The other "fun" thing I just got was a codec overrun error, which I'm not sure if it's related. I tried downloading Onyx to see if clearing cache would fix anything but got that error when trying to open the dmg.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI really want to burn a normal video-DVD of this video, but it is encoded with a weird codec. I don't even know what the codec is. The latest version of Quicktime won't even play the .avi file, but VLC media player handles it perfectly with no prompting or hassle.
I have a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.6, and I have never burned a video-DVD before, only data-DVDs. I am guessing I need some kind of software to turn this encoded computer-video file into a nice MPEG for the DVD. What software? Please suggest free and paid-for software, I am doing this for a class and I have a budget.
On my first dvd rip i had a loud crack in the audio in the first 10 seconds of the movie. I stopped the movie there in case there were more in the movie. Is there something i did wrong? i ripped to a mp4 format with h.264 codec.I'm using handbrake 0.9.3 on an imac core due 2ghz 3gigs of ram. Leopard 10.5.8

I'm having a problem viewing some .mov files due to a missing codec. A contractor delivered me video content from a recent event on an external hard drive. The files he sent me are .mov files that he exported from Final Cut Pro using a DVCPRO HD (720p60), linear PCM, Timecode codec. I want to be able to view these files through Quicktime on my machine, but I don't use FCP. I tried installing the Apple prores decoder, as another thread here seemed to indicate this might solve my issue, but when I ran the installer, it said a newer version fo the decoder was already installed on my machine. Is there any straightforward way to download/install the codec I need to view these files without shelling out for FCP?

as the title says. I have some AVI files that Quicktime doesn't want to play. it's telling me to go to this site that has different codecs but none of them work. I have that flip4mac program but it doesn't do anything either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the Xvid codec for Quicktime. And in the ReadMe file it tells me this his how I install the codec:
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). Do not put in: /System/Library/QuickTime.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS). But I haven't got a clue where the Home Directories are.
I've just tried DivX for Mac [URL] but found out that it doesn't support .srt subtitles. I'm already using Flip4Mac for .wmv files, but I'm looking for a codec pack to play all other codecs like Divx, Xvid, H.264 with subtitles support for .sub and .srt files. I know that Perian is a good one, but is there anyone better?

Who would want to encode in 256 colors? Why would you use the ancient Graphics codec??
Well, I am. Get over it! If I just encode a movie with Graphics codec, it obviously looks very dithered and crappy.
I can generate an optimized color palette in Photoshop and export that table to an .act file. But how do I associte that color palette with my Quicktime?

At its annual I/O conference, Google has unveiled its plan to release a video codec it acquired as a royalty free alternative to the ISO MPEG's H.264. Google was joined by Mozilla and Opera as browser vendors that would be including support for the new codec, dubbed WebM. Mozilla's Firefox currently does not support H.264 because doing so would require purchasing a license from the ISO.WebM is, as the name suggests, targeted at the web and not intended to replace H.264 across the board. As such, the project can be focused on a narrower set of engineering goals. WebM also supports HTML5 delivery of web video, as unlike H.264, it can be used to deliver web-based videos to any modern web browser, not just the commercial products of large companies like Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
View 39 Replies View RelatedDespite the unbridled enthusiasm among bloggers for Google's newly announced free WebM codec, a digital video expert has reviewed the new VP8 specification and delivered a severely deflating technical analysis, noting that it decodes video slowly, is buggy, and copies H.264 closely enough to all but guarantee patent issues. What could possibly go wrong? The knee jerk reaction to Google's announcement was to ask whether Microsoft and Apple would immediately jump to support the new codec, given that the two companies offer the default choice in web browsers to nearly all desktop users, and given Apple's strong influence over mobile devices.
View 39 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open either of these 3 apps the system tells me they can't open because they are currently being updated. Software Update shows my system as needing no update. The last update that it shows was for ProApps Codecs v1.0.5. I am running a macbook pro / OS 10.9.3.
The manual download for that update, (ProApps Codecs v1.0.5), is a dead link,[URL].
I have one of the new black mac desktops with the exact same setup as my laptop. It's software updates list shows an update for the 3 apps I am having trouble opening on my laptop as having successfully installed. All 3 apps are working fine on the desktop system.
- trash my preferences on the laptop to force system update to reinstall the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
- fix the broken link at support.apple.com so I can manually install the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
- or perform some kind of Voodoo that will get my FCP, Motion, and Compressor opening again?
I have searched a lot for this question and have not found an answer.
I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:
