OS X V10.7 Lion :: Email Blocks And Is Asking For Password?
Mar 25, 2012
On my macbook pro and Imac, since i installed Lion instead of leopard, my emails account stops working and asking for my password. By filling it in it works again for one day or some days. Repeating action...
I recently purchased a SBG900 Motorola cable modem/router to use with my IMAC. For a beginner, I found the setup instructions woefully lacking. I have managed to set up an "unsecure" wireless connection with the 900. It works fine for websurfing. I cannot however send email. When I do, I get a pop up box saying that my email connection to the Apple server on port 25 has timed out. I am able to receive email just fine. I wanted to sort this problem out before attempting to "secure" the network. I'm guessing its somewhere in the Motorola setup but I'm not sure where to start.
I am having fun with my iMac (late 2011 + 10.7.3) aspecially with software bugs. One of them is following:Volume controll keys on my wireless keyboard do not controll sound. Doesn,t matter which one I press I do see the icons on the display but there is no effect on volume level. The sound "speaker icon" on the system bar is inactive and when I press it I see that slider is frozen at the very bottom and can't be moved.Switch your iMac off.Remove batteries from the wireless keyboard.Switch your Mac on.Sound is back, and after placing batteries back in your keyboard you can see also that sound keys are working again. Unfortunatelly you have to make this operation each time when you switching your iMac off.
Mac mail application keeps asking for email account password for my each of my email addresses. I have a password noted in the mail preferences under each of my email accounts.
I have a mac mini and macbook pro.  As you will see, the issues are complex. I spoke to both Apple and my server many times: all determined to help solve the issue as a technical problem, but rather complacent about the strong possibility of new malware. Both ended up basically with 'dunno'.   Needless to say, I backup regularly via time machine. These probs represent the downside!  My workplace techs said one was probably flashback (dealt with as per apple advice), the other like dnschanger - but a new and more invidious version. I'm probably giving away too much information, but it's a bit late to worry about that. Â
Both did different things AT THE SAME TIME, with the same sites. Therefore, it was definitely not a server issue. Both were consistent.I've had odd behaviour: redirect included bypassing my proxy server and going online despite not putting in login details, and after logging in: in both instances, I was taken to Wikipedia front page. Also:Many times, lists of links instead of genuine front pages: Apple and server. Only 'big names' seemed affected. Other times, it looked ok but when I clicked on links I got nothing. I had problems logging on to App store and broadband provider, as well as software sites (2 x legit big apple-oriented companies). After the going online and redirect issue above, I decided to create new apple id and o2 email. I did a secure (as far as it goes) 7-layer wipe of the macbook, and reinstalled.Within a week, I had odd behaviours again. Two examples:
A recently acquired hard drive - a basically new drive - appears to have been causing my mbp to shut down randomly (different drive and the problem goes away). I ran a surface scan on it using tech tool pro 5 and found just one bad sector on the drive.
I zeroed the drive using the binary 0000 pattern option in tech tool (1 pass) and ran the surface scan again and this time the surface scan gets the all clear. Should I be worried about the drive? Is it likely to cause the same shut downs on my mbp? I know the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I tell ya, installing a hard drive on the mbp is time consuming!!
Latest Safari 5.1.7 blocks all cookies by default. Is it feature or bug? I can't login to any website that require cookies (for example Google Accounts).
I have not been able to figure out how to set a password on the Apple email application. When I called AppleCare, they said you can't set a password. Does anyone know anything about being able to set a Password for access to their Mac email?
Gmail is my default email client. I'm trying to send an email blast to my groups in address book. When I right click on a group, and click "send to...", none of the email address show up in the TO field, only the name of the Group appears.Previously, I used mac mail and clicking "send to" group would result in all email addresses going right where they're supposed to go.I don't know how I changed the client to Gmail, but if I can't get it to work, I'd like to switch it back.
My Quicken software suddenly stopped being able to connect to my bank via the Internet yesterday, giving the error message "Could not establish Internet connection with . . . check your Internet connection" Quicken support said others had been reporting the same problem recently, and it seemed to have something to do with Norton Antivirus. I uninstalled my "Symantec Solutions"/ "Norton Internet Security for Mac" applications (Norton Antivirus, Norton Firewall, Norton Confidential, LiveUpdate, and Symantec Scheduler) and the problem disappeared. I then contacted Symantec/Norton support and learned that they sent out an automatic "LiveUpdate" to their software this week that replaced everyone's working copy of "Norton Firewall" with a defective Version 4.1.0 that blocks connection to the Quicken server (and perhaps other programs?) unless the "Application Blocking" setting is manually turned off. Symantec says a patch to correct the problem will be released through "LiveUpdate" soon.
So my screen is giving me issue, not so much the physical screen, but the actual image on my display. I took some screen shots. I assume its something related to the graphics card, but I'd love more info. The screen shots didn't end up working, they came out all black. But basically the image breaks up into a difference blocks, then reorganizes itself. You can see it repeats sections of the Window, but makes it impossible to try to work. Or sometimes part of a Safari Window will stay "on top" of any other Window.
An external hard drive, 4TB Iomega...connected via eSATA cable...had a power outage and the drive won't be read by OSX now. (Yes, it was on a surge protector and no I did not have a backup. I was actually preparing for the process of creating a backup when the power went out!) Anyway, I have tried using Data Rescue 3 and DiskDrill to try and recover data from the drive. I can recover the first 1/3 of the drive, but it ejects when either app tries to access the bad block. how/what software to use to recover the data? I know there are programs that will avoid the bad block but I've only found them for Windows. Are there any that will do such a thing in Lion? I can not afford a data recovery service. Trying to do this on my own.

A website I need to access blocks the IP address of my Airport Extreme, my macbook pro and imac.... I connect through a DSL modem with a "PC" and can access the website www.ncrealtors.org, but the site blocks the IP address through the Airport Extreme, and even blocks when I connect the macs.

I've tried and tried to save it but it just stays blank. I've deleted the email account several times but without success. I've also noticed that Safari will not save my internet login password. I'm staying in a hotel and every 24 hours or so, I'll need to re-login. Using SL & Safari the username stays there but not the password. Before the SL install everything was fine, my email password and the hotel username & password would always be input and remembered.
I've set up various email accounts in Mail. I've had no problems downloading email but I'm cannot send emails. I can log on to my ISP's [Orange] Web Site so the password is correct. Everytime I try to send an email I keep getting a request for the password. I type in the correct password and Mail asks for it again and so on and so on.
My email address is <my>@<adddress>.wanadoo.co.uk. Incoming mail server: pop.wanadoo.co.uk User name: <address>.wanadoo.co.uk@fs Password: <password> Outgoing Mail Server: Account Information Description: left this blank Server Name: smtp.wanadoo.co.uk Advanced: Use default ports clicked Authentication: Password User name: <address>.wanadoo.co.uk@fs Password: <password> Under Advanced I have set the: Port: 110 Authentication: Password
I cannot see what I am doing wrong. In Outlook Express there was an option to enter yout smtp settings and then there was also a section for your ISP requires authentication. In that you would either click use the same settings or you would enter in different settings, if sending your mail through a different ISP. I also have accounts with other ISPs so would need to do same in Mail but I'm not sure how. Having said that, if I solve the current problem it would more than likely resolve the other one. I've tried pinging smtp.wanadoo.co.uk but nothing happens. However I can ping mail.btinternet.com so I know one of my ISPs works at least. Orange status line says the broadband service is working without any problems so unless that's false info, I'm doing something wrong.
A pop up keeps asking for my password for an email that I have deleted. It is not in my email list or address book. If i enter the old password it will go away, an hour later it will pop back up. It is getting annoying.
If your AppleID and e-mail password are the same, is it possible to have different passwords for the two? If so, how do you change the email password?Â
I got an iPod Touch today and I'm while I was testing out some apps I noticed that I cannot connect to my MacBook Pro.
If I try to ping it I get no response. Going to the Mac's address in a browser (web sharing is on) I don't get any response either. I cannot connect to for file sharing either. I have turned off the firewall in OS X and rebooted the computer with no change. All sharing options are enabled. If I run "sudo ipfw list" I get this: "65535 allow ip from any to any".
It appears however that Snow Leopard allows connection from outside the local network, as Internet, BitTorrent, Mail etc. works as usual.
I've tried turning the firewall off in the router but connections are still blocked.
Is there a way to have a different mail password instead of using the one that you use to login to Lion directly? Currently the two are the same login password = mail password.I'd like to have a different password for the two.Is this possible whether via command line or otherwise?

On my Macbook, I use Mail when on the road. Lately, every time I open Mail it asks me for my password. I supply it and compose a message. When I try to send the message, it asks me for my password again. In Mail Preferences, I type in my password for the account, click on the "save changes" box, and close Preferences. When I reopen preferences again, the password is missing. Also when I am asked for the password in order to send or receive messages, I fill in the password and click on "save password in keychain" box. No change - it continues to ask for the password every time.
Mail is making me mad I'm sure about all settings like SMTP, and other details are right. There is no problem to get email, but when I try to send it keeps asking password! and not sending! Can it be something about security settings or anything else? I'm pretty new at mac, I dont know many details.
I formatted my macbook recently and lost my passwords for hotmail and gmail and I don't remember them as I gave remember my password option. I don't remember the answer to the secret question. Is there any software that I can use to retrieve my passwords.
