View 2 RepliesAt the login screen, I choose my regular administrative account and enter my password. The screen goes blue, then returns to the login screen. No indication that my password is incorrect, and an incorrect password gives the proper response. I can log into the other account no problem.TechTool Pro shows no problem with my hardware.

I've recently started work with a new company and the previous employee has left, but has setup the adminstrative account on the work computer. When asked for a password, I don't know what he used. My boss and I have gone through some various passwords he used but none work. What are my options?

I bought a G4 desktop from a guy on craigslist about a week ago and I want to upgrade from 10.3.9 to the newer 10.5. He has an administrative account on the computer and whenever I try and load the 10.5, it asks for his password. I called the guy wondering what his password was and he told me. I tried entering that in and it will not work. Now the guy will not answer his phone or his e-mail address. I know he was the original owner because of the information on the computer and the name on the business card he exchanged for mine.
I would really like to upgrade my OS but I need to know how to go about reseting the computer to erase 100% of everything on the computer. Can someone please help me, I am new to Mac and I don't really know what to do!!!
changing my administrative password. i forgot my password and i wanna reset it but cant.

I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

Does anyone know the correct proceedure for migrating data from a corrupt user account to a new account on the same mac?Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedA freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a backup. how to create a new account for me?Â

We are experiencing an issue where our enterprise Mac machines running Mavericks (10.9.1 to 10.9.3) where accounts set with administrative privileges are somehow getting reset to standard privileges. When this occurs we are unable to administer the machine and even attempting to log in with root is unavailable. Our only recourse has been to reimage the machine. Â
We do run Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Lync. Not sure if that is playing a part but throwing it out there.Â

Working on a 2011 Macbook Pro with 10.7.3.I"ve setup many other macs with the same build and they all have created the mobile account when logging in for the first time, but this one will not allow the mobile account to get created.I'm connected to the line that gives me LAN access. I can log in with my own credencials and that works fine.I suspect it's the way the AD account is setup on the server but I'm not an admin for that. The same account sets up fine on a Windows box. Once I log in for the first time, it goes directly to the desktop. Basicly a local account but no user directory is created. With Fast User Switching turned on I see that it's showing someone elses name there, not the user that I logged in with. i.e. It should show 'joe jones' but it's showing 'fred smith'
Can't get screen grabs because there is no access. Can't show the FInder drives for the same reason, even if I go make the user an admin from a local admin account.I've seen some fixes in the forums but nothing works. I could just give in and create a local account an leave it at that, but that is not a fix
I don't remember ever having this problem since Keychain first appeared. About a week ago I changed my login password and now when I attempt to look at any of my Keychain passwords my computer prompts me to enter my Keychain password (which is my OLD login password) rather than allowing me to enter my new administrative login password. I don't want to have to remember two passwords when only a week ago I only ever had to enter my one current administrative password to authorize Keychain Access to allow me to look at any of my numerous passwords in its window pane. How can I get it to only require me to enter my one new/current adminstrative password? I tried "Keychain First Aid" and error messages to appeared stating: Verification Terminated Unexpectedly or Repair Terminated Unexpectedly A reviewer at MacUpdate had the same experience with Keychain First Aid that I did
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Parallels to run an embroidery software (Floriani) on my MacBook Air. Both Parallels and the Floriani are running fine and I can see my windows formatted external hard drive when in Floriani and can bring in files from it. But when I try to save a redesigned embroidery file to the external hard drive it tells me I can not because I do not have administrative rights. I have tried to also tried to copy embroidery files downloaded from the internet to my Macbook and get the same message. Since I am the administrator (and only user) of this laptop, how can I get access to the hard drive. I tried following the all the suggestions in the Help Center for setting permission but even though I can set the drive as a "shared" file I cannot see the "lock'" icon referred to and in the "Sharing and Permissions" it still says I can only read.Â

I know that my Mac is technically a multi-user system, but it offends me mightily to have to give administrative rights to programs from Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc when they should clearly be able to function in a single-user install available only to my userid.Â
I can see where firewall software and maybe stuff like vmware needs it but there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason for letting nearly every software company on the planet have super user access to my filesystem. Once I give them such rights its trivial for them to set up a set-uid permission as root on some little executable tucked away in their install.Â
Any way to force software to just install in your own userspace? Is there some type of jail/chroot I could set up to protect my system from these programs?

I'm creating a new user account and moving my personal data over to it, because I want a fresh start with default settings. Both accounts are administrators. Will I have any permissions problems after moving my files? I don't want to find out that I can't access my data on the new account because I don't have the UNIX permissions for it. Â
Edit: I don't know if it makes a difference, but I forgot to add that I am moving my files from the old account to an external firewire drive, and then from the drive to the new account. Also, I'm running 10.7.3Â

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am no longer using a Mail account which has no messages in the inbox, sent, etc., but I I've done a Save As of many of these messages into other folders outside of Mail on my computer, but are still Mail docs. Also, I can no longer access the server hosting this acct. and messages. Mail warns me that if I remove this account "all messages will be deleted permanently from your computer." Sounds like I should leave it be even though there are no messages left from this acct. in Mail. Would removing this Mail acct. actually result in all the messages in other non-Mail folders on my computer disappearing?
