Got a new macbook pro for my son and migrated his user that had parental controls to the new system. Now i can't do anything with the system. Almost everything is locked out. I would normally reinstall the operating system but it didn't come with a disk.

Okay, so here is how my question comes about... I have already searched and could not find links to other threads..
I bought a G4 desktop from a guy on craigslist about a week ago and I want to upgrade from 10.3.9 to the newer 10.5. He has an administrative account on the computer and whenever I try and load the 10.5, it asks for his password. I called the guy wondering what his password was and he told me. I tried entering that in and it will not work. Now the guy will not answer his phone or his e-mail address. I know he was the original owner because of the information on the computer and the name on the business card he exchanged for mine.
I would really like to upgrade my OS but I need to know how to go about reseting the computer to erase 100% of everything on the computer. Can someone please help me, I am new to Mac and I don't really know what to do!!!

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning OS 10.6.2. A couple of days ago I noticed that my iCal was completely blank. Everything gone. Odd, but not a big problem - I just restored it from my iPhone. I just rebooted twenty minutes ago and my user profile has been completely reset - from the desktop settings to individual application settings. I haven't had any data loss as far as I can tell, but every single application setting has been reset - I've lost my bookmarks, startup settings, RSS subscriptions, everything that could possibly be customized within an application.

Starting a couple of days ago, my 2009 iMac won't sleep. I created another user and when that user is logged in sleep is working fine. This leads me to suspect that some of the user settings are clobbered and I need to reset them to get things normal again without having to reload the system. Can someone tell me what files I need to trash to get my user settings wiped out? Alternatively I could always do a fresh reload of the system and then just recover my last Time Machine backup of my applications but NOT recover my settings.

I have created user accounts on my iMac for each of my kids. Whenever we try to login to my daughter's account, we see the standard 'galaxy' background, then a flash of gray, then the background again and then that process repeats over and over. The DVD Player app is running, but I cannot figure out a way to kill it or get out of the endless loop. Everytime she logs in, I end up having to hold the button on the back of the computer to shut it off, then restart everything.
Is there a way to sign in to her account without having all the applications launched that were running when she signed out? I think that might be the first step to fixing everything, but I can't figure out how to do that. Is there a preferences file I can kill? Or are there aliases in a folder somewhere that contain the items to be relaunched at startup? Her account is managed under parental controls.

Recently I lost my admin identity password and consequently I was unable to trash applications or any file requiring the admin password. And so I reset this by reinstalling the setup (this is a bit of a hack I learned about through Youtube). After rebooting the system I was asked to create a new admin which I did and then I was asked whether I wanted to transfer the data � I answered no to this option.
All my data (files, folders, photos, music, etc. now resides in an identity called Main User. How do I import all this material into my new admin identity or manage this such that all the preferences, bookmarks, Microsoft email user identity and all privileges are restored to how they were before?
I have installed Parallels to run an embroidery software (Floriani) on my MacBook Air. Both Parallels and the Floriani are running fine and I can see my windows formatted external hard drive when in Floriani and can bring in files from it. But when I try to save a redesigned embroidery file to the external hard drive it tells me I can not because I do not have administrative rights. I have tried to also tried to copy embroidery files downloaded from the internet to my Macbook and get the same message. Since I am the administrator (and only user) of this laptop, how can I get access to the hard drive. I tried following the all the suggestions in the Help Center for setting permission but even though I can set the drive as a "shared" file I cannot see the "lock'" icon referred to and in the "Sharing and Permissions" it still says I can only read.Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedI forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.

We are experiencing an issue where our enterprise Mac machines running Mavericks (10.9.1 to 10.9.3) where accounts set with administrative privileges are somehow getting reset to standard privileges. When this occurs we are unable to administer the machine and even attempting to log in with root is unavailable. Our only recourse has been to reimage the machine. Â

I don't remember ever having this problem since Keychain first appeared. About a week ago I changed my login password and now when I attempt to look at any of my Keychain passwords my computer prompts me to enter my Keychain password (which is my OLD login password) rather than allowing me to enter my new administrative login password. I don't want to have to remember two passwords when only a week ago I only ever had to enter my one current administrative password to authorize Keychain Access to allow me to look at any of my numerous passwords in its window pane. How can I get it to only require me to enter my one new/current adminstrative password? I know that my Mac is technically a multi-user system, but it offends me mightily to have to give administrative rights to programs from Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc when they should clearly be able to function in a single-user install available only to my userid.Â
I can see where firewall software and maybe stuff like vmware needs it but there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason for letting nearly every software company on the planet have super user access to my filesystem. Once I give them such rights its trivial for them to set up a set-uid permission as root on some little executable tucked away in their install.Â
Any way to force software to just install in your own userspace? Is there some type of jail/chroot I could set up to protect my system from these programs?

So here is my issue. I want to transfer all my personal data from my HOME user account on my MacBook to a NEW user account on the SAME MacBook.
