does anyone know how to disable downloads from Safari 4? The reason is that the hotel that i am doing my internship had recently set up 2 iMacs and wants to prevent downloads so that guests dont download anything that can cause the system to go haywire.
View 2 Replies View Related im having a problem with really slow download speeds on utorrent.ive only just started using my mac for downloading torrents since my PC died, and im only getting about 6kbs from anything i try to download, my PC was connected to my router (BT Home Hub) through an ethernet cable, and it worked fine, so all i can think of its my Airport blocking access to Utorrent.
i read up on something called port fowarding, but i want to be sure about what im doing before i start poking around my mac
downloadied fonts yesterday and now my mac is running really slow!!!!! and Sims 3 wont quit so i cant turn it off!

Slow browser speed on all browsers, but the downloading and uploading speed are normal according to speedtest.net. Ping is a bit high. Other computers in the house are fine.Already contacted ISP (Time Warner), modem is not the problem. Contacted Linksys router support, router is fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know whats going on. My SU was working fine until i noticed last night when I went to download iTunes 9.2, the downloading speed was real slow....like an hour or more on the timer. I tried multiple times then went to bed. internet connection is fine because today I've been downloading stuff on my other computer and just used software update to download iTunes on this machine that has both my Tiger partition and an SL partition, and it downloaded fine on that. However, I tried downloading some software app from apple directly form their website and the speed is fine. And now also, trying to download iTunes from the updater aborts about halfway saying it can't be verified or corrupted. I don't get it. what the heck could be wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast night, I downloaded Parallels onto my computer and everything was fine. I then downloaded the Windows 7 files from the Microsoft Store and the download speed was excellent -- took about 30 minutes to download ~300 GB of files. After attempting to click on these files to open them, they wouldn't open, and I realized that I should have purchased through the Parallels online store.
Shortly after this, I realized that my Internet speed was very slow, maybe 2-3 KB/sec. I uninstalled Parallels and cleared the Windows files from the Downloads screen, but Internet was still slow. Installing Windows can wait for another time (and maybe I'll just use Boot Camp instead). For now, all I want is to get my fast Internet speed back.

I need to find a better download management application than Speed Download. Whenever I run speed, and download more than one file at a time, my memory usage skyrockets and maxes out. System runs VERY sluggish, and i basically can't use my MBP until downloads are done.
i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!

I ordered OSX 10.7 (Lion) from the app store and pushed the download button. I see that it is trying to download over in the dock, but nothing happens. Even if I leave it downloading for 2 hours. I have a MacBook, currently running OSX 10.6.8.

I was able to disable the camera while using the original operating system. I upgraded to Lion so I can use I cloud and while in a meeting for work today I got called out for having my camera on. Does anyone know how to disable this? I don't use the camera for anything so I don't care if it will be permanently disabled.

My right Shift Key is acting as a keyboard shortcut to show the desktop. Any time it is pressed, it shows the desktop (not even having to push cmd-shift or some other variation). I've restored keyboard shortcuts to defaults, repaired permissions, and restarted my computer several times. Nothing works. I'm not sure if this was something I did in Snow Leopard a while back that now can't disable in Lion?
