View 1 Replies View RelatedI like to have the application dock auto hide on my mac book pro, but I also have a couple applications that require me to click near the bottom of the window. Is it possible to temporarily disable the dock from appearing while I move the mouse near the bottom of the screen, perhaps like it's possible to disable the magnification with one of the modifier buttons?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've used the dock for a very long time, but once I found DragThing, I fell in love, even more when I started using Witch for window management. But I have DragThing docks on all four sides of my desktop, and I hate the apple dock bouncing on me when I go to the side I left it. So, is there a way to disable the apple dock completely?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm the computer teacher at a school and I'm trying to lock down the computers somewhat so that the kids don't mess with settings. When they inevitably do, I waste time restoring them to normal so that other kids aren't confused.
I've used software like TinkerTool and Deeper to prevent modifications to the dock icons. The main accounts used by the students are parental controlled so that they can't access System Preferences. I turned Dock Hiding off in there. However, they can still click on the option area (the lines) in the dock and turn it back on there. I know it doesn't seem like too big a deal, but when the older kids do this and a 1st grader sits down, they get confused and have to ask for help. If a dozen ask for help, it wastes time in class.
So is there a way to disable the ability to have that option available? I'd actually like to get rid of of the Hide, Magnification, and Position options in that little menu.
I have a Intel Mini Core 2 Duo (1.8x Ghz)I broke the bluetooth antennae connector inside the case while upgrading the memory. My BT keyboard and mouse continues to work, but only with the case open, and when they are very close to the computer.I have located a replacment bluetooth board, but before I spent any mulah to fix the problem, I am wondering if it would be possible to just use a Dlink BT 120 USB device that I already own. From what I can tell this particular device is one of a few that will specifically work with Macs. In reading it sounds like it should work without any needed drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a VGA HP monitor that runs at a native resolution of 1680x1050 at 60Hz. I plugged the Mini in, some weird resolution came up. 1680x1050 didn't show up in "Displays". I downloaded SwitchResX, and set it to 1680x1050 at 60Hz.The resolution is now set, but the monitor is very blurry, and the dock extends beyond the bottom of the screen.I really want to get this working. I'm not quite sure how SwitchResX works so could anybody give me a hand?

My right Shift Key is acting as a keyboard shortcut to show the desktop. Any time it is pressed, it shows the desktop (not even having to push cmd-shift or some other variation). I've restored keyboard shortcuts to defaults, repaired permissions, and restarted my computer several times. Nothing works. I'm not sure if this was something I did in Snow Leopard a while back that now can't disable in Lion?

This problem happens when I'm working between several applications at a time. I'm actively working in the current app when OSX automatically pulls me out and shows me something in a background app that suddenly requires attention, like a dialog box. Quite often I open or save files while working on something else, ususally in fullscreen mode. Moments later, I'm disruptively switched to a file that just opened in another application, or I'm told that something was saved, updated, installed, etc. This automatic switch interrupts my typing or commands in the app I was currently engaging, and has become a major problem.Â
Is there a way to keep OSX from pulling me out of my current application?

View 2 Replies View RelatedRestarting my mac after a crash in Lion (of which there are many) takes an extemely long time. This is most likely due to restoring all applications/docs/etc after a crash to the state just prior to crashing- a new feature in Lion. Is there any way to disable this feature?

In fullscreen preview, when I select the second or third view from the left ("thumbnails" or "table of contents") the document leaves space for the sidebar to appear. The issue comes whenever I switch from the app. Once I come back, the sidebar autohides leaving the linen background where the sidebar once was. What's the point in leaving that unocupied space if the sidebar is going to autohide? How do I disable autohide sidebar in the "thumbnails" and "table of contents" view?
