I have a large dataset in Excel that I have to do a multiple find/replace in (changing USPS state abbreviations to their full names). In searching the Microsoft boards--I was directed to use Applescript, and even the documented help with Excel was recommeding this. Unfortunately, there wasn't much help potinting me in the specific direction I needed.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to automatically convert Excel files to PDFs using Automator. Although, every time the Excel file is opened, I get a message about links to other workbooks. I really don't care about these links and just want to convert the file to a PDF. I just can't get Automator to press the "Ignore links" button on the Excel message.Now I've found out that pressing the escape key on my keyboard activates the following buttons on the Excel message about the links:
- "Update links" (then there's a Finder window popping up)
- "Cancel" (the search for other workbooks) (another Finder window pops up)
- "Cancel" again
Then Excel opens up the file I need to convert, so I can actually convert it using Automator and do whatever I want with it.I have absolutely no experience using AppleScript.Is there a way to make a AppleScript that presses the escape key three times, so that Excel just opens my file?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a script that Jacques Rioux kindly helped me out with a couple days ago. I altered his script a little to complete a different task I needed to create a shortcut for. The script below first creates two folders (TIFF & JPEG) and then it sorts files with an extension .tif into the 'TIFF' folder and files with the extension .jpg into the folder named 'JPEG'. This works great but I would like the script to effect multiple folders. Can anyone help me add to the script so when you click it, a prompt will pop up allowing you to choose multiple folders to apply the script too? As of now it will only work on one folder at a time.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently using excel 08 and have made a workbook with multiple worksheets in it. Each worksheet contains information on multiple products, such as description, UPC, cost, retail, sale cost, sale retail, how many items sold during sale, etc. Sales are two weeks, so every two weeks, I add a new worksheet with new information for sales I will be running a few weeks down the road. I would like to see if there is a way that I can have excel look through the past worksheets so when I enter a UPC into the new worksheet, there would be a column at the end that would take the average items sold during past sales.
For example, if I want to put UPC 1234500000 on sale in the new worksheet, that excel would look at past times I had 1234500000 on sale and take the average of how many sold during past sales and enter that number in a cell on the new worksheet. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but Column D is where I enter UPC info, Column P is where I put how many sold, and Column Q is where I want this average sold to appear (no matter what worksheet).
In Windows I use <alt><enter>, but that doesn't work on my MacBook.

I want to find and replace all the text in Word documents I create, including the footnotes, headers, and footers, but the 'Find and Replace Text in Word Documents' Automator action will only find and replace in the main body. This severely limits its functionality. Is there any way I can get round this?

How do you do a Find and Replace in Pages when you want to change the color of the font. For example, for every instance of the word Apple, you change it to BOLD and in RED. Changing the style is no problem but changing the color is. You can do this easily in Microsoft Word.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to convert a whole slew of telephone numbers in Address Book to make them Skype compliant. There are a variety of find-replace patterns I want to use. One example is an area code in parentheses. For example, I want to change (215) to +1 215. There are thousands of numbers in my address book to change, and manually is not an option. Address Book doesn't have any way to do this on its own. I checked out Automator but it doesn't have many useful Address Book functions. I dug around for a bit online for an AppleScript that would just go straight to editing the AddressBook.data file, but didn't find anything.
I tried to edit the AddressBook.data file myself using TextWrangler, but when I saved it, AddressBook.data's icon changed from a blank file icon to a plain text file icon and Address Book stalled out while opening, necessitating a force quit. So I reverted to my back up and am no closer to solving the problem. Is there a way to do a find-replace or a batch change in Address Book, whetever via AppleScript or otherwise? If not, how can I edit AddressBook.data and save it without it become a text file that Address Book chokes on?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFairly simple, I've added an automatic contents page to my document, but I was hoping to have it use two columns instead of one to conserve space since none of the headings are especially wide. However, when I change the number of columns, it screws up the contents, whatever is used to space out the titles and the page numbers doesn't seem to adjust automatically.
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to do this without manually entering the contents?
I have about 250GB of music in my iTunes Music folder, too much for any of my player devices with the exception of the computer itself. The "iTunes Music" folder is located on an external drive. I want to create multiple libraries to simplify syncing with individual devices, named something like "Nano silver 16", "classic 160", "iPhone", "iPad", etc. I know how to create the new libraries from info at: [URL] Questions:3) Is there a way to switch the "iTunes Music" folder to sort by album, (instead of by artist, then album, which lists each individual song of a compilation (Greatest Hits of...". "soundtrack", "duets..., etc. in separate folders with one song each). Royal pain! 2) How do I populate the individual libraries from my media folder once I have created them? I can't find any info to do this. Am I right that these just reference the real files, and don't duplicate them in a new location/folder? I don't want to increase the space taken up by new library files. 3) Where should all of the library files live to make it easy to find and switch from one to another?
