copying DVD's. When I had a PC, I used to use DVD shrink to convert large Dual layer DVDs down to sizes that would fit on a single layer DVD. I downloaded mac the ripper and it works, but it does not downsize DVD's.

Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...
Ever since I updated my '10 Mac Pro to Lion (months ago), my original built in superdrive will not read any DVD's or CD's, commercial or not, that have data on them... It simply assumes the disk is blank when it clearly isn't. Now, if I insert a blank DVD and burn it, it works like a charm... but it will then NOT read the disk that it just burned??? How and why did Lion break my superdrive?

I held back from upgrading to LION, but recently installed it in a partition on my MacBook Pro (15 inch, late 2008). The OS is now updated to Lion 10.7.3.Since the instation and upgrade some of my video DVDs are not playing. My DVDs are all Region 2 PAL. I'm based in London, England.Specifically, my Shaun the Sheep collection are not being detected or mounting in the superdrive. Other DVDs are unaffected and play just fine.
I've a second partition on the hard drive with Snow Leopard installed, but when I tried the DVDS on that they no longer worked either though had previously been fine on that OS.Should I stop thiinking of playing them on the MacBook Pro?

I have been using Macs since 1992, upgrading to new operating systems as they came out. Now have Lion 10.7.3. I have recorded video/movie clips mostly from online sources. I have never had problems playing these back until now in all my previous Macs. Now some will play, others when I click the play button come up with the message "supported disc not available". Do I have to buy an old Mac computer with earlier OSX operating systems to play these again? How can I transfer the content to a form that Lion will recognize if they will not open.

How can I run AHT on my iMAC 21.5 inch, MID 2011 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)? There were no DVDs in the package, no restart key-stroke combination connected to internet-aht, no aht is included in the package I bought and downloaded from Apstore. One of the 4 rear USB ports seems to be death from the very first moment. I would like to use the AHT to see if this is some SW misconfiguration or is it a HW problem.

I purchased a Mac Mini about 2 months ago and was making DVD backups with a Samsung SE-S084D external drive. The first ones went OK, but now the system suddenly stopped recognizing blank DVDs... the drive reads all other discs unless the ones that are blank. I friend wanted me to update his company's website which runs on a MS Exchange Server/Sharepoint set up. He zipped all the html, jpeg, and assorted text files and attached that zip file to an email. When I received it on my Mac it had been converted to a ".dat" file. He tells me that this is the result of sending a zipped file over the MS Exchange Server mail system to a Mac. (Whatever happened to cross-platform?)Â
Is there a Mac utility I can use to convert this dat file back to a zip file that I then can open on my Mac?

I have recently upgraded my computer from a G4 iMac running Panther to an Intel 21" screen model which runs Lion 10.7.3. I found that neither the Set Up Assistant or Migration Assistant worked as far as transferring the contents of the old system and therefore transferred it manually.Â
Included in the contents transferred were a number of Appleworks spreadsheets which worked in conjunction with a series of Applescripts to produce various types of textile patterns, and another series which analysed stock exchange prices. I have found that basicly none of these work and wonder if there are any programs or compilers which could be used to convert them. I have bought iWorks and both Numbers and Pages do not produce satisfactory results which is somewhat disappointing. The thought of having to learn a new Applescript volcabulary and then rewrite the Scripts is somewhat daunting hence my enquiry.Â

I am unable to eject my iPad from my Mac. I click on the eject icon in iTunes and it appears to be gone but the next time I open iTunes, it's there again. I am unable to to insert discs and cannot copy pictures to my iPhone which, I think, must be because my computer thinks it's still connected to my iPad. I've tried shutting computer down and starting up again and gone to disc utilities. Nothing I've tried so far has worked.
