I recently got a Macbook pro OS X Lion and for the past few months have had problems with trying to run movies on Quicktime 10.1. My videos files are usually .AVI but when I try to click on it quick time opens and then tells me that it can't read the file. I've search the internet for answer and have tried a lot of different solutions that others have had success on (including updating Perian and trying to convert the .AVI file to .MOV) yet I still have had no such luck.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am starting a new thread because I am unable to play mov files in QuickTime X.  This includes previously downloaded movie trailers from apple, mov files downloaded in itunes, mov files filmed on my iPhone or even files created from hd camcorder files. I am alo unable to play embedded QuickTime movies on the apple homepage, or play move trailers such as: [URL]Neither does the "download" option work. However if I force the files to play with QuickTime 7 or vlc, they play fine. If I use Firefox the embedded videos play ok, but in the example of trying to download the movie trailers still doesn't work.Â

I've used to play .sdp files on Quicktime Player 10.0 on Snow Leopard.
After I've updated to Lion, Quictime Player got updated to 10.1 and it no longer recognizes .sdp files. It gives an error message with "Quicktime Player cannot open files in the "OpenOffice.org 1.0 Presentation" format."Â
The same sdp file plays well on Windows version of QuickTime Player, and if I boot to Snow Leopard, it works on QT Player 10.0. Is there a way to fix this problem and let the QuickTime Player recognize the .sdp files again?Â
I wonder if there is anyway to do the following to make using the windows on my Mac even more easy and simple: I have vmware fusion (recent version) installed on my Mac and viewed under "Unity" so the Windows and Mac apps are all viewed on the Mac desktop. What I want to do is to be able to install windows apps ".exe" that are downloaded under Mac directly on windows with just double clicking on the file that is in the Mac platform while vmware is already launched or not yet. I tried some methods like opening files with "exe" extension directly by vmware but that won't work, I don't know what else to try.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust paid for a movie on iTunes, (The Great Escape), but it won't play on my iMac or transfer to my iPad... what gives? When I try to play the movie I get error: "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."When I try to move it to my iPad I get the error: "The Great Escape (1963)" was not copied to the iPad (My iPad) because it cannot be played on this iPad." I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) 64-bit on a brand new iMac 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5 with OSX 10.7.4. I'm a little ticked that I can't see a movie I just paid $9.99 for.Â

Using Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2) on OS X 10.6.8 (Macbook Air) when I click a PDF link, it is downloaded and then I need to double click to open in Preview. However, if I use the nightly build of WebKit [URL] - currently Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2, r121825)” it is opened in the same tab within the browser. I do not have Adobe Reader/Acrobat installed thus do not have the Adobe plugins in the "Internet Plugins" folder (system or user). Does the production build of Safari not have a built-in PDF viewer? Or maybe there is another reason...

Does anyone know if it is possible to download the Software Update files directly from Apple? Back when I used to work on Windows machines, I'd download Service Packs and burn them to CD, so I could avoid the time it took to download them for each individual machine that I set up. I would like to do the same for OS X. After a fresh install, there's always this 600+ MB file that takes forever to download. It would make my setup tasks and disaster recovery much quicker if I had the packages on CD.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to download .dmg files through my browser (for example- when downloading the trial version of iWork on apple.com, or when trying to download the app from this site: http://postbox-inc.com/ ), my screen will usually say "thank you for downloading" or "your download will start momentarily," but the download doesn't start. I have this problem with both Safari and Firefox. Are any of you guys out there experiencing a similar problem? If so, have you been able to fix it?

When I upload a file created in third party apps like Scrivener or Nisus writer on my iMac, I see the file in the finder under iCloud drive in my MacAir, but cannot directly download it. Next to the file name there is a download icon (the same that's used in icloud.com) but clicking on it doesn't do anything. I can't drag the file to my desktop either. I have to go in my browser to icloud.com and download it from there.Â
I thought I can upload and download files just like in Dropbox or Sugarsync, I use both, without having to go the the icloud.com website.Â
I am using the latest version of Yosemite on both machines.
