I frequently use Preview to scan documents using a networked HP scanner.Â
Every time I launch preview to perform some scanning, I find that I must select File->Import from Scanner->Include Networked Devices.Â
I find this mildly annoying. Is there a way that I can get Preview to include networked scanning devices by default?Â

Is there a way to make Mail show messages from the Trash when "include related messages" is turned on? If I have trashed a message and receive a later reply from that conversation, Mail won't show me the previous message. Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe "Eject" button on the MBA is supposed to used when a SuperDrive is connected, to eject the CD/DVD. But to many of us who don't use the SuperDrive, that function is useless and the key is wasted. I am wondering, could we somehow set it to work with other external devices like external hdd, USB drives, etc.? i.e., instead of going right-click on the device and then selecting "Eject ABC" before unplugging, simply click the device (on desktop), then press that little Eject button on your keyboard.

I've managed to get everything up and running with the exception of our scanner which is an Epson Perfection 1640SU.When I push the scan button on the scanner, the computer recognizes the scanner and comes up with a preview. I can make adjustments with the menus but I can not actually push the "scan" button because it is grayed out. I've attached a screenshot so people get an exact idea of what I'm dealing with.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'd love to be able to do something more useful with some of my function keys than the default set-ups of brightening the screen, the keyboard backlight etc.For instance what I'd like would be for F5 and F6 (the keyboard backlight keys) to change the lighting only if combined with shift or the cmd key.And then remap the keys so that, for instance, by pressing F5 I could switch to/open my Mail app [rather than clicking on it in the dock]. Or that simply pressing F6 might open a new compose message window in Mail.I'd happily pay for software that lets me do this kind of thing, if necessary.

I recently experienced a glitch in which my web browser locked during a shutdown operation. I had just changed a browser preference setting to "empty cookies and history" when I quit the browser. I restored the preference to its previous setting and the browser quit locking up. However, I now have a new problem: I can't download .pdf files (maybe others as well but I was able to download an application file successfully). This problem occurs with both Safari and Firefox browsers.I was recently checking the performance of 2 .pdf readers and I am sure I changed the default reader. I cannot remember how to restore Preview to be the default reader. Maybe this will get me back in business.

I have a Brother HL-2270 DW printer setup on my network. I see it as an option to add, but when I select it, it says that the software is available through apple. So it makes me select "install and continue" or "cancel". If i select continue, it works on it and then says it is not able to find the software. So i manually went on to the brother website and downloaded the driver. WHen I go back to add the printer it still wants to go through the apple software databse, and as a result I cannot load the printer.

I'm trying to make it so that my students have the ability to log onto our iMacs (all running Lion) through our Mac Mini Server (also Lion). I recently had to go through drastic changes in order to simply create a directory administrator, yet it still persists. The active directory isn't binded onto the server yet. When I try to bind the my Active Directory with the Mac Mini, I get the following popup after logging in as the Directory Admin:Â

I have some PDF forms that I regularly need to fill out. Since they aren't "real" PDF forms and the document is locked, I need to print to PDF, save as TIFF and then use Preview's annotate feature to mark things up. It works well, but the default font color (red) and default font size (36) are not optimal. And each time I start a new annotation, I need to change back to black and a smaller font size. Is there any way to alter this default?

In Adobe reader->Preferences->internet Display PDF in browser using Adobe Reader (9.3.1) is checked and beyond this I'm not sure what to do to change from preview to reader.
Installing the latest Adobe Reader causes Preview to be overwritten by Reader as the default PDF reader in Safari. There's a setting in Adobe Reader prefs that should aloow one to change the setting, but it is greyed out. You'll need to go to your HD/Library/Internet Plug-in folder and remove the Adobe plug-ins. Quit and restart Safari, then Preview is default again.
