OS X Mavericks :: Changing Default Settings Of Preview Annotations
Aug 29, 2014I would like to change the default text substitution settings for my annotations in Preview. Specifically, I want to disable smart quotation substitutions in my notes. I often copy-paste them into Word files, and I want them free of this reformatting. I know how to disable quotation mark substitution in a given pdf, but I would really like to disable this feature for all pdfs by default.

May 8, 2012I use Preview to read pdf files for my study, and use the annotations because they are great and versatile. But I just noticed that some old ones have started to fade! Since I'm not interessted in them disappearing before the exam, how can I stop them from fading/changing color? Will they ever fade to the point where I can't read them anymore?Â

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Default Website Not Showing
Mar 1, 2012Just upgraded a Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server 10.7.3 and the Web Service works along with all of my virtual hosts BUT the default site that shows isn't the one that Server.app says should show, its the first virtual host that shows.
I've tried adding "ServerName myserver.mydomain.com" params into the 0000_any_80_.conf which hasn't worked. Anyone know a workaround for this? Can't use the Wiki or Webmail without it.

Dec 27, 2010I want to change the default finder toolbar icons (back, forward, path and view icons, search, etc), does anyone know the path location for these? I want to make my own icons in photoshop and manually change them, the same way you'd do with the log on screen or icon I know about the customize toolbar option, but that doesn't allow you to change the icons, just to arrange them.

Sep 4, 2009Just installed Snow Leopard (10.6) a few days ago, and most things are working as expected. However, I find that when I customize the Safari (4.03) toolbar, it will remain in that form until I quit. But when I open Safari again, the customized toolbar appears for a few seconds, and then reverts to the default. Very frustrating, as I have to customize it each time I open it in order to use buttons that have vanished. Firefox (ew) is fine, by the way.

Im running OSx 10.6.8 with safari 5.0.5.I was able to install it again using the install disk and checked for any software updates but it still is not showing up in my toolbar.I searched and tried the view/customize to drag the default set to toolbar, made sure show toolbar is selected etc, but still no middle section of toolbar.When I would try to drag the default set to toolbar nothing happens. The toolbar area is being shown, with the left and right arrows (on the left) and the Google search window shows (on the right), but the center white window to type web address' is not.Â

Apr 18, 2012I recently experienced a glitch in which my web browser locked during a shutdown operation. I had just changed a browser preference setting to "empty cookies and history" when I quit the browser. I restored the preference to its previous setting and the browser quit locking up. However, I now have a new problem: I can't download .pdf files (maybe others as well but I was able to download an application file successfully). This problem occurs with both Safari and Firefox browsers.I was recently checking the performance of 2 .pdf readers and I am sure I changed the default reader. I cannot remember how to restore Preview to be the default reader. Maybe this will get me back in business.

Since they aren't "real" PDF forms and the document is locked, I need to print to PDF, save as TIFF and then use Preview's annotate feature to mark things up. It works well, but the default font color (red) and default font size (36) are not optimal. And each time I start a new annotation, I need to change back to black and a smaller font size. Apr 18, 2012Installing the latest Adobe Reader causes Preview to be overwritten by Reader as the default PDF reader in Safari. There's a setting in Adobe Reader prefs that should aloow one to change the setting, but it is greyed out. You'll need to go to your HD/Library/Internet Plug-in folder and remove the Adobe plug-ins. Quit and restart Safari, then Preview is default again.

Feb 3, 2009I have create an iMovie project with iMovie 08. On the project window I could see my pictures as I have imported, in the perfect order and with the correct orientation. I just installed iLife09 and I opened the project on iMovie09. The project window shows pictures in a random order, the orientation of some pictures are wrong (upside down, portrait etc). But to my surprise if I play the video or move the mouse over the pictures it shows the correct picture on the preview window.

Jul 14, 2009I don't know when this started happening, but all of a sudden in coverflow all the images display as their file type icon, not the preview of the image, which defeats the purpose of coverflow. Anyone know how this happened and how to switch it back?
Incidentally, all the icons show for Xee, the image browsing app, which I'm using only because Preview is being a jerk and constantly displaying itself in my secondary monitor, which I keep off most of the time (it's a wacom cintiq, and it's distracting to have turned on when not in use). If I can somehow fix this all by fixing preview and getting rid of Xee, I certainly would.
