OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mountain Compatibility With Early Mac Books?
Jun 12, 2012
I'm looking at buying a used MacBook, MB403LL/A. Release year 2008. This is a core 2 duo machine, and it has 4G RAM. On the apple site, it says that compatible MacBooks are: MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) So, would the machine above be compatible with Mountain Lion? It appears not. What would be the hardware change between 2008 and 2009 that would make it unsupported? Could it be that some MacBooks released in 2008 are not core 2 duo (perhaps just core duo) and thus cannot be upgraded, and the directive from Apple above is simplified. meaning that yes, a 2008 core 2 duo would be able to take the upgrade to Mountain Lion?Â

Though the Apple website says its incompatible, can it be installed in some way? If not, then will there be an update for Notification Centre and other new features for Lion?

I had reinstalled the OSX on my MBP a few times so I am not unfamiliar with the process of rebooting from the boot menu, formatting via the disk utility and then reinstalling either via a backup or from the internet backup (as the retina does not have a dvd drive). Doing it this time and I did nothing different, however upon entering the disk utility screen, the main disk image simply wasn't there. I was conducting a reinstall of OSX from the internet and had already downloaded the new software, as you have to do when installing from the internet.
I then came to the disk utility screen, ready to reformat the hard drive and it simply wasn't there at all. The only image there was the one I had just downloaded ready to install. Thinking this extremely strange, I reboot the computer and it takes ages, then comes to a screen with a continually flashing folder symbol with a question mark in it. I have left it like this for 30 mins with no change. So now, I cannot boot normally, and I cannot reinstall a downloaded image on the main SSD because it is not showing at all in the disk utility. I have plugged in an external hard drive and am currently installing a new image on this to try to check where the main hard drive is once it is up and running. As mentioned, it is an early 2013 MBP retina, the warranty is up so cannot take it back to apple.

Does anyone know which 17" LCD panels from the G5 iMac can be swapped with the Early 2006 Duo Core 17" iMac? My "speculation" is that the 17" G5 iSight equiped iMacs are a likely candidate.

I have loved being a Mac owner since 2008...UNTIL now. WHO can educate me on the compatibility of Lion with the following (I currently have a 2G 2008 MacBook with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard)
- 2008 MS Office for Mac (Word, PPT, Excel)
- Have many old files in MS 2004 and even 2002. What will happen with these when I am on Lion?Â
With this move to Lion/the Cloud, I cannot get a straight story from Apple on compatibility of Lion with MS products (Word, Excel, PPT.). Totally different scenario when I was a PC CONVERT. Apple sales people could tell me all that I needed to know to move from PC to Mac. A little bait and switch now that I am on board.

I have a 2011 early mbp. Ive never had any issues with and and I upgraded to Lion when it came out. About 4 days ago it just would not boot into Lion at all. Would get stuck at the Apple Picture and the circle thing and thats it. I tried to boot the recovery partition and it would still get stuck at the same spot. I took out my hard drive and connected it Via USB on my iMac and it boots up just fine. I than used the recovery from the iMac and reinstalled Lion on the mbp hard drive. I put the hard drive back and it still wont boot up.

I have a Macbook Pro, early 2010, 13-inch, which I upgraded to 8GB RAM and a 750GB hard drive. It is currently running OSX Lion (all updates applied) but at times it will just freeze and Lion will not respond. The strange thing is that during this time the mouse still works and I can move the cursor around it is just that the OS does not respond so obviously I cannot click anything to shutdown or restart and all I can do it turn my MBP off and then on again.Â

This is my first post here I hope somone can help me. I have a MBP from 2008 I upgraded to Lion about a month ago and had some minor issues right away, but now I can't get past the boot screen without a kernel panic. I did a time machine restore to one of my external drives and it boots up fine. I figured my internal drive was going bad so I installed a new one yesterday and the exact same Kernel Panic happens. I don't live in a city with an apple store so that isn't an option for me. I am contemplating going all the way back to leopard because the was the last os I can remember that was completely stable for me.

I've made the update to 10.7.4 last week and since then my MBP doesn't want to shutdown. I tried a few times, waiting for half an hour, but the result was the same. Also, the startup is slower than usual.

I have a Early 2008 Mac Pro running Lion. Its been running well but then last night it froze while I was on the internet. Pretty rare that this happens so I held the power off button and turned it off. Turned it back on and it made the chime noise, apple logo came up, a grey spinning wheel came up for about 30 seconds and then it stopped spinning and the computer froze there. Â
I tried a bunch of different things. I tried rebooting in safe mode, Recovery mode, From time machine external hard drive, Tried booting in the Windows partition that I have (its on the same as the boot drive I'm trying to boot in Lion off of). Â

After the disaster getting Quicken for Mac 2007 (or earlier) to sort-of work on Lion, has anyone checked if the Lion Compatible Quicken for Mac works on the new Mountain Lion operating system? Even though this isn't an Apple problem, I know I'm not the only person who would love to update to a new Mac; however, they all come with Mountain Lion, and many of us are terrified of losing financial data if there's another

With the impending demise of Mobile Me, I'll be making some changes. In order to utilize the full capabiliteis of new Mobile Me I'd need to upgrade to OS X.I have not yet done so because I have and use FCS 3 and Logic 9, both of which have been reported as having compatibility problems with Lion. I write to ask the status especially of compatibility between Lion and Logic 9. With sadness I understand that FCS 3 will never work with Lion, so I'll also ask of any FCS 3 users who have upgraded: what have you done to be able to work with your video created in FCS 3?

I have received warning from Disk Utility that I should repair permissions as several files show incorrect permissions and, more than that, my 750GB shows "769GB available".Â
1. If I use Command+R and rebuild the disk from a Time Machine backup, will permissions be reset or will the files just be copied as they are now?Â
2. Is there a way to verify the TM backups to check the files therein?Â
3. Suppose, just for the sake of an exercise, that I reload Snow Leopard; can I still use SL's Time Machine to read a Lion Time Machine backup?Â
