I have a Nikon CoolPix P80. Am I correct that this is simply not a sophisticated enough model to require the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Updates? It is never listed.

I have been trying to install (from software update) the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update for weeks now. I am using a Macbook Pro i5, Lion 10.7.4. Each time I run software update, after downloading some amount of KB, I get the following message; "The update 'digital camera raw compatability update can't be installed. The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded & checked again the next time that software update runs."

My friend updated her 13" Black MacBook yesterday, specifically the "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3". After a reboot, she got the Apple "Blue Screen of Death", with no login window showing. Looking at system.log, there's a section that looks to be the culprit (this began after restarting due to the install of the update):

Here are some things I've observed/tried, many from sources via the Internet:
- I'm able to login in single-user mode
- I'm not able to login in Safe Mode (hangs on white screen with Apple logo)
- I've tried booting off the 10.5 install DVD and running Disk Utility - verify/repair disk, this comes back ok. However, if I try to verify/repair permissions, it runs for about 10 - 20 mins then freezes. I let the frozen process run overnight (10-12 hours) and no feedback. I can move the mouse, but I cannot select anything.
- When the laptop is booted and on the blue screen, I can connect to it via AFP
- I've tried manually changing the permissions of "/", by doing - chmod 775 /; chmod 1775 /;
- I've tried removing the com.apple.WindowServer.plist and com.apple.loginscreen.plist files in case they were corrupted by the update
- I tried running the "installer" command to re-install the update package from the command line. I run it with the "verbose" flags, I get no output and the process hangs.
Since I can connect via AFP I figure I'll be backing the data up and re-installing OS X. Pretty lame though, considering this failure was caused by running a Software Update. Anyone have a last minute suggestion for me before I go down that path?I've attached the full system.log.
Let us know when you get an Aperature plugin for this.It is interesting that you have plugins for cameras not readily available yet and nothing for the X-Pro1 when it has been on the street for well over a month.

So far I'm looking at Canon's PowerShot SD790 IS, and their PowerShot A590 IS. Does anyone know if these two cameras are compatible with iPhoto?
I hate to start the subject of this post so negative but Snow Leopard is really disappointing. I have had nothing but problems since I've installed it. My computer runs a million times slower, Firefox takes forever to load pages that once loaded in a snap. My digital camera doesn't sync anymore.

My problem - I have a digital camera that has the ability to take video. When I plug the camera into the computer iPhoto recognizes the pictures but neither iPhoto or iMovie recognize the video. On my Mac running Leopard 10.5, Image Capture has Preferences that allow me to choose an option that opens Image Capture when a USB digital camera is attached. That's gone on my new Mac with Snow Leopard. I never needed camera software to make this work, and unfortunately I have a Canon camera and Canon does not make drivers or software for Snow Leopard. So, how does one get Image Capture to open and download images from a digital camera? Did Apple dumb-down Image Capture like they did to iMovie?

The photos appear (I can see all the photos and files) but I am unable to transfer them or even open them and get information off. As a recent switcher, it would have taken me a second to select the pics, right click, and rename them all in one batch. I was using Adobe's lightroom wich is really nice (free trial) and found it was going to be my picassa replacement (man do i miss that program) and I found that I need a plug in called bridge which only comes with photoshop which I dont have for mac.
