OS X V10.7 Lion :: MS Office Compatibility With It?

Jun 17, 2012

I have loved being a Mac owner since 2008...UNTIL now.  WHO can educate me on the compatibility of Lion with the following (I currently have a 2G 2008 MacBook with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard)

- 2008 MS Office for Mac (Word, PPT, Excel)

- Have many old files in MS 2004 and even 2002.  What will happen with these when I am on Lion?

With this move to Lion/the Cloud, I cannot get a straight story from Apple on compatibility of Lion with MS products (Word, Excel, PPT.).  Totally different scenario when I was a PC CONVERT.  Apple sales people could tell me all that I needed to know to move from PC to Mac.  A little bait and switch now that I am on board.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mountain Compatibility With Early Mac Books?

Jun 12, 2012

I'm looking at buying a used MacBook, MB403LL/A. Release year 2008. This is a core 2 duo machine, and it has 4G RAM. On the apple site, it says that compatible MacBooks are: MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) So, would the machine above be compatible with Mountain Lion? It appears not. What would be the hardware change between 2008 and 2009 that would make it unsupported? Could it be that some MacBooks released in 2008 are not core 2 duo (perhaps just core duo) and thus cannot be upgraded, and the directive from Apple above is simplified. meaning that yes, a 2008 core 2 duo would be able to take the upgrade to Mountain Lion?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: What Is Current Status Of Compatibility Of OS X With Logic 9 & Final Cut Studio 3

May 31, 2012

With the impending demise of Mobile Me, I'll be making some changes. In order to utilize the full capabiliteis of new Mobile Me I'd need to upgrade to OS X.I have not yet done so because I have and use FCS 3 and Logic 9, both of which have been reported as having compatibility problems with Lion. I write to ask the status  especially of compatibility between Lion and Logic 9. With sadness I understand that FCS 3 will never work with Lion, so I'll also ask of any FCS 3 users who have upgraded: what have you done to be able to work with your video created in FCS 3?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine And Disk Permissions + Compatibility With Snow Leopard?

Jun 29, 2012

I have received warning from Disk Utility that I should repair permissions as several files show incorrect permissions and, more than that, my 750GB shows "769GB available".

1. If I use Command+R and rebuild the disk from a Time Machine backup, will permissions be reset or will the files just be copied as they are now?

2. Is there a way to verify the TM backups to check the files therein?

3. Suppose, just for the sake of an exercise, that I reload Snow Leopard; can I still use SL's Time Machine to read a Lion Time Machine backup?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail 'check For New Messages' Despite It Being Set To 'manual'?

May 1, 2012

I want to only receive new email either once per hour or better still manually (once or twice during the day at a time chosen by me). That way I won't be bombarded with emails all day and can get on with my work.

So, I set the 'check for new messages' to 'manually'. Nevertheless I get email coming in frequently. Possibly every time I send an email, it also checks for new incoming mail (I'm not sure but that's my hunch).

How can I stop Mail from pulling in my new incoming email? Any answers to this? If I can't figure this out or it's not possible in Apple Mail, it might be time to switch (but I don't want to!)

It was purchased brand new. I used it for one hour yesterday, run the set up, install updates. thats all I have done with it. Today I awake to it presenting a loading bar of some sort under the Apple logo and Spinning wheel. I researched the bar, and found that it was a progress bar for a disk check, and since it doesnt complete (I let it do its thing) something must be wrong, However when i run disk utility, it can find now error in the disk. but my sound and video play pack does not work unless i restart the machine. this seems like an unessecary process. what are the possible causes?
