Does anyone know if there is an app, a hack or a way to pile similar apps on the dock as it is possible in Launchpad or on an iPhone? This would really save space on my Dock. Also how can we suggest such an enhancement to Apple?
I have just dual booted Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using bootcamp. I love how on OSX you can exit out of programs and windows and the app does not close till u manually close it, or right click and exit. Windows 7 does not do this... Is there a way i can set Win7 to do this (3rd party program?).
For work & personal use I currently do everything from my Macbook Pro (w/ the Lion OS). In the near future I will be upgrading to an iPhone so I am considering plunging deeper into the Apple Ecosytem and moving over to iCloud.I mostly do all my email/calendar adjustments from my desktop using Mail & iCal. However, if I am not near my computer and at a different desktop I would prefer logging into icloud online to view everything (both work and personal). Is this possible or will I only be able to view my personal icloud info?
Ever since I've been using Lion (came pre-installed on my MacBook Air), I've noticed that the top icons in stacks do not update unless the Dock is restarted (with a "killall Dock" from the Terminal, or by logging out/restarting, etc). This happens for absolutely any folder that is added to the Dock as a stack. When a new file is added to the folder, the stack simply shows a generic white file icon on top. Once the Dock is restarted, the stack will show the proper preview as it should.
So far I've tried deleting and re-creating stacks, repairing permissions from Disk Utility, reseting ACLs on the home folder, and even deleting the caches and .plist files for the Dock, Quick Look, and Finder. Nothing has made a difference.
i was tinkering with it, osx lion, i came upon audio midi setup. i was trying to get it off the dock y making it poof in the desktop but it didnt it just sat there, somehow through my frustration there was an audio midi setup 2 now i got one in stacks and poofed it the other sent to the trash and now i cant find stacks in the finder, only the file named about stacks, through my frustration looking for stacks i thought to open audio midi setup again , and again got stuck with a file named audio midi setup.zip, so now i lost stacks wont come up in finder, and have audio midi setup , audio midi setup 2 and audio midi setup zip sitiing in my trash , what will happen if i delete these files, and i want my stacks back,...help please google has been nothing but a run around and some help but i dont have leapord and most support is for that, i have lion?

My 100G space came up as full last night so I freed up about 15g. space, but now today I notice it is going way slow, taking forever to open or show data in files - eg if I click on the master application folder - the names of indiv. folders show but file content on right doesn't come up until about 30 secs, and the computer itself is making all sorts of whirring/clicking type sounds which i called "thinking" but it's as if the memory is still full and is operating at half it's speed.
I have a 2.16 GHz intel core duo processor, and memory is 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
Get info shows: Capacity of 99.69GB, avail is 14.11 GB
Any tips on what has happened since last night to today? I thought it would be running faster and accessing files really easily.
I just got a pop up saying: Your iDisk is unavailable. Make sure you are logged in to your MObile ME acct, then try again to access your iDisk.
COuld this be the problem? I've never seen this before. What is my iDisk, and what does it do?
Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?
I want to make some rules for some emails that I get. Let's say I get a email when someone resonds to a post I made on a forum and I don't want it in my INBOX. I made a folder for that particular forum. How to I make a rule so that all of those emails from that forum go in that folder instead of my INBOX?
Downloaded Lion install on my iMac. Tried to make copy on thumb drive, but each time I get message "Restore Failure" Could not restore-cannot allocate memory. Using 8GB thumb drive. I have tried 2 times to move the file from my desktop to the thumb-drive and have gotten the same message both times.

For the last couple of days, every minute, my Mac has been making a two-tone beep. I have absolutely no idea why. There are no jumping icons to tell me that a program wants my attention and I have tried closing all my applications, the problem does not go away.

Is there any way to set up Lion so that application windows are individually selectable, and do not trigger the display of all windows for a given application? As a default, when I am working with two word documents open and I select a Firefox window, then return to my primary Word document, the secondary word document appears and covers the Firefox window that I'm working with. I'd like to have the secondary word document stay behind the Firefox window until I need it. I know I could minimize the secondary word doc, but I have a tendancy to forget that minimized windows are open.
I'm working on combining a lot of information from different sources to make a class outline, and I'd love to be able to individually select an application window without triggering the other windows that are open for that application. Is there a way to make this happen in Lion or with a third-party program?

I just copied a very large number of files using Finder and I discovered that some modification dates were changed. For me this wasn't a problem, but it's strange and I don't understand why it happened. I wonder if anyone else has seen a similar behavior. Here are the details:
I have a Mac Pro running under OSX 10.7.4 with 15 GB of RAM and 7 hard disks. The disks details are as follows: Internal 1 is 500 GB and came with the computer. It is my boot drive and has a variety of material. It's about 75% full.
Internal 2 is 1 TB. It has OSX 10.6.8 on it for use as a repair disk if I need to run TechTools against my main drive or if I need to run SpringCleaning. It is about 85% full and contains mainly videos of one type or another.
Internal 3 is 2 TB. It is 98% full and contains mostly .jpg files. This drive has a single root folder with 3-4 levels of subfolders. Some subfolders have as many as 5000 folders in them. The bottom level folders each have anywhere from 20 to 300 files.
Internal 4 is 3 TB. It was purchased last week because drives 2 and 3 are getting full. My intent is to copy drive 3 to 4, then copy the data from 2 to 3. I'll probably retire 2 since my SMART checks are showing problems.
External 1 is 3 TB and is used only for Time Machine to backup internal 1.
External 2 is 4 TB and is used to backup Internal 2 and 3 using ChronoSync. I'll be changing this to 3 and 4 soon.
4 days ago I installed drive 4 and used Finder to copy the root folder from drive 3 to 4. That took about a day. I then ran ChronoSync in Trial Sync mode to see if everything was OK. (Perhaps I shold have used ChronSync to make the transfer.) I discovered that about 8,000 files had discrepancies. I wrote a simple AppleScript to identify any meta data differences between the files on the two drives. It's been running for about 12 hours and I suspect it will take more than a day to finish. So far all that script has found are modification date differences. I've examined about a dozen of the files and they look OK.
Anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas what happened? I have three user accounts on this Mac Pro. The copy was made in one account with nothing else running, but I was doing a variety of work in another account. The third account was not active. I just did a better search of this forum and discovered a similar case from 2010.
After upgrading to Lion (10.7.3) it started this anoying beep sound that is almost unbearable. Also, I upgraded to Lion so that my Mac could run faster, but I am more disappointed now!
Is it possible to have Time Machine overwrite an existing backup instead of making excessive new backups? If not, is there a way to control when Time Machine preforms its backup task so as to not make excessive backups?

I was just playing around with stacks and I found out that if you hold shift and click on a stack it springs up VERY slow, kind of cool looking the first time you do it, kind of stupid after that lol.
I've noticed recently some odd behavior regarding google chrome and my download stacks in the dock. I have my download stacks folder set so that the most current downloaded object shows up as a preview (ex. if its a pdf a photo of the pdf appears).
However recently I've noticed that when i download some .rar files or mp3's, the preview in the stacks icon is just a blank text document. its not until i click the stack and it fans out that i see that a preview of my downloaded file (ex. mp3 will show its album art).
when i click the stack again and the items fan back into the stack, the preview once again turns back into a blank document image instead of the corresponding mp3 image.
Right now, in my Stacks area I have my Firefox Downloads, Music, Movies, Pictures, and Documents. Most of them have a folder as the first item, so unless I mouse over them, I don't know which one is which. I had those folders have different icons in Tiger, but I'm not sure how to go about changing them now.
I'm really not sure if this is some stupid thing I'm missing, but I've never been able to choose 'Fan' view for any of my stacks, I only have List or Grid! I've tried it for all different sized folders, and I can't think why it's not there.
I got the latest version of Imac OS X Leopard, Whatever. I just got my Imac and i saw stacks in the start. I was stupid so i delete documents and downloads from stacks and now i cant find stacks on my dock! Is there any way i can put stacks on my dock or add something to stacks? or do i have to download it or something? Pretty much, I cant add any Folders or files to the dock. But i can add apps to the dock.
my stacks have started displaying backwards in other words, rather than showing me the most recently added item first, it puts it last; when the stack expands, the open in finder option is at the top of the screen, with the most recently added item at the bottom. Instead of the other way around, which is the default. How do I change it back?
My stacks have disappeared from my dock. I used to automatically get my downloads on the dock and they fanned out when I clicked on it. That is gone now... not sure if I did something to get rid of it, but I want it back.
I love the new stacks in snow leopard but sometimes I find myself wanting to space bar to preview etc and I can't so I want to quickly launch the finder into that folder. Is there a way? ie a hotkey and a click etc.
