May 19, 2012Two of my six mailboxes were duplicated after the update, so I deleted the duplicates in mail preferences.However, the original mailboxes then lost all email content and showed only the headers, so I rebuilt them both and hey presto - instantly lost the entire contents of both mailboxes, including headers. Any ideas for recovering? Have tried hosting server but emails have also gone from there.

Is there a nice, easy way to transfer all data from Outlook Express (including all old emails stored on the computer) to a Mac? Broadening the scope a little more, is there anything I should know before I start backing up all of her files? Is there an easy way to go about moving everything from "My Documents" to the home folder on the Mac? I will have both computers on a home network as I'm doing this to make sure everything I'm doing is working as I'm doing it.

May 10, 2012Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted. Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.
I downloaded Lion from the Apple store, but have my Snow Leopard disk. How do I go about re-installing Mail?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Transferring User From HDD To SSD Boot Drive?
Apr 3, 2012So I'm having problems with my setup, and looking to find a possible remedy. I have setup my Mac with a 120G SSD in my main drive bay, and moved my 750G HHD to an optibay setup. I booted off a USB copy of lion to install it on the SSD, used migration assistant to move my things over.
So currently it boots off the SSD (named Boot Drive), has a "boot user" with its home folder on the SSD, and has my old user (lets call it "olduser") on the orignal drive HDD (called Optibay) and I created a new user when logged into the "boot user" with the same name "olduser", and moved its home directory to the old HDD path, /Volumes/Optibay/Users/Olduser. Then I deleted everything except the user folder on the HDD.
BUT, I'm having spin up issues, and constant read/write on the HDD in the optibay even on the boot user, and at times it shouldn't be. I have moved my files around enough that I can now fit the "olduser" onto the SSD, (moved the contents of Movies, Pictures, Documents, and Music folders into new folders @ /Volumes/Optibay/Myfolders).
So how do I move the home folder/user from the HDD to the SSD. I can't quite figure out the best way to do it with preserving all my settings and everything that is at the root level on the HDD to the SSD. Trying to preserve permissions seems to be the biggest issue. Should I be logged into "olderuser" and copy the user folder onto the SSD, then login to the boot user and just change the home directory path to the new one? Or should I be logged onto boot user when I make the move? The end goal is to make the optibay drive ejectable while running on my olduser account so I can get it to spin down

Intel Mac :: Transferring Files Between Lion And Leopard?
May 2, 2012Our two computers running Leopard can transfer files across our home network to all other computers with no problems, and can grab files from other computers with no problems. Our new iMac Lion can't do any of that. The long: We have recently purchased a new iMac (Lion 10.7.3), and have connected our old 2006 iMac (Leopard 10.5.8) to the TV and stereo (and directly to our B/G/N Airport Extreme) for use primarily as a media server. We also have an MBP (Leopard 10.5.8). All three computers are shared on a home network, and I believe I have set up the sharing and permissions correctly.
From both Leopard computers I can transfer files back and forth, as well as access files on the other and bring them over. Additonally, from both Leopard computers I can do the same while accessing the iMac Lion- either transfer files to it, or connect to it and bring files over. This is what leads me to believe that the sharing is set up correctly. However, when I am on the iMac Lion and try to do any of these processes with either of the Leopards, I get a confusing set of steps and ultimately, failure.
First, I when I try to transfer or copy a file I get a window asking: Finder wants to make changes. type your password to allow this. It automatically fills in the admin username for the iMac Lion. While it is waiting for me to enter the password, a progress bar pops up stating that it is "Preparing to copy to "(Location)", and then I enter the password. As soon as I enter the password, a new window tells me that: A newer item named “(filename here)” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you’re moving? (note- this 'file' has just been created, it is the 'newer item', and it contains zero kb of information). and gives me three options: Keep both files, Stop, or Replace If I choose Keep both files it immediately begins duplicating the empty version of the file and it will make thousands of duplicates in mere seconds. I must kill Finder in order to make it stop.
If I choose Stop the process simply quits. If I choose Replace it says The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “” already exists. (the quotation marks are exactly like that with no filename inbetween). Summary: I am at a loss as to how to proceed. I cannot seem to find why the iMac Lion cannot do anything to the Leopards, while the Leopards seem to have full abilities, even with the Lion. I have tried turning off AFP and turning on SMB to no avail. It is incredibly helpful to be able to share files between our systems, as the iMac Leopard has PPC programs that I cannot install or run on Lion, and so I keep them around in case I need them. Plus, my wife uses the MBP Leopard for specialized research and many of the programs they use do not run with Lion.

Mar 24, 2012"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available.This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Isn't IMac Transferring Files Over Network At Wireless-n Speeds
Jun 2, 2012First of all here's my setup: 30d/4u Charter internet coming in through my Linksys modem, from there to port 1 of my 2006 Intel Xserve running NAT and DHCP, out from port 2 of the Xserve into my AirPort Extreme running in Bridge Mode, and then out to my other devices.
My AirPort setup is as follows: Internet tab-DHCP, address set by Xserve; Wireless tab-Create a wireless network, WPA/WPA 2 Personal; Wireless Options...-5 GHz network name is not checked, Radio mode is set to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g/n (Automatic), both 2.4 and 5 GHz channels are set to Automatic; Network tab-Off (Bridge Mode).
I am transferring 100+ GB of data across the network to my Xserve, but it is only Xferring at 5.5 MB/s, or around 44 Mbps, which isn't even at wireless-g speeds. My iMac is the Mid 2010 27" BTO w/ 2.93 i7 and 8 GB of RAM. It is also wireless-n compatible.The Xserve is wired and they have had gigabit NICs since the G5s.
Things I've tried: In Wireless Options... I tried turning Radio Mode to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g and leaving 5 GHz network name unchecked, but the speeds were down in the 2 MB/s range. Again in Wireless Options... I checked the box for 5 GHz network name, and left Radio Mode in Auto, joined the 5 GHz network on my iMac, tried again, but again only 2 MB/s or less. In Wireless Options... again, I checked the 5 GHz network name box, and set Radio Mode to a/n-b/g, but ocne again, it ran at 2 MB/s or less. The AirPort Extreme is model A1354, which is obviously 802.11n compatible, and the iMac is also 802.11n compatible.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unable To Update Through Software Update
Apr 10, 2012When I try to update my mac i get the following error:
"A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again."
This has been happening for over a week now. Looking at the Console I get the error:
"4/10/12 8:03:54.398 AM Software Update: Error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -3001.) (NSURLErrorDomain code -3001)"
I've verified and repiared disk permissions a couple of times and restarted the system with no success.

Jun 3, 2012Over the past couple of months I have received a whole lot of emails from I guess the .me server saying unable to send due to error. I have never sent these emails, and I dont know the address they were addressed to, I ignored it thinking it would just stop. This morning I can't get my email due to being locked out for security reasons. I was directed to change my password and now alot of emails are showing up with no subject dated 12/31/69. There must be 50 of them, but my inbox only says I have 13 new emails! What the heck is going on? Has my cloud been hacked.

Mar 13, 2012I'm running mail 5.2 on 10.7.3 with imap. I'm having problems with emails not showing up. Or they show up when people send them and then dissapear. They are not being combined in the multiple email from the same user, the new feature of mac mail. They are just not showing up. I can go to my server and see them sitting there. The specific emails today were sent 6 days ago.
Also the folder I created for these emails were not showing up either, even though it was created on the server. This is also after hitting syncronize.
Third, emails from the past for some folders nore not showing up at all. I can go into folders I have with emails from a month to a year ago and they are competely blank even tough I know there are emails in those folders.

Apr 24, 2008I started my Mac mail application today (set to connect to my gmail accounts through IMAP), and all my mail that was in my inbox is GONE. I don't know if my gmail accounts were hacked or if their implementation of "Priority Inbox" just trashed all my messages older than 35 days. I've changed my password and disabled Priority Inbox.
