OS X :: Transferring Emails Onto New Macbook From IMac?
Jul 13, 2009
We have just purchased a Macbook and have had no problems setting up the email accounts and transferring data etc. the only thing we can't figure out is how to get the old emails over into Mail on the new Macbook.
mom recently got a Mac, which I'm about to start setting up for her. She was previously using an XP PC, and her biggest concern in terms of switching is making sure that she still has all her old emails on the computer. Is there a nice, easy way to transfer all data from Outlook Express (including all old emails stored on the computer) to a Mac? Broadening the scope a little more, is there anything I should know before I start backing up all of her files? Is there an easy way to go about moving everything from "My Documents" to the home folder on the Mac? I will have both computers on a home network as I'm doing this to make sure everything I'm doing is working as I'm doing it.
I'm buying a new 21.5 inch iMac tomorrow, and I want to transfer all of my files (.mp3's, .avi's, wallpapers, etc.) from my macbook via firewire.
The problem is that the iMac has a firewire 800 port, and the macbook has a firewire 400 port. If I buy a firewire 400 cable, will it work on the iMac?
I am new here, I joined your forums to ask for some advice! I hope I'm in the right section!
Ok, so I own a MacBook Pro for the past 3 years. The thing is that, since I mix and produce music on a daily basis, I would have liked to have a stationary Mac so I decided to buy an iMac.
I have a lot of softwares installed, along with VSTs, many files, and in general many heavy interface modifications, that involve third-party programs like CandyBar, black menubar, GeekTool etc etc (to make it a more cozy enviroment to work in, 15 hours a day!) so it would be a HUGE hassle to buy the iMac and reinstall everything, I do not physically have the time to do that. Now I read in an Apple article that Time Machine "allows the user to restore the whole system, multiple files, or a single file." So my question is:
So would it be possible to just transfer the whole system to my new iMac, to be basically like opening my MacBook Pro, just like any other day? I'm mostly worried about reinstalling softwares that my college gave me (therefore, I don't have the installation DVDs) or not being able to recognize the licences anymore (I could fix that, but still), and if possible, keeping all modifications I've done on my MacBook Pro.
Would a good 2nd option be to take my MacBook on an Apple Retail Store and maybe they could do it for me? I think, when I asked 2 years ago, they said that they could, but maybe he was referring that they could just backup my files, I don't really remember. So yes, this is it! Any advice and suggestions would be welcome!
I just bought a iMac and I would like to transfer all my iTunes Music and Apps from my iTunes from my Macbook Pro to the iMac So my iphone and ipad will have no problem. I want to make the iMac my main computer for all iTunes things.
I am relatively new to the Mac world, and so please excuse me if this sounds like a dumb question. I have a iMac running 10.6.8 and hard wired, not wireless.I recently purchased a MAB with the intention of NOT hooking it to the internet but just stand alone, for writing purposes. I needed an app for it, so I purchased it through the app store on the iMac with the intent of transferring to the MAB via flash drive. Now in retrospect, its probably not the way its supposed to happen, due to licence rules, etc. how I can get the app on my MAB or will I have to get it online to do a transfer from the iMac?
Info: MacBook Air (13-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I'm transferring files from my MacBook Pro to the new iMac. I decide to use the Migration Assistant and proceed to connect both machines using the USB port. All looked nice in the beginning and the bar tab status started to fulfill indicate the advance and hours to finish. Since yesterday in both screens indicate "3 hours and 53 minutes remaining" and don't go forward. Looks like the process freeze.
I am unable to access my e-mail since i "upgraded" to ICloud using my iMac - my passwrod is continually rejected. I also have a macbookpro with access to the same e-mail account which DOES accept my password. All this has happened since I upgraded to iCloud and frankly I am at a loss.
I am new to Mac-have recently migrated from PC to a dear little MacBook. This may be a server problem, but thought I would ask. Suddenly my inbox filled up with 1500 old emails (3-4 months' worth all marked "unread"). Have I inadvertently done something?
How do I sync my emails on my phone with the emails on my Macbook Pro, so that when I delete items off my inbox on my phone it will automatically recognize it on my Mac? Rather annoying having to see the emails on my Mac again after deleting them all.
I just ordered my first iMac. (27" i7). When it arrives, I would like to transfer a few gigs (15-20) of data from my early '08 15" MBP to it. I won't be doing the whole Apple wizard transfer thing, as I only want a few folders, not all of my settings.
What would be the best way to transfer these files? I'm thinking firewire. My MBP has both the 400 and 800 port. Would this work well? How about ethernet?
I would like to order from Monoprice, as I still have a $40 store credit. Will this 800/800 cable work with both machines? I get so confused with all of the different cables they have.
my old g5 1.6ghz bit the dust and I was finally able to upgrade. The only stuff I really want to save is the itunes music I have on there. The question is, how do I get it over? The g5 is running 10.2.8. Feasibly couldn't I just transfer all the music onto a flash drive and put it on the imac that way? Oh one more things, I don't have a monitor for the g5 tower... could I use the imacs screen for my g5? And yeah how would I do that.
I am wanting to transfer some photos onto my iPhone4 from iPhoto. I think I have done this before a few years back but I can not figure it out for the life of me.
So my uncle passed and among family heirlooms that I picked up he also left me his iMac. For the longest time all we had needed was a cheap laptop to keep our iTunes on for our iPhones and for internet access. With the addition of this desktop, I'd like to make it just as functional as my PC for my needs. The mp3 files on my uncles iMac were stored on a external drive so I just deleted his library. Here's my issue. I want to make the iTunes on my iMac just like the iTunes on my PC. Is there a way to upload all of my music from my iPhone to the current iTunes or do I have to put all of my music on a disk and transfer it that way?
Have purchased a used white intel core two duo imac. It's not in my possession yet.
1. Backing up before transferring data. Can I use one of those key things (don't know what they are called) that fit into usb port? 2. Once I've backed up, what is best way to connect the two computers for transferring files? 3. My understanding is that by using migration assistant, it will transfer all of those files necessary for a particular application...is this correct, and if so, will it then put those files where they should be?
I have a Power Mac 8600 OS 8.1 and would like to transfer files to a New Imac OS 10.5.6.
The 8600 has a built in 100 zip drive. I was thinking of buying a used Iomega 100 mg external zip to use on my Imac to transfer the files via the removable disks. Will this work?
I recently moved my WD 1Tb HD from my PC to my iMac which recognised it and it's files at once. However when I try to move any files from my iMac to the external drive, I get the following message:The item could not be moved because WD My Book cannot be modified.I have no idea what this means (I'm a relative Newbie to Mac) can anyone help me?
Do I need a special cord to transfer large files from one mac to another? Examples pictures etc... Can I just plug usb between the two and go? I really do not want to burn DVD or transfer to external HD....
I have a new iMac and an older MacBook. I wanna transfer about 70 gigs of info to the macbook from the iMac. Only problem is the iMac has a newer firewire port and the macbook has an older firewire port. Transferring wirelessly through aim will take way too long. Can I connect through the ethernet ports or maybe usb ports?
I just recently purchased a 24" imac and I am having trouble transfering my itunes library files on my new imac? When its connected to the PC I can view and see the files on the external hard drive but when I connect the external hard drive to the imac and I try to add those files to the itunes library they are not visible to add?
My previous computer was an HP Pavilion laptop, in which died on me few months ago. The graphics card died and it was built into the motherboard, so I had to replace the whole motherboard. A) Money wise it wasn't worthed B) It was 2 years old.
Now the laptop still works, just doesn't show anything on the screen, but in the background its actually working. So the files from the hard drive are still there. The only way I used to get the screen viewable was by connecting my laptop to another monitor and go into safe mode. The laptop has 2 hard drives. And the files weren't on the primary but on the secondary built-in hard drive. The operating system I was using was Windows Vista.
I've just bought a new iMac, and wish to try find a way were I can transfer the files into my iMac.
I just recently got a new iMac and I want to transfer my iTunes library on over. My primary rig used to be a MBP and to conserve HD space, I put my music library on an external HD. The problem is that I can't seem to get it to work. So, rather than me describing my failed attempts, let me show you where I'm at. The first pic is Steve(my user name)>Music>iTunes on my iMac. As you can see, a few of my folders have populated but obviously everything is not there. Also, for instance, the song Twilight of the Thunder Gods by Amon Amarth doesn't play even though the folder is in there. It *will* however play if I have my external HD plugged in because it locates the song on said device. The second picture is that of the same folder on my external HD. As you can see, all of my song folders are there. I currently have my iTunes Media folder location set to Users>Steve?Music/iTunes.
How do you transfer all of your files/ music/ photos/ videos/ etc. on to your new Mac? Is there some cord you need to plug in to transfer everything, or should I go to the local Apple Store and have them do everything?
I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but I recently upgraded to a IMac from a 3 yr old mbp. I want to transfer my iphoto pictures from the mbp to the imac. Anyway I export them in such a way to have the same albums show up on the imac as they were on the mbp?
