I have had a long standing problem with Preview. I know it is odd but around closing time every day, two of my computers both running 10.6.8 get error message when trying to save a new document. The document will be open on my screen and when I go to save it I get the error message that the file can not be saved because it does not exist. Some background that may be relevent:
The documents that I create all day long (for at least 6 years) are output from a 4D database. I generate a report from the db and it opens in Preview as a PDF file. All day long I have no issues with creating and saving these docs. Then around 4-4:30 when many people are getting ready to leave two of our computers (one iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core i3 and an older macMini) have this problem. All you have to do to fix it is quit Preview and regen the doc. Unfortunately we often lose a lot of work because of it. I've tried anticipating when it will happen and restart Preview before creating the new doc but that only works occasionally.
I suspect that it has something to do with people logging out (I am usually the last to leave) and perhaps some shared application is effected. Everyone does have their own copy of Preview and we all use separate 4D clients. I have searched the internet many times. I have found some similar problems that people have had with this error but not related to my own. Unfortunately both Preview and "the file can not be saved because it does not exist" are very general terms that bring up all kinds of unrelated things.
I was going to try to delete the Preview Prefs file and start again but I can not find a plist for preview or any other file that is clearly the prefs. Searched the internet for that too but did not find it.

We routinely upload to Vimeo using Final Cut X's Share menu. It works great. It remembers the account and password and remembers the "Anyone with Password" password.
In Motion 5 it allows me to select the same option, but at the bottom I get a yellow triangle with "The Privacy Password field must be completed." I do not see anywhere within window or any of the tabs to allow this password to be entered. This increases the workflow as I need to export, then upload through the browser.

I have strange beep/chrr noise from up left corner of my macbook pro i7.
This is happening only when I am watching youtube/vimeo or something video over flash player (10.1). I tried HW acceleration on/off and still this problem.
Later I noticed this problem is only with Safari, when I use Firefox or Chrome problem does not exist.
Reinstalled flash, cleared all caches, still there.
By watching .flv in VLC, QuickTime or Movist also nothing... My safari is 5.01 version.
I've just bought a brand new MacBook Pro 15 inch retina, upgraded to 2.7ghz processor.
Video content on YouTube and Vimeo is juddering and skipping worse than it does on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It's not smooth at all.
I've had the computer a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to install anything on it yet (aside from flash player to play the videos), so it's basically as it came from the factory.
At the week-end, I updated my real player and got Real player downloader. It automatically detects video that can be downloaded on on any site you visit.

I am wondering if there is any way possible in downloading iMovie 06 for free? I have tried for an hour and still no luck in downloading, all I can download is updates. so if anyone knows a download link to iMovie 06 . Also, I have a Sony cam corder what records in .wmv format, iMovie doesn't like this, anyway I can download some 'updates' so that I can edit and render videos in iMovie instead of booting up Windows.
I'm trying to download the BK Burger Shots commercial so that I can take it into final cut or imovie and make some additions to it for fun. I can only find it on youtube (in awful quality) and on a site called Adland - that one is better quality, but it only plays embedded into the site. Is there anyway I can take this video from the site to my hard drive? Or does anyone know a good site that may have this video available for download?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI find direct to vimeo uploads useful from FCPX because clients can view/stream or download files depending on their requirements.
But since I upgraded to 10.1.3 the uploads fail about 50% of the time. Error message "Upload to vimeo failed. Request timed out".
I can't find anything wrong. Is it just a bug with this version of FCP?
I'm aware the workaround is quite simple (Share to disk then upload from there) but due to the volume of stuff I'm exporting (e.g. testing 60 different music tracks on the same 30 second film) the direct upload shortcut can actually save me large amounts of time.
I am using the Mail (5.2) app in OS 10.7. I have my Inbox sorted by decending date, i.e. newest mail at the top. When I delete a message, Mail currently selects the message above, i.e. the one that had arrived after the deleted one chronologically. Since I work through my emails from newest to latest (usually), I will already have seen the newer mesage. What I want to see is the next message on the list, i.e. the next one, which arrive before the deleted one. My question there is: How can I advance to the previous message rather than the next one (chronologically) after deleting a message?

I used a Sony miniDV camcorder for several years and recorded a lot of video. I bought a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def camcorder and am now trying to download some of the video tapes I recorded on the old Sony camcorder. The video clips chop short and the I can't understand the audio. I'm using imovie 06 and a PowerPC G4 loaded. I think I may need to buy a camera like I had and play the tapes back on it. What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have the setting on the camera and computer set properly.

I don't know the system details?The first time i tried, it said 'installing' for a long time, until I accidentally deleted it from the dock at the bottom of the desktop when trying to look for details. I went back to the app store and tried to install it again, and it has now said "waiting" for the past 24 hours, and the bar under the icon hasn't moved. I am connected to decent speed internet at a University, so don't think that is likely to be the problem.

If I try to save onto my second drive, " Macintosh HD 2" (the non-boot drive) it works fine.
I have
1/ checked read and write permissions and my Macintosh HD and they are set for "read & write"
2/ I have repaired disk premissions using Disc Utilities to no avail
3/ booted using Cmd - R and used terminal and applied "reset home directory permissions and ACL's" to no avail.

I have a MacBook Pro ca. 2010. It's on 10.7.2. For the past few months I've been fighting this particular problem, and have not been able to get a solution on other Mac forums. Hopefully someone here has some insight. Every time I start or restart the Mac it restores the desktop, including the dock and apps, to a state from a few months ago. It opens Safari, iPhoto, System Preferences and the Real Player Downloader (which I just this moment deleted). iPhoto immediately wants to repair its database, Safari opens the tabs that were open that day, and System Preferences goes to Network.
I have tried deleting the folders in /username/libraray/application saved states. I have locked that folder. I have unchecked the option in Preferneces, and I always uncheck the option to save states when shutting down. Based on a suggestion from a user elsewhere I repaired disk permissions on the hard drive.

a friend of mine has some problems with her DVD drive.
It does not accept some video DVDs as it seems, but not always the same, that seems to be varying.
Also there is this strange error message, which I can't get my head around, as NTFS-3G should have nothing to do with CDs or DVDs, as they use a completely different and independent file system.

She runs Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a 15" Unibody MBP with 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM (early 2009) and has NTFS-3G installed to transfer data onto NTFS formatted drives.
Can anyone give any insight into this?
