OS X :: Difference In Analog And Digital Clock Time Display
Apr 2, 2009I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard 10.5.6, and the clock is being weird. Last weekend we put the clocks forward an hour here in the UK and I suspect this has something to do with it. What's happening is that my clock is displaying an hour earlier than it actually is, and if I put it into manual mode rather than relying on the Euro Apple timeserver, that fixes it but then the time on my Mail is wrong - it says each message was received a hour before it actually was.
Then it gets really odd - if I change the timezone to London BST and then check the time & date panel, the digital clock still reads an hour early, but the analogue one beneath it displays the right time Then if I close the panel and re-open, I find it's reverted to GMT and both clocks say it's an hour early.

Dec 6, 2009Does anyone know of a simple full screen digital clock app? I just want a red or a green digital clock with hh:mm:ss on a black background to have running on the the TV on NYE during our party so that we don't miss the countdown. Any ideas? Googling turns up a heap of iPhone apps and some defunt OS X apps but nothing that'd work.

Oct 12, 2009Like the title says; my dad's vision is getting progressively worse, so I'm looking to fix him up with a ridiculously bright, preferably very large monitor. He likes photography, so at least moderate color accuracy would be nice (video performance is completely irrelevant), but is secondary, since if he can't see it it doesn't much matter how good the color is. Not ridiculously expensive, also nice.
I can, of course, go sort monitors at Newegg by brightness and pick the highest one, but if some of the online tests are to be believed, the specced brightness isn't necessarily accurate, and that doesn't tell the story if it looks like complete crap otherwise.
On paper the Hanns�G HG-281DPB is ridiculous in brightness and size, but it's basically a TV (HDMI-only); I like ViewSonic and Samsung, but on paper most of their screens aren't notably bright.
OS X :: Display Wont Stay Asleep?
Nov 17, 2009 So I am one of those guys that keep my desk in the same room I sleep, but can�t stand light of any kind while I am sleeping ( I know this will eventually be a hardship for me sometime, somewhere) .
Sure I know I could just move my desk out of the room and avoid this issue but I would like your input.
I like to leave my Mac book on and open with an external display always plugged in. I do not want to shut down or put it to sleep as I want it to be available 24/7 for some type of remote access. I currently have my display set to sleep after one minute with a hot corner to activate (running on 10.6.2) however at random the displays will wake and thus cause this light eyed sleeper to also wake. I can defeat this partially by killing power to one monitor every night but there is nothing I can do about the internal display short of turning down the backlight. I have wake for Ethernet disabled. Can anyone tell me, how can I do what I need to do? What type of background events cause the display to wake and why? And how if at all, can I stop them from doing this? I just want to only be able to wake the display from suspend or power save when I press a key on an attached keyboard.
Mac Pro :: Apple Cinema Display Won't Stay Asleep.
Jun 3, 2009I have a first gen Mac Pro with a 20" Apple Cinema Display connected to it. I always leave my computer in, but I let my display sleep. My display will go to sleep fine but it will wake up randomly and then fall back asleep again after the time interval. This has been going on for a long time but it's starting to really bother me.

Mar 11, 2012My Macbook Pro (purchased Dec 2010) falls asleep when I am in the middle of using it (typing, clicking, watching a tv show).There will be no display or sound, and it will sleep. Most times it will wake up when I click the touchpad alot or close and reopen the screen. However, sometimes I will need to restart. I am not sure why it is doing this all the sudden. It is happening more and more often. How can I fix it? The AC Adapter is plugged in, battery work normally and I set the energy saver so that it would not sleep when plugged in.

May 5, 2012Lion makes the sleep process take a while. But after a short time my Mac Pro wakes from sleep and even though I have it set up to go back to sleep after five minutes of inactivity it never goes back to sleep. This wasn't a problem with the first version of Lion.

MacBook Pro :: It Cannot Connect To Digital Display
May 13, 2012Today when i plugged in my Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011) there was no output. The monitor was in power save, and my compute did not detect the monitor (note i have been using this setup for months without problem). Every time i plug in the dvi cable ( to my mini display port adapter i get the ususal blue flash but then nothing else happens.
I've tried a new dvi cable, tried a different monitor on my mac.then i tried both monitors on a windows computer, and they both work,then i tried using VGA out on the macbook (using another adapter) and that surprisingly worked. Only thing left either the computer (hardware or configuration?) , or the DVI - mini DP adapter. They cost $30 and I really don't want to spend that kind of money on it unless i know that is th cause. is it possible for my mac to have VGA out but DVI/HDMI are broken. or is it just my adapter?

Apr 6, 2012I have 2 iMacs, both running Lion. Both are on my home wifi network and both have folders that are shared between both systems. When one iMac goes to sleep, I eventually lose it on the network. I have to go wake it up before it is again visible on the network so I can access the files on it.Is there some setting I can set that will allow the iMac to go to sleep and yet still be visible on the network. There is a setting that allows network activity to wake up the iMac but it does not seem to work.

Mac Mini :: Any Way To Change Display Layout For Large LCD
Sep 22, 2010I am a new Mac user, just switched from PC. Problem is that I connected my mini thru its HDMI out with a HDMI cable to my 47in Phillips LCD in its HDMI in. Everything is working fine but because I sit on my bed and use it. I find it to be too small, if I change resolution then I guess I will be losing out on the 1080p and also will need to connect thru VGA not HDMI. Is there any way I can make things look bigger so I can read the txt and everything from far away. Also I am not using a keyboard (only a mouse) so don't think I can zoom. But still I don't want to zoom all the time. Is there any permanent solution.

Jan 5, 2009The display on the Mac computer at my work has been changed so that all the icons are very tiny, the fonts are very large, and when I move the mouse, the entire screen moves so that most of the time a part of the screen is hidden and I have to jiggle the mouse around to read everything - I'm not scrolling, it just automatically does it without me clicking. I am not really familiar with Macs but I do know how to get to system preferences, and I can't think what option might make the screen do that. It really makes the computer harder to use - does anyone know what it is? I also didn't see where I could make the icons bigger or smaller, it doesn't seem like the Desktop/Display really does it.

He asked me how he could make it so that he could organize all of his safari windows neatly on the display (automatically -- without manually dragging each one to it's corner on the respective display) so that he could have a bunch of safari windows open at the same time without overlapping each other. He came from Windows 7 and is used to the feature where you can drag a window to one side of the screen and have the window sized to the left half of the screen accordingly. He doesn't want exactly this, because that would waste a lot of the available real estate he has, but he needs something so that he doesn't have to drag 10 windows all across the landscape every time he opens safari.

Feb 4, 2012Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated. The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page. I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. Â
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?

Jun 2, 2010I finally upgraded from my 15" PowerBook 1.67 to the new 13" MacBook Pro 2.66. On the PowerBook I would usually run an external display using a single link DVI cable. I have read about the issues with the apple mini display adapters not working on DVI-I or non fully digital displays, but since I had been running the external via single link DVI (digital correct?) I figured that I wouldn't run into any problems. I did some troubleshooting with what I had and plugged my computer into my TV through the mini display adapter to a single link DVI to HDMI cable and all worked fine. Do you think that a dual link DVI cable could solve the problem connecting to my monitor? Or is my monitor flat out incabable? Third party adapter? Worst case I could just go VGA, though I don't want to. My monitor is a Sceptre x20.

Mar 20, 2012Apparently, apple removed the 24hr clock function from calendar (former ical) application.
It was until Snow leopard OS that this function was still possible, with the new OS Lion, this very useful function is no longer available.
It is true or is just me that I can't figure it out how to find it.

Mar 26, 2012Since upgrading to Lion I have an extra page printing with every print job on my Optra E310 laser printer with cropped off USERID = "xxx", HOST ID = "xxx" and @PJL JOB NAME = "xxx". It seems to happen mainly in Apple applications, i.e. Mail, but has also happened in Acrobat Pro X. Admittedly, it's an old printer but according to Apple and Lexmark it is supported in Lion. I've tried every setting available but can't seem to eradicate the problem. Lexmark support, who were extremely unhelpful, kicked it straight back to Apple.

Jun 5, 2012I need to process large files (few GB) from a measurement. The data files contain lists of measured events.I process them event by event and the result is relatively small and does not occupy much memory.The problem I am facing is that Lion "thinks" that I want to use the large data files later again and puts them into cache (inactive memory). The inactive memory is growing during the reading of the datafiles up to a point where the whole memory is full (8GB on MacBook Pro mid 2010) and it starts swapping a lot. That of course slows down the computer considerably including the process that reads the data.
If I run "purge" command in Terminal, the inactive memory is cleared and it starts to be more responsive again. The question is: is there any way how to prevent Lion to start pushing running programs from memory into the swap on cost of useless harddrive cache?Â
