OS X :: Using Lynx To Display Temperature In Geektool (Extra Words Added)
Feb 26, 2009
I'm using Lynx to display the temperature in Geektool, but for some reason "inthe" is added to it. I'm using the code:
lynx -dump http://printer.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=44221|awk '/Temperature /{printf $2, ": "; for (i=3; i<=3; i++) printf $i " " }'
And this one causes the same thing,
lynx -dump http://printer.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=44221|awk '/Temp/{printf $2, ": "; for (i=3; i<=3; i++) printf $i " " }'
I added a lot of words to the standard Mac OS X system-wide dictionary on a given machine, and would like to transfer that specific list of words to another machine. Where / in what file(s) is that list of words stored?
I was wondering if it is possible to display 2 different calendars (Gregorian and Islamic) on the desktop using a geektool script. I have tried asking in the Geektool thread in the picture gallery forum and no one has answered.
I need a step-by-step guide to display my weather image in Geektool. I got the idea from here:[URL]/The php script part beats me. My weather area code is SNXX0005(Serangoon, Singapore).
My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.
I noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?
I apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram. What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?
I recently installed Lync on my 2010 Macbook Pro to do some stuff with geektools. I want to now remove Lynx from my Mac but can not figure out how? I don't know where all the files are. Is there a terminal command to completely remove it? Or someone said something about a packet manager to uninstall it? I cant seen to find the right answer out any where. Nothing about removing it on their site either. Here is the site: http://www.osxgnu.org/software/pkgde...project_id=226 I downloaded and installed ver 13, its the 2nd one down.
I've been posting alot of threads lately but this one is a last resort. I've googled maybe 10 times, read numerous forums, checked help guides and I still cant figure out how to uninstall the text based browser. I just want it off my computer.
Just picked up a 24" Cinema Display and I'm in love. However, I've just noticed quite a difference in color temperature between it and my 13" MacBook Pro. I've gone through all of the provided color profiles in System PreferencesDisplaysColorDisplay Profiles, but no matter which I select, the two displays don't exactly match.I'm not a display expert by any stretch of the means, and I don't have access to a hardware calibrator. All I can really say is that the Cinema Display seems a bit warmer/more yellow than the MacBook Pro and that the MacBook Pro looks like it might be a bit more red in addition to being cooler, overall.
Is there somewhere that has a step by step on using Geektool? I downloaded Geektool3 and was able to cut and paste a date script from another thread. It got on the desktop ok, but I want to delete it and start from scratch.. New to Mac and have been reading daily for hours to get up to speed but this one has stumped me...
I'm looking to modify the cal command that I've seen used for calendars in GeekTool to create a horizontal calendar.
I don't care about days of the week so much, I just think it would be interesting to have all of the days of the week listed out in order at the bottom of my screen, with the current one marked.
So, I need two things:
I need to strip out of the cal command the days of the week at the top (or repeat them the appropriate number of times, but I imagine that will be far more difficult) and the line breaks at the end of each week. This is the most important part.
Secondly, I'd like to find a way to add bars (like this: |) on either side of the current date without replacing the numbers as most of the calendars I've seen have done it.
Here's the code I've seen:
Code: cal | sed "s/^/ /;s/$/ /;s/ $(date +%e) / $(date +%e | sed 's/././g') /"
If I can just modify that to get what I want, that's fine, if I have to use something completely different, that's fine. I just would love to have a horizontal calendar.
Seeing as GeekTool is old and inefficient, I am considering creating a new tool that is less of a burden on system resources.
I want to know what features you would like to see in a new version of the tool. I'm thinking native support for basic stuff such as getting the date and time without having to run a shell command.
Does anyone know if GeekTool (or any other similar tools) can be used to bring up an analog clock on the desktop? Especially with a custom-designed clockface?
just found Geektool and it's great. It's so useful, however i found that i cannot use Camouflage with it. Is there other way to do it? Or perhaps is there a way to double click the destop to open a finder window? Either are good solutions for me.
im trying to display "Monday | November 15" and I have "date +%A" to display the weekday, "date +%B" to display the month, and "date +%d" to display the date number.. but somethin like "date +%A | date +%B date +%d" doesnt work.. I know I can create 3 shell boxes to do this, but I rather learn for the future so how do I do this all at once?
I've been learning and customizing Geektool over the weekend and I'm stumped on how to get it to display a to-do list that refreshes for free.
I've read many different websites on how to do this and I'm stumped. I don't really understand code, don't use iCal, and have no idea how to read my terminal info.
I'd like to use Geektool b/c of the customization it offers, but I'd also like to be able to use something where I can simply view my to-do list and it refreshes automatically. The thing is I need something that's free.
These are the sites that I've visited, but I get confused when they start talking about ~users and where to place files and editing documents. I've looked here:
I recently received a copy of the latest build of Snow Leopard (10A354 i believe). Now when i upgraded the first time GeekTool was working fine. Then i was working on changing the MenuBar to black and the whole system just crashed on me. I had to do a complete reinstall of regular Leopard and then upgrade again to Snow Leopard. Last night was rough. Sooo im not going to try that again for a little while.
I have GeekTool 3 and weather is not working. I am trying to get the current conditions, temperature and a picture of the conditions, but it is not working.
Can someone give me the code and tell me what information to fill in?
I have a question for anyone out there who is into customizing their desktop. This is my current desktop setup (for my second display) created with Geektool. I'm pretty happy with it but being as anal as I am I want the AM/PM lights to be lit properly.
I can create two desktop wallpapers but OSX wallpaper settings aren't detailed enough to change the image every 12 hours. The only other thing I could think of was to create a 24 hour video, 12 hours of AM followed by 12 of PM. Then use Mach Desktop to play the video.
Though this is crazy overkill and would unnecessarily use a ton of resources. Any ideas would be awesome!
So I've downloaded both geektool and bowtie. The default bowtie themes are boring and I have downloaded more that are compatible with geektool but have NO clue what to do. I could use some tips.
