MacBook Pro :: Display For Console Input And Digital TV

Aug 11, 2009

I'm going to buy a MBP. I am also going to buy an external display. I'm going to university, and would like to have a 'display' that can also take a console input and receive digital TV. Otherwise I have to buy an external computer display and a TV, which is expensive and not good for desk space!

MacBook Pro :: Recording From Digital Input

Mar 6, 2010

wanted to know if anyone has tried using the digital input on the mic for recording. As most of you know the Macbook pro has digital out/in. [URL] I peeked inside the mic hole and there is a diode or some sort just like the output. I have a digital out from another source running into it, so how do you actually pick it up and record it to a file?

Hardware :: New 13" MacBook Pro Drops Digital Audio Input For FireWire And SD?

Jun 9, 2009

The new 13" MacBook Pro unveiled at WWDC makes room for its new SD card slot and FireWire 800 port in part by giving up a digital audio input port. Instead, the new model uses the same integrated mic and headphone port as the iPhone. Most MacBook users are unlikely to ever employ the combination digital and analog audio input port, which has appeared on all Mac notebooks for years. Podcasters are likely to use a USB mic like the Blue Snowball instead. However, lots of users are likely to want to use their iPhone or iPod touch combination headset/mic with their MacBook for video conferencing, and recent notebooks have added the additional pin required to support recording audio in addition to stereo headphone analog outputs and digital audio output.

Mac Pro :: Input Digital Audio From The MP To The ADVC 110?

Jan 1, 2009

I have an older Yamaha receiver (RX 596) that has no optical audio in, only traditional RCA inputs. I tried using a 3.5 mm mini audio to RCA adapter that would transfer my headphone output to the CD or AUX input on the receiver. Of course the audio was crap, lots of humming and low volume level.

I also have a Canopus ADVC 110 digitizer. Can I input digital audio from the MP to the ADVC 110 with an optical to RCA converter, and then output the analog audio from the ADVC 110 with RCA cables to the RCA inputs on the Yamaha? Suggestions please for the easiest/cheapest way to get quality audio out of my MP and cleanly into my receiver.

Power Mac G5 :: Digital Input Route Through Headphone Jack Output?

Oct 30, 2007

I have my Xbox 360 sound out-putting through an optical digital cable to the digital input of my Dual 2.3ghz Power G5. My mac recognizes the signal but I was hoping I could somehow use the incoming sound to output through my headphone speaker jack on the front of my mac. Both my mac and xbox 360 use the same monitor.

I noticed it doesn't work that way. Is there a way to switch the incoming digital signal to route through my headphone port on the front of my mac? There has to be a way.

MacBook Pro :: It Cannot Connect To Digital Display

May 13, 2012

Today when i plugged in my Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011) there was no output. The monitor was in power save, and my compute did not detect the monitor (note i have been using this setup for months without problem). Every time i plug in the dvi cable ( to my mini display port adapter i get the ususal blue flash but then nothing else happens.

I've tried a new dvi cable, tried a different monitor on my mac.then i tried both monitors on a windows computer, and they both work, then i tried using VGA out  on the macbook (using another adapter) and that surprisingly worked. Only thing left either the computer (hardware or configuration?) , or the DVI - mini DP adapter. They cost $30 and  I really don't want to spend that kind of money on it unless i know that is th cause. is it possible for my mac to have VGA out but DVI/HDMI are broken. or is it just my adapter?

MacBook Pro :: Mini Display Port Not Working On DVI - I Or Non Fully Digital Displays

Jun 2, 2010

I finally upgraded from my 15" PowerBook 1.67 to the new 13" MacBook Pro 2.66. On the PowerBook I would usually run an external display using a single link DVI cable. I have read about the issues with the apple mini display adapters not working on DVI-I or non fully digital displays, but since I had been running the external via single link DVI (digital correct?) I figured that I wouldn't run into any problems. I did some troubleshooting with what I had and plugged my computer into my TV through the mini display adapter to a single link DVI to HDMI cable and all worked fine. Do you think that a dual link DVI cable could solve the problem connecting to my monitor? Or is my monitor flat out incabable? Third party adapter? Worst case I could just go VGA, though I don't want to. My monitor is a Sceptre x20.

MacBook Pro :: Digital Audio Output (HDMI) On It When Cinema Display Is Already Connected?

I would like to connect my Macbook Pro to my hometheatre via HDMI. Normally no problem with the mini display port and an HDMI adapter, but the port is already used for the 27" cinema display... Is there another adapter available that let`s me connect both, an HDMI device and the cinema display to my Macbook? I only care about the sound - I want to get digital sound to my receiver. IMac :: Using Mini Display Port As Video Input

Dec 16, 2009

I know about the 27 inch and how it can is can use its mini display port as a video input. But I was wondering if you could use the 21.5 inch to do the same. From what I am reading its seems though that it can't, is there a hack of some sort that could do this. This would be a great 1080p screen to use instead of buying a brand new TV.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Console Log Missing From Console.app?

Mar 17, 2012

In Mac OS 10.6, the Console.app had an option to show the "Console Log" which included what looks like the stdout/stderr message of running applications not explicitly sent to syslog. The option showed up as the second option in the system log queries/database queries list on the Log List.In 10.7, the only option is "All Messages" and there does not appear to be a way to view the "console log" as it was in 10.6. Is there a way to turn this on in 10.7? Does the Mac no longer provide a way to see the stdout/stderr messages for running applications (those run as .app and not from terminal)?see attached screen shots (left is 10.6/right is 10.7) with console messages option missing.

OS X :: Difference In Analog And Digital Clock Time Display

Apr 2, 2009

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard 10.5.6, and the clock is being weird. Last weekend we put the clocks forward an hour here in the UK and I suspect this has something to do with it. What's happening is that my clock is displaying an hour earlier than it actually is, and if I put it into manual mode rather than relying on the Euro Apple timeserver, that fixes it but then the time on my Mail is wrong - it says each message was received a hour before it actually was.

Then it gets really odd - if I change the timezone to London BST and then check the time & date panel, the digital clock still reads an hour early, but the analogue one beneath it displays the right time Then if I close the panel and re-open, I find it's reverted to GMT and both clocks say it's an hour early.

OS X :: Stopping Console Messages/Deleted Apps Creating Console Messages?

This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?

MacBook Pro :: Get 3 Messages In Console Every 10 Seconds?

Apr 18, 2012

A few days ago, i noticed a process running in my task manager. Something along the lines of, "Seagate data manager". The reason it was there is because my friend installed some software that would let us use his Seagate hard drive (it would not work on a mac without it). I was annoyed that this process was running on start-up years later when i did not need it any more. I searched though my Mac and found no apparent way to uninstall it, so i decided to find every file that had the word "seagate" and delete it. Probably not my brightest moment, i know, and technically it worked. I dont see the process running any more, but now i am seeing the fruits of my stupidity as i get these 3 messages in console every 10 seconds from what i think is my Mac trying to launch the process, but cant find the files that i deleted. I deleted 2 files. I cant remember exactly what they were called or where they were from. I think one was from "Macintosh HD > Library" and the other was from "Macintosh HD > System". I know that one of the files had the icon that looks like a little white Lego piece (see attachment called "icon").

here is what console says: 4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) posix_spawn("/Library/Application Support/Seagate/Seagate Storage Gauge.app/Contents/MacOS/Seagate Storage Gauge", ...): No such file or directory4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) Exited with exit code: 14/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

MacBook Pro :: Activity Monitor And Console Won't Open?

Apr 10, 2012

I knew everything was working fine on my Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz i5, 8gb ram, Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. I loaded up my Mac this morning and tried to open Activity Monitor but wont open. When I drag the application to the dock, there is no icon picture for it. I looked on the internet and it told me to load up Console, which I then found done the same thing.

In Utilities I realised the App 'Podcast Capture' was also missing its icon, but since I do not use that, I am not worried. After looking through google again, I ended up using FirstAid and repaired the disk and permissions. That still made no difference. Finally I then decided I could delete the .plist from preferences, to then find neither of the files for Console and Activity Monitor were there? And I had not deleted them.

Once last thing, in Terminal, every time I open it, it comes up with, bash: /usr/libexec/path_helper: Unknown error: -22

Not sure if this relates to it in anyway? The only thing I know that may have effected it was setting up a Minecraft server which I had to use a chmod a+x (file location). Which I thought gave it the commands. Didn't work anyway, but whilst in the middle of doing that I realised all these other issues.

MacBook :: Starting - Freezes At Login And Goes To Darwin Console

Jun 22, 2009

The weirdest thing has happened to my MacBook. It was running a little slow today so I restarted it thinking it would help clear out the memory and whatnot. When I restarted it, everything seemed normal. It makes the classic "mac soud" and shows the apple with the circular loading wheel. It then goes to the login screen, just as it normally does. However, once it goes to the login screen, the spinning beachball comes up and it freezes temporarily. This is when it starts to get bad. The screen then goes black and comes up with white letters saying: Darwin/BSD (my name's Computer.) (console) login: sometimes, I have time to type in my username and password, sometimes not. Either way, the following comes up: disk0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED)

it then goes back to the login screen, which completly freezes every time. I am completly frustrated and terrified that I will not be able to access my data, which includes over 2 years of music, pictures etc. that have not been backed up. Does anyone know what is going on with my MacBook?

MacBook Pro :: Console Messages Shows That Something Is Going On About Daemon Every Ten Seconds?

Feb 12, 2012

About a month back my computer started to take longer to turn off. it was about the time when I did a disk repair. So about a week ago I started to look to seee if there was a reason for it to be taking longer to turn off. When I open the console application, it shows that something that has to do  ith google ( think) tries to do something. I'm going to post a picture here. I have search for daemon and google and deleted anything that i found, but it still showed the message so I put eberything back. Like all of the messages in the picture are from the computer just doing nothing, except a few for screen shots. Most of the messges are exatly the same. It is three messages that repeat every like ten seconds. The computer works fine and everything but i just found it wierd today cuz i left it on for 3 hours ad when I came back it was not sleeping and when I checked the console aplication it showed so many messages for every ten seconds and my computer is supposed to go to sleep after 15 minutes. Oh, I have a 2006 Macbook pro that has a Intel core Duo and runs with snow Leopard.

MacBook Pro :: Disable Combo Drive Through Open Firmware Console

Aug 27, 2009

I have a mechanical fault with my combo drive (cdrw/dvd) in my Powerbook 12" 1.5 GHz running Leopard which makes it noisy even when there is no disk in there. Is it possible to disable the device by removing it from the device tree in Open Firmware before OS X boots? It sounds like the drive is checking for a disk. I am sure there is not a disk in there as it still accepts and ejects other disks. If it were to be removed from the device tree would this likely solve the problem, or would the power cable to the drive have to be physically disconnected?
