Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro. Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.Â
I have been trying to download Tiddlywiki. The download completes and the Java file shows in the finder. When I click it it asks the usual question about whether I am sure I want to open it, but then it fails to launch and says it can't open and that there is an error. I tried checking the console, but I can't understand a word!. I am using a MBA latest revision, top spec, SSD running leopard.
In Mac OS 10.6, the Console.app had an option to show the "Console Log" which included what looks like the stdout/stderr message of running applications not explicitly sent to syslog. The option showed up as the second option in the system log queries/database queries list on the Log List.In 10.7, the only option is "All Messages" and there does not appear to be a way to view the "console log" as it was in 10.6. Is there a way to turn this on in 10.7? Does the Mac no longer provide a way to see the stdout/stderr messages for running applications (those run as .app and not from terminal)?see attached screen shots (left is 10.6/right is 10.7) with console messages option missing.
I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
What has been released to install as a security update? I seem to be clicking on one web link which takes me to another and nothing to actually install. Typical Apple. Really wish I hadn't bought this MacCrap Air - I do miss my PC.
I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac. There is no security update issued for this operating system - it only covers 10.6. Is my comuter vulnerable? Do I need to do anything?
I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available. Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.Â
When I try running the JNLP file from Terminal suing command /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Web Start xyz.jnlp I get following errorÂ
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting... Can not find message file : No such file or directory.Â
I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2Â and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for exampleÂ
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.Â
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.Â
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Â Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?
I am brand new to Mac (I got a G4 laptop in trade to replace a dead windows desktop).I am trying to install Limewire and it tells me that I cannot: "could not launch application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed". It goes on to acknowledge that it can see everything up to 1.5...but that I need 1.6.
So, I go to Software Update and make sure that I have 1.6. It tells me that there are no new updates, that my computer is up to date.I think I recall being told that I am running Leopard on this laptop. If java 1.6 is available, and I do not have it, and my computer tells me that there are no new updates that my computer needs and will not automatically grab java 1.6, yet I need it to install anapplication....what are my options?
how can i force a program to use java 6 instead of java 7?im trying to use tekkit (minecraft mod) and i need java 7 for the sever but java 6 for the lancher?how i could force the lancher into using java 6?
I am having problem with post processing a simulation. Every time I hit the "plot parameter" button within the software I get the same error. Opening the file on a windows machine works perfectly fine, therefore I have tried updating the Java through "Software update" and still no luck. Â
Here are the error details:Â
Exception:java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: apple/laf/CUIAquaComboBox(rethrown as com.femlab.util.FlFatalException) Messages:Fatal error.- Type: NoClassDefFoundError Â
I just updated java. Yet, when I try to access this webpage, I get the "the page attempted to load java content, but java is unavailable or not installed."Â So, not sure what do to at this point?Â
I've been experiencing problems with my powerbook g4, after upgrading to 10.5 OS. Everytime I log in as admin, I get a grey "computer needs to restart" screen, yet everything works fine when I login as guest. Someone suggested I pull up my console log, but I haven't the slightest what all this means.
Can anyone clarify what this message means; "Apr 16 14:30:39 giles-moriartys-imac Firewall[48]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to TCP <my IP address> from 212.72.49.156:443" Am i right in thinking that my firewall is doing it's job and blocking connection attempts from 212.72.49.156:443? PS I have edit out my own IP address inn the quote above.
What do these messages mean and how can I fix them? They don't cause any problems but I'm really OCD about this type of stuff

I was downloading and updating a new version of calmXav and console came up with an error that something was wrong with my connection and so it was stopped. I have no idea what had happened? Can someone explain to me what console's job is?
This was in my console log. Does this mean my processors are throttling down?

So I picked up a client two months ago with a mac server (10.6.8). It had been sitting there un-used for 9 months.I created the network and configured services and users, in particular VPN. I got it all set up at the beginning of April. Mid-April I tested VPN again just to make sure it was working (it was).Hadn't heard from them until today when they could not log into the CONSOLE. Not the app or whatnot, but the console. It shakes like a wrong password with the administrator user and does nothing with other users.(all UID/PWD were correct)I was not able to VPN either but after a while I was able to once and saw the symptoms myself via VNC.(I lost the VPN session and was no longer able to VPN back in???)
I am able to SSH into the server with a user ID and SU to administrator (not able to ssh as administrator directly???).I checked the update history and it has not had any updates since my work in April, nor is the command line update tool reporting any new updates available. It has been running 10.6.8 since last year (again, just sitting there).I checked the servermgrd is loaded.I read another dissucsion that says the resolution to the problem is upgrade the OS to 10.7.3 or newer? And isn't that a paid upgrade?(seems fishy at best if that is the case).I don't see an OS update when I check system updates.
Info: Mac server 10.6.8, Mac OS X (10.6.8), can't log in
A lot of these errors keep "polluting" my Console daily. I've reset Dock, but nothing changes. What are these msgs all about? I've had these for long time (possibly even in Leopard - I don't remember exactly).
What does this console message mean? com.apple.launchd[1] (org.isc.named[461]): Exited with exit mode:1 com.apple.launchd[1] (org.isc.named): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
A few days ago, i noticed a process running in my task manager. Something along the lines of, "Seagate data manager". The reason it was there is because my friend installed some software that would let us use his Seagate hard drive (it would not work on a mac without it). I was annoyed that this process was running on start-up years later when i did not need it any more. I searched though my Mac and found no apparent way to uninstall it, so i decided to find every file that had the word "seagate" and delete it. Probably not my brightest moment, i know, and technically it worked. I dont see the process running any more, but now i am seeing the fruits of my stupidity as i get these 3 messages in console every 10 seconds from what i think is my Mac trying to launch the process, but cant find the files that i deleted. I deleted 2 files. I cant remember exactly what they were called or where they were from. I think one was from "Macintosh HD > Library" and the other was from "Macintosh HD > System". I know that one of the files had the icon that looks like a little white Lego piece (see attachment called "icon"). Â
here is what console says:Â 4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) posix_spawn("/Library/Application Support/Seagate/Seagate Storage Gauge.app/Contents/MacOS/Seagate Storage Gauge", ...): No such file or directory4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) Exited with exit code: 14/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Console, which was running fine ever since I had my MBP now, crashes every time I try to load it. Is it possible to reinstall it? The following is a snippet of the crash report which is automatically sent to Apple.
