OS X :: Preview Icon On Mp3 Files Went Missing?
Oct 12, 2010only recently i lost the possibility to play my mp3s neatly by clicking little play icon inside the file icon. i know this depends on the size of icons, but no matter how big my icons are the play button doesn't show.
does anybody know where on earth is this option?

Jun 4, 2012My .mov files no longer have icon images and will no longer play in the preview app.They all worked fine in snow leopard. Most of the files were shot on a canon 5d and then formatted to prores422 with mpeg streamclip. very basic stuff. This is seriously slowing down my work process as I use the preview app contantly when sorting new footage. All of the clips play fine in QT but not in preview.

Software :: Finder Icon Missing From Dock / Replaced The .icns Files
Aug 18, 2010I recently changed my Finder icon by replacing the .icns files in my CoreServices folder. The icon appears as it should in dialog boxes, but doesn't show up at all in the Dock. Instead there's just a blank space where it's supposed to be. It's still perfectly functional, but annoying. :-S
I've tried logging out/restarting, reseting the dock, deleting the dock plist, and creating a new user account (it's still missing on the new account). I'm running out of things to try, does anyone have a suggestion?

Mar 27, 2012I have a macbook pro. I was recently overseas when I closed my lid the mac went into hibernation and everything was fine. So I came back home and when I opened my mac my outlook icon on my dock was missing. So was my mails went missing. When I opened the application. It started over again. All my mail has gone. So I used timeline and had backed up every thing. However still don't explain has to why the my outlook had disappeared.

Feb 21, 2012I want to compress a PDF I have created. I've been told that in Preview, in the Print dialog box, in the PDF menu there is an option "Compress PDF." That option doesn't appear in my dropdown menu. It doesn't appear in that menu regardless of what program I'm selecting Print from. I have a new MacBook Pro I bought last August with the latest version of Lion. How do I get that compression feature to work on my system?

Jul 10, 2009I've been having intermittent problems with the Preview app showing PDF files with either missing text or distorted fonts. The PDFs all display correctly if I use Adobe Acrobat (Reader or Professional). The one I can consistently get to malfunction is the PDF generated by the Postal Service label generator. The barcode always prints incorrectly by Preview, yet if I pull up that very same file in Adobe, it displays and prints just fine.

Aug 24, 2009Some document (jpgs, pdfs, pngs, docs, gifs) icons in finder do not have previews, regardless of whether or not "display icon preview" is on, and regardless of the state of similar, or even copied versions of the file. Some folders are better/worse than others, and some have complained about problems involving externals, and perhaps permissions?
Additionally, I've had instances when previously previewable files have, over time, lost their previews, sometimes while they've been in a folder I was poking around in. These previews can even go missing in the Cover Flow view and QuickLook, and just show the generic icon picture.
I really don't think this is due to processing power, or taking time/RAM to compile the previews, and I haven't noticed the correlation some have between PC origins and lack of preview.Is there some way to force finder to rebuild it's preview database? Does anyone know what the deal is, or indeed, if there is one?
(I had a look around, and there were a couple o' threads, in this site and others, and an archived support article which didn't really answer it, despite the "answered" tag.)Basically: some docs don't generate previews, or lose the ones that they get, does anyone know why?

Dec 29, 2010I'm new to the whole mac thing and got my first mac (an iMac) just 2 days ago. A whole new learning experience.
I've downloaded and am running uTorrent. uTorrent is showing in the dock, with the text and the small "light" underneath it to show the app is running. However there is no icon, just space. Also in the applications folder, there seems to be a standard icon ("There's no icon, so we'll use this standard icon for the application").
I've attached a screenshot of how it looks in the dock.
I know the uTorrent app has an icon, it was showed right when I downloaded the app and I haven't changed anything, but now it's gone. How do I get it back?

I shall explain my problem.
Um, a few weeks ago[2 wks to be exact], i went overseas. Upon coming back, I on-ed my imac and found something very weird. There were icons at the bottom of my screen appearing to be a '?'. At that point of time I didn't know how to make em appear normal, thus i moved em to the thrash. I tried to open it earlier when it was a "?" but it wun open. However, what I didn't know and which was a careless mistake, i moved my microsoft office[entourage,word,ppt, i moved em into one folder] into the thrash as it appeared to be a question mark. However, when i checked the thrash, i saw no such folder... How do i fix this?

May 16, 2012After updating my OS X which brought Safari up to 5.1.7 the saved links I had in my dock are blank. Even though i can click in that area and the pages will load. I can't figure out how to fix this. Also, when I drag a link from the address bar to the desktop the icon that appears is nothing more than a blank white page.

Jan 3, 2011All of a sudden I restarted my computer and the dock didn't show up and the fonts for the clock and battery were different. The widgets also would not show up. Also missing was some of the icons for random programs (applications, illustrator, pictures etc.) I am thinking I might have deleted some of the systems files? In safe mode the dock and widgets work and the fonts are correct however the icons are still missing.

Mar 18, 2012I just got my computer reformatted, and lost all icon customization. I went to change them and did all successfully (most in Candybar), but the Finder has been a problem. I initially forgot how to do it, so some research said I could do it if I simply replaced the file in the System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources (Finder.png) path with my own of the same name. I did, but it didn't take - still blue. So then I did it through Candybar and it just disappeared from the dock. I've tried reverting the Finder.png file and nothing, as well as restoring the original icon through Candybar.
I saw one answer about booting a clone, so I researched how to do that, and can't do it on my internal for some reason. I tried an external, but it said it'd have to wipe all files first, which I won't.I should add that an archive and install isn't an option - I JUST got this fixed by Apple yesterday since I had lost my install disks, so I certainly can't do it myself.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unread Email Count Missing From Dock?
Mar 31, 2012For some reason, soon after migrating from MobileMe to iCloud, the indicator showing how many unread messages I have disappeared. The strange thing is the count DOES show for my other email accounts (POP server accounts through Road Runner)....it's the IMAP iCloud email account that shows NO count indicator at all.
I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion.
The unread email count indicator DOES appear on my MacBookPro and my MacMini at work.....it's just the iMac at home that has this issue.
How do you make the unread email count reappear?

May 12, 2012since the 10.7.4 update, I have the url shortcuts icon missing in my dock: When draging a new URL from safari to the dock, it's the same problem. The icon is invisible but there is a gap between the other icons and the name of the url's page is displayed when passing the cursor. This problem is only with URL shortcuts and no with jpg or pdf or mp3 or folder sortcuts etc.. I have already reboot the dock and make a disk permissions check and repair. Restarting my computer doesn't solve the problem. Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)
