How do I force preview to shut down?

Preview will not force quit. I installed a back up disk to save 3 photo's on my new computer. It has been saving the photo's for 2 days now and I can't shut it off or eject the disk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro will not shut off or restart. It just hangs. Incidentally the same happend with my Mac Pro.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA friend's Son is being very "unproductive" with his Macbook Pro. I'll just leave it at that. Â
He would like to force-shutdown his Son's Mac from 10pm to 4am, so that it cannot be restarted unless an Admin uses it (my friend).Â

How do you totally shut off resume? I've tried unchecking the box at logout, and in system preferences, and it just ignores it.

Whenever I need to shut my computer down from the apple menu it hangs. It does the same thing whenever I try to restart it. It's annoying. The only way I can get results is to physically shut it off.

I have a new imac 3.4ghz - i7 with 16gbs ram that won't shut down unless I hold in the power button. I checked the Console logs but that did not give me any indication of what might be hanging it up. I also, have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and it has no trouble powering down. Â
I am running AVID Symphony which is not qualified for 10.7.4 yet so I am not going to do the update yet. Â

Ever since I have upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, sometimes MacBook Pro doesn't shutdown or restart. I choose shutdown or restart it logs me out then there is the gray screen with the turning little dotted circle and it doesn't reboot or turn off, so I have to hold the power button and manually turn it off.

the Shut Down option in the Menu bar has disappeared. Can anyone suggest how I can get it back?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I changed some setting somewhere, but this is a bit annoying. Before buying a song in Amazon MP3, to preview, I click the little play button - it used to play in the browser... now it plays it in iTunes. Anyone know what the issue might be? I'm forced then to remove the link it adds to my iTunes library after every preview.

I can't restart or shut down the mini, due to "operations still in progress." How do I workaround this problem? It seems to occur after I've done a Software Update. The only way I can shut down is with the power switch.

Is this an indication that some hardware item is needing replacing? After a shut-down I'm having to keep the power button depressed for probably up to a minute before the system comes to life.

After "upgrading" to Lion, my MacPro refuses to complete either a Restart or Shut Down cycle. How can I discover what is hanging up the process? System: MacPro1,1; 8GB RAM, OS X 10.7.3, 4x2TB internal drives, all software updates applied. Â

In Lion, when restarting, many apps restart as well and open up many docs, slowing startup with stuff I don't want. I have unchecked the "restore windows when quitting and re-starting" box in system preferences>general. There has been no effect. Now what?

I have added all of the updates and patches but the problem continues. It started with one application and now it's happening to others where they shut down suddenly at start-up and have to be restared and the windows restored. It's a brand new computer and wasn't doing this initially.

I can never exit mail and then I can't shut my computer. Then I have to press the button in the back of the imac but when I turn it back on mail is still on.

For some reason, every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. Â
I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back. Â

All of a sudden, I can't open/use the Preview app. I was going to pull the plist but I can't find any. In the process, I don't see a Library for the individual users.

I searched for one hour on google, but couldn't find the answer nowhere: how can I enlarge the preview in Spotlight? You see, I'm on a cinema display. The preview of a doc Spotlight gives me is only about 5% of my screen surface, which is way too small to be readable. I would be extremely thankful to the person giving the right answer on how to make the preview in spotlight bigger.

There are several discussions about how to stop Preview crashing in Lion but none work for me. However, if I create a new user, Preview is back to normal. There is also information from Apple on creating a root user, which some people have suggested as a solution but the steps shown for Lion are not replicated on my computer.Â
So- has anyone an idea why Preview works with one user and not another? how to create a root user? Â
