Mar 21, 2012I own a macbook with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b) operating system. The problem with my macbook is that when i shut it down freezes before it turns off. In order to fix the problem i repaired th disk permissions and i reinstalled the operating system but the same thing happens all the time.

IMac Freezes When Do A Shut Down
Mar 23, 2012My iMac won't shut down completely any more.It gets to a white screen and then freezes, and I have to hold down the power button to get it to shut down.I have also been getting intermittent kernel panics, maybe one every 3 or 4 days.I went through all of the troubleshooting steps to try and figure out the cause, with no luck. Did a new install of Lion and everything seemed OK for a few days, and then started having problems with programs not responding, not being able to shut down, and now getting kernel panics again.Considering completly formatting the drive and starting fresh with everything, but not sure if that would solve the problem either.

OS X :: Screen Pixelates / Freezes Then Must Shut Down?
Apr 6, 2010I have a iMac G5 that I bought right when they came out, so in 2004 I think. Its a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, 2 GB DDR SDRAM (which I just upgraded to about 1 year ago), and I am running Version 10.4.11.
I have about 10GB of memory open, the rest is full, so I am aware I need to free up more space, just on the fence about how to do it.
So, the problem is today I turned it on, opened Safari and was playing on Facebook, I had it open maybe 5 mins when the screen started to pixelate but first I thought Facebook was just being weird again, when it started happening to the whole screen. Then I moved the mouse to shut down Safari and a block of yellow and black started filling the screen and thats when I manually shut it down. This has happened before, maybe in 2006 and I had to get it fixed, but I do not recall what was wrong with it.
Any ideas? I haven't opened Safari again because I don't want my computer to crash. I absolutely love this thing and while I do have some things backed up, I'm storing lots of important things on here. Is it time I just bought a new computer or should I buy an ext hard drive and maybe this is just a storage issue, or do I need to take it somewhere?
I'm just wondering if, because its about 6 years old now, if its worth to pay to get anything fixed? But I just upgraded everything about a year ago when I bought more RAM. If I were to get a new computer, can I take this RAM out of here and put it in the new one? Or would that all be wasted?
OS X :: ISight Light Won't Turn Off And IMac Freezes At Shut Down?
Jan 7, 2011tonight I started having trouble with my intel iMac (running OSX 10.4.11). I'm having issues with two things (bolded for those skimming):
Out of seemingly nowhere, my iSight light turned on and now wont turn off. The only program I had open at the time was Firefox. When I try to open up PhotoBooth it says this:
There's nothing listed under USB High-Speed Bus in the system profiler either.
I've tried logging out of my user account, restarting, shutting down, unplugging and holding the back button for 5 seconds ...none of that worked. I tried resetting my Mac's PRAM and NVRAM. That didn't work either, and that's where a second problem appeared: when I try to shut my computer off, it freezes. I have to shut it off by holding the back button.
Is repairing the permissions and/or disk worth a shot? Or should I just take it straight into the Apple store? I hope it's not a hardware issue because I just recently had a new hard-drive installed after it broke down on December 15.

Oct 7, 2009I've just upgraded to 10.6.1 from leopard. Whilst on leopard I had no problems at all with my Macbook Pro (Early 2008, 2.5Ghz) and for the most part snow leopard seems to work pretty well. However I'm having some issues with sleep. To start with my computer wouldn't even shut down properly after installing snow leopard; it would shut down for 3-4 seconds and then restart of it's own accord.
I've tried a few solutions that I've seen in forums for people with similar problems (such as reset PRAM, SMC, repairing permissions and deleting certain PLIST files) and now my mac will properly shut down, but still not sleep correctly. Now my mac will only sleep if it is on battery power and I activate sleep by closing the lid, if I activate it in the menu or if the power cord is connected (by any method of activating sleep) then my mac will sleep then 3 seconds later turn back on. As far as I'm aware I've got no programs that are causing this and I have turned all network and bluetooth 'wake' demands off. I also have nothing connected to my mac.
MacBook Pro :: How To Shut Down After Installing New OS
Mar 22, 2012I am selling my MBP, so I used the Snow Leopard desk to "wipe" my data from the machine, and then I re-intalled OS 10.6. Now the computer is at the "welcome" screen as if it was just purchased at the store. It asks you to select your country, your languge, etc, and then it asks if you are restoring from a Time Machine backup or what exactly you'd like to do.
My problem is (and I know this sounds stupid) I don't know how to turn the computer off now that it's as this "beginning" stage. It doees ot have the usual selections at the top of the screen (like the Apple Menu, etc), so I'm not sure what to do. For now, I just closed the lid and I'm hoping that it worked and it's currenlty sleeping. Â
But I'd like to be able to shut the machine down so that I can ship it to the new buyer. Â
PS: I also have the new iLife that I'd like to put on it (it had it before I wiped the data), but I can't figure out how to do that either. The machine is not setup for a user yet, and I don't want to mess it up for the person who is buying it. Is there anything I can do that will allow me to install it?

PowerPC :: Ibook Shut Off After Re-installing OS X Now Won't Turn On?
Jan 16, 2009I bought an ibook a little while ago because I wanted a small, simple notebook and I love my home iMac. I found one for a good price on eBay and when it arrived everything seemed ok. I wanted to re-install the OS and set everything to my specifications because I was having a little trouble with some of the apps. Anyway, I went through the lengthy re-install and just as it finished counting down the seconds to completion, it shut down. I thought it might be in sleep mode because the little white light was on, so I hit a key and the light went off but nothing happened. Nothing on the screen, no HD noise, nothing. I'm at a loss because I really don't know much at all about hardware or software, which is why I liked the user-friendly Mac so much. The only thing that tells me it's getting power is the little green light at the power connector. I tried a PMU reset (there's no reset button on my model so it was a button combo of shift-ctrl-option-power I think) but that didn't do anything.

I was using the FAT system with 32gb partitioned space, however I also tried it on all of the other modes but it doesn't work either and always stops at 28%.

Aug 8, 2010I just did a fresh reinstall of 10.6 after my hard drive crashed on me last week. I'm reinstalling my preference panes, but am running into a problem. Whenever I try to install a preference pane for all users, it asking for my credentials as usual. Then the window becomes unresponsive and starts to pinwheel. When you check the dock, System Preferences is listed as "Not Responding". I've let it sit there for five or so minutes and nothing changes. If the preference panes comes with an installer (like iStat Menus) I have no issues.

Oct 31, 2010I have a 17" iMac G4 that I was rung Tiger with, then I installed Leopard 10.5. I use this as a second computer. All is fine except that my Epson scanner does not work with 10.5. I've tried the latest drivers. I'd like to reinstall Tiger. I used the 10.5 disc to reformat the drive and start from square one. When I boot from my original Tiger disc it starts opening it's windows, but when I get to the point where I can choose Install or use Disk Utility to reformat from the Tiger disc, all windows freeze and I need to hard reboot from the power switch. Am I correct to assume that 10.5 won't let 10.4 to reinstall. Is this correct?

I am running AVID Symphony which is not qualified for 10.7.4 yet so I am not going to do the update yet. Â

Jun 5, 2012Ever since I have upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, sometimes MacBook Pro doesn't shutdown or restart. I choose shutdown or restart it logs me out then there is the gray screen with the turning little dotted circle and it doesn't reboot or turn off, so I have to hold the power button and manually turn it off.
