Apr 9, 2010Is there a way to automatically save "pages" files in word.doc format, or do you have to do it manually each time? I sure can't find a setting to do what I want.

I have both pages and word 08 for mac on my computer. All of my professors and the university use office 2007 for windows. My question is, should I save my documents in pages and export them as word docs to be compatible with word 07 for windows, or should i save them as word docs in word 08 for mac?
I have recently started using Pages in iwork over Office, I like the easy formatting and usability of Pages. But I have to send all these recently create pages doc in a word format to someone and so I did the Save as Word option. When I opened the Word file in Word all the text formatting went all over the place, it looked like it put extra tabs in there and there is a split down the middle of the text like it has put it in two columns.
Is there any way to ensure that when I create my pages document that the formatting is agreeable with word.
I have a:
Macbook Pro running Mac OSX 10.5.8
(Office 2008) Word, Exel, PowerPoint, (Iwork 2009) Numbers, Pages will not save:.
I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.
Up until yesterday I was solely a Windows/PC-based computer user. I am now running Mac OS X with my new Mac Pro. Before turning off my PC system, hopefully forever, I downloaded all my MS Word files to a USB stick. I'm a writer and only worked in MS Word for my work.I just purchased iWork '09 and am very impressed with the Pages App and I'm very excited to start working in Pages '09. when I insert my USB stick with all my Word Docs on it into my Mac Pro, is it a case like under Windows/XP where you just open up each file with the Pages '09 program or is there something more to do to get Pages '09 to open the file up and save it within Pages '09? I understand Pages '09 works with MS Word files (as well as formatting to Word docs to send to colleagues).
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn dreaded Microsoft word I use "Save As", then click "Options" and there is the option to save my file with a password so that my kids can't get in and muck up my business writing.
I can't see "Options" under "Save as" but I'm just trialling iWorks (full iWorks disc arrives next week).
I cannot save a document in Word or Word-compatible form. The only options I am given in File is "Save a Version," which does not provide for saving in Word. How do I do this?

I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

Pages just crashed on me and I lost 5 really important links which took hours to find. Why would they not put an auto save in? How hard can it be? Did they say something like our software doesn't crash so no auto save? I've found this thread
http://www.macworld.com/forums/ubbth...08&Main=487629
But I really cant work out how to get this to work in automator, can someone help me at all, I put it in script editor and it does nothing for me when I run it.
When I use Firefox, I automatically get a "do you want to save" message when I close down so when I restart FF, I'm back with my same tabs, etc. Never happens with Safari. I even input ID's at websites which aren't held the next time around. Can I get Safari to act like FF when it comes to saving tabs, site Id's, and such.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my auto-correct has a dictionary based in spanish. Example: when editing my resume I have put down the word Administrative , but it says it is wrong and gives suggestions such as Administrativa or Administrativo.
I have changed the spell check options to only have US english as the default setting and this suddenly pops up. I never put Spanish in my international language settings on the mac, nor have I had someone who speaks spanish use the computer.
Is there a way to have a Safari webpage refresh automatically every minute to every couple minutes? I have a page that updates very frequently that I need info from. I am not really familiar with RSS but does it do something like that? I seriously doubt this site does not have a feed (if thats what it needs).

Is there any program that you can upload a text list or Excel list to and it will do this automatically and create the e-mails in your drafts folder? Don't want to use a online sending service because they put crap at the bottom of the e-mail and recipients know it's automated.Want the people to think it's not something automated. Also, I know there's a way to schedule delivery of a message for a future date in Apple Mail via Apple Script, but you seem to have to schedule one by one. Any watch to do a batch scheduling?

Apparently my friend has pages 08 on her MB and it doesn't offer an option to save in Word 97 format.
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i create a PDF file of my *.docx in Word 2008, I get a 'strange' PDF. This happens wether I use the "Save as PDF..." from the print dialog, or save the file as a PDF from Word's own "Save as..." dialogue.
Opening the PDF in either Preview or Adobe Acrobat works just fine, and the PDF looks just like I want it to be, but whenever I mark some text, a whole range of text is marked.
Thus it is impossible to mark just a single line/word/character and the produced PDFs are useless in my line of work, since I need people to mark text in them and post comments.
Interesting facts:
1) When I "Save as PostScript..." from Word 2008, then open the *.ps file in Preview and save as PDF from there, everything is fine.
2) Printing to PDF via print dialogue -> "Save as PDF..." produces perfect PDFs in any other Program (such as TextMate), also with selectable text.
I am making the transition back to Mac pretty good except for a couple of programs that worked pretty good. Basically I have my DVD's stored in .MKV files for my Popcorn hour streamer. On my windows pc I use a DVD ripping program to save just the main movie in .ISO format. Then I would use another app that would save the .ISO as a .MKV. I'm having trouble finding a program that does what MakeMKV does. It basically puts a movie in a .MKV container without any compression plus chapters.
It takes basically 5 minutes for this program to do it. I have converted 160 of my DVD's this way so far and love it. I don't care to compress any of my movies since HD's are so cheap these days. This is the program I'm referring to. [URL]. From the start with ripping a movie and ending up with an .MKV the process is about 30 min with this program. Is they're a program that does what makemkv does? Am I better off trying to run Windows in virtualization with these apps?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe title says it all. Pages 09 is intermittently hanging (spinning beachball) when I try to save or export a document. It doesn't happen EVERY time, so I can't reproduce it, but it's happened several times in the past few days. I'm running Snow Leopard on an original Intel iMac. Everything is updated to the latest versions. What might be causing this or how to stop it?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi just basically screwed it up. When i started writing it i first saved in .odt and later i saved it in .txt and unicode format. I thought everything's gonna be fine so i deleted the .odt files and had cleared the trash bin but that's where the nightmare began.
I went to the printing shop to get the essays to be printed but their windows computer couldn't "read" the chinese characters and it all turns out as "?" sign. I thought it was only a windows problem but when i went back to open it in my MBP, it's all "?" too. So i quickly installed a data recover program and i am just praying that i can recover the .odt files I would be dead if my essays are totally lost. Anyway, the question is: What extension is best to save a Chinese word document? AND, I just deleted the .odt files yesterday, do you think there's still a chance for it to be recovered?
does anybody know a way to save a Pages document as a Word DOC file with the used fonts embedded so that somebody on another (Windows) computer can see the document exactely the way I do even without having some used fonts? (PDF instead of DOC isn't possible as the text still needs to be editable for this other person.) I already searched the whole net and I am afraid this isn't possible, but just to be sure: If anybody knows a way, it would be nice if you could let me know.
