I don't mind iWork, but one thing that bugs me is having to specify all the time that i'd like to save the document as the microsoft version (ppt, doc, excel etc) instead of the apple formats. It also isn't that fun to then have to navigate to where the original file is and overwrite it. Any way to just have the apps default save your documents (whether new or old) as microsoft versions?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new MacBook Pro and used the iWork '09 trial that was offered - and thought it was great. I made lots of new documents in the trial period but at the end of it, I thought I would see if I could install my old version of iWork 08 from a previous computer. I found that I could do this, but it would not open any iWork '09 files, so I had to buy iwork '09 anyway as I had done so much work with it. I got caught out I think! Did anyone else find this too?

I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.

Why is save as an iWork 08 file an option in the new iWork 09 programs? Does iWork 08 use a different extension that cannot open iWork 09 documents?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently bought Macbook Pros for my 2 daughters and we took the 30 day iWork trial. At the end of the trial we downloaded a purchased version on to one of the Macbooks and the second one seemed to be able to download it without buying it again which was fine. However, we now have a problem in that both machines have two versions of iWork and we can't work out how to remove the trial version. This would be OK except that we are then having problems printing and saving as it keeps telling us that the trial version has expired and trying to get us to buy it again.

But after the reinstalls, the text in ALL .pages documents doesn't show anymore. I can highlight it and I can see it - but no amount of fiddling with text colour or background colour does the trick. Funnily enough, I can print the documents without any problems.

Just recently all of my Microsoft Office applications have quit working - they crash as soon as they load. (Sneaky lil buggers act like they are going to work and wait 5 secs after loading a blank template and make me a lil hopeful before they close down!) I'm getting my first Mac tomorrow, an iMac 24" 2.8. After 20 years on PCs, I'm fed up with Windows. I've been fairly methodical in going over the PC, inch by inch and file by file, to make sure everything I need is brought over and can be used on the iMac. One of the biggest problems is 15 years of documents which were prepared in WordPerfect. I understand that neither iWork or MS Office can convert them. I also heard of AbiWord, a freeware program which can view and convert almost anything. So, I have a few choices. Since I'm going through each doc to see if I even need it or want it, I can convert each one in WordPerfect after I make the decision, to an MS Doc file (MS WORD 2003, RTF, ANSI, ASCII, or other files. If I do that, will iWork be able to read the file? What would be the best format to convert it too?
Or, I can decide what to keep and bring it over in WordPerfect format. When and if I need it, I can use AbiWord to convert at that time. Of course, this means adding an application to my computer. Does iWork/Pages emulate MS Word in the ability to read and convert other formats? What is the native format for saving in iWork? Is it a .DOC file? Any suggestions for the best method for me to transfer the files to the new computer and eventually use them? Does any program Batch process the conversions? BTW: I already purchased iWork, because of my belief that its 100% compatible with MS Office, and because it appears that any type of document I want to produce can be accomplished in iWork.
I have hundreds of Microsoft WORD docs, and just updated to Lion. I am informed they are no longer supported. What is the easiest way to bring them up through Pages?

where no matter if I close a window or document, windows/docs which had previously been open relaunch if I relaunch the app. For instance, I launch Safari and go to the following three sites: URL... I subsequently close blue.com and the later close safari completely. Upon re-launching Safari, I would expect red and white to reopen (the two sites that were open when I closed the program), however red. white AND blue reopen.
this was just an example, in reality when this again just happened a few minutes minutes ago, Safari relaunched 27 websites in 4 different windows, even though I had specifically closed all sites/windows and quit out of Safari before re-launching.
Similarly, upon restarts, the OS not only re-launches apps and windows I had open at the time I requested the restart but many documents, windows and applications that were CLOSED at the time I restarted the computer. When I close something, that seems like a clear indication that I am done with it and don't need it open. OS seems to feel differently.

Since I updated the latest software on 2/2/12, Office For Mac doesn't work correctly. I can not open Excel or Word documents from Office. I cannot save a newly created document. However, I can open an exsisting document by going to the hard drive and double clicking the document I need. I can't save changes I make to the document once opened.

I close all my programs before shutting down. Since installing Lion, programs I used recently relaunch when I start up the machine, sometimes the next day. No, I don't have "Start on Login" selected for these apps in the dock. Another weird thing: I selected a Word document to open, the app launched and the last document I was in also opened, even though I didn't select it.

I just bought my first computer in November. The Apple Store manager (who was great btw) insisted that I needed The Microsoft Word program, which I bought. I rarely use it. Today I found out I had a 30 day trial version of iWork on my computer and took the little tour. Fortunately I am not familiar with either program enough to have a preference. My needs are mostly personal. I do need to be able to do inventory, fliers, etc. for my 'at home' business, projects and/ or informative stuff for my kids school, and various personal projects. I like it clean, creative and simple. But I have a few questions:
1.) Why would the manager tell me I needed Word, if I had iWork already on my computer? (aren't they just 2 different versions of the same thing? iWork looks better.)
2.) Does that 30 day 'trial' start when I bought my MacBook or when I first use it?
Which would you recommend? VMware with Microsoft Office 2007 (Windows), Office 2008 Mac (native), or iWork (Apple's version)? iWork looks beatiful, especially Keynote. What do you think?

The only problem is my school prefers Microsoft Office programs. I understand you can change the file extensions in iWork and such. So does this kill the essentialness of anything windows for students?
On my iMac and MacBookPro I cannot save .pages documents to iCloud iWork. They appear on the iWork screen, but I cannot retrieve them.
However, from my iPad it is no problem!. After editing in iPad and save the documents to iCloud back it is possible to download these on my iMac or MacBookPro without problem.
