OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Drag Applications To The Trash?
May 6, 2012
I downloaded a beta test recently, now it's finished I have the folder sitting in my Applications folder, but it won't let me drag it out into the trash. I've logged in as an Administrator, changed my regular ID to have Admin status, none of it works. I've got the CCleaner app from the App Store, same issue. It tells me I need to be an Admin to uninstall files, but even when I log in as the Admin, it gives me the same message.
I've been trying to clean up a bunch of duplicates but when I highlight a photo and then take the option "move to trash" it simply moves the highlight to the next photo but the system acts as though I have moved the first photo to trash as the option to move to trash is now unavailable. I am running snow leopard but I am sure I have performed this task before in this version of the OS. Dragging a photo to trash simply doesn't work.
up until a few days ago...maybe after 9.0.3 update...on my macbook pro under snow leopard, im certain i could drag files from itunes library or a playlist into the trash.
if i drug the file from the library to the trash, you would here the trash can "eating sound" and it would be gone from the library (one step). if it was from a playlist, it would delete that file from the playlist but not from the library as expected. now, i cant do either. now i have to right click and delete the file/s and then click move to trash.
this seems like a really simple thing i want to do but i cant seem to figure it out. All i'm trying to do is put a shortcut of the trash can onto the desktop. I have my dock hidden and it can be a pain to try and make it appear to delete something. i searched spotlight for trash and there are no hits. i try to drag the trashcan from the dock and nothing happens. There has to be a solution???
Normally consider myself quite able to troubleshoot my own problems, but I can't for the life of me figure out what to do here, and can't seem to find many others who have the same problem. The drag-and-drop function in Snow Leopard appears to be either broken or deliberately crippled. My work sees me having to move a lot of files from folder to folder, and I've discovered that, as of fairly recently, I can no longer drag-and-drop more than 85 objects from one folder to another. Up to 85, everything works just fine -- but if I select 86, upon dragging I get an "X-ed out" icon, like the "no smoking" or "no parking" circle with a line through it.
I'm not quite sure what to do about this, but would be very curious and appreciative if anyone else has the same issue, or has figured out how to solve it! This, combined with the lack of a "cut" feature in OS X has begun to really impede my workflow.
why i cannot drag and drop any file when using safari , and what happens the file auotmatically open while i need to upload it only , extra for that , i cannot write any remark or fill a space while using website related to my work.my work is to upload drawing files using dwf file to a website so the other parties can review and give me review , and then i reply to the remark at the same place and make meeting through the same site.please any body can give any way to correct my mac. latelly i installed win7 only to use it for that website , and iam now changing from mac to win whenever i want to work , this not acceptable to me because it is waste of time beside i like the mac and it working with other application but not for safari.
Info: MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), this happen after i updated my mac
I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! I'm afraid that I am going to inadvertently empty trash and lose my entire Drobo's contents! I need to figure out how to undo or put back ... come on Apple. Why'd you make this so difficult?
Since reinstalling my Lion, the Trash has been strange. I can't just drag stuff there without getting a dialogue box telling me it will be deleted immediately. That requires me to click my agreement. Same thing happens if I right-click my mouse and choose the Trash option. So my Trash basket stays empty, and I go through a two-step process with every file or program I want to be rid of.Â
I deleted alot of pictures on my macbook and when i dragged them into the trash and opened the trash there was an icon in the lower right corner that looked liked a gear suggesting it was loading the files to be deleted. its been two days without loading. how do i get the files to load so i can delete them. i already tried unsecured delete too.
For the last couple of days, I haven't been able to drag any files over from my Stacks to the Trash; nothing happens. I'm forced to open the folder and drag it over from there or Apple+Delete it. I *might* have accidentally deleted a file (I don't remember which) causing this to suddenly happen and haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. It's more of an annoyance than anything else.
In an attempt to delete duplicate files from my iTunes folder, I accidentally deleted the entire contents of the folder into the Trash. I have NOT emptied the trash. I can open the trash can and see all of my files there.
Here's the problem: I click on the files (one or multiple) and try to drag them to another location. They won't drag. I've tried several times.
When ever I move any file to the trash, or choose delete from the file menu. Snow Leopard always warns me that this file will be deleted immediately and can not be recovered. How do I get the trash to function again?
i used "chflags -R nouchg " in terminal but all i get is some message and permision denied... how i solve this coz the trash can seems empty when i remove the external drive once i connect it the trash can is full again..
I can't empty my trash can as I get a message stating "This operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003). I tried using the program "Trash It" and nothing happened, not even an error message. I tried the program "Force Empty Trash" and get the message "rm: /Users/MYUSERNAME/.Trash/*: No Such file or directory" I even tried using terminal using this command: "rm -rf ~/.Trash/*" and no avail.I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8?
Has anyone else got this issue? You have a bunch of files you want to move to trash. You highlight them all, then right click, but "Move to trash" is missing from the menu.
If I highlight just one, the "move to trash" option is there. But disappears when multiple items are selected.
Anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix I can do to get "move to trash" for multiple selected items back?
I just upgraded to SL. Now I got crazy on my Trash. Whenever and Whatever I drag a file, a movie, a pic, everything, it will not move the the trash. Instead system warms me "This item will be detect immediately, you can't undo this action." And the item is detect directly. I always have a empty trash.
Not too long ago I looked through the list of things I had put in the Trash. Some how I over looked a document I should have removed from the Trash and Empetyed Trash. There is some way to locate what has been empteyed from the Trash and get it onto the Desktop. How do I do that?Â
I have not Secured Empty Trash... so my document should still be able to be found and removed from the Emptey Trash.
Another stuck! A file is created in the trash of an external drive in the "Recovered files" folder. Impossible to delete it. Has a name with signs and dots (if that helps), not letters.Instead of back-up the hole disc and verify it, is there anything else i can do?
Using snow leopard, I have a recent problem. When trying to view a pdf file in safari, I get the message to upgrade to the latest version of adobe but I do have the latest version.Â
I have tried to send the plugin to trash as suggeted here but still no luck.Â
Is there a way to completely remove files from my system without moving them to the Trash?  I've read about the Trash, but I'm not clear on EXACTLY how it works. Can I empty A file from the trash or when I click on a file & choose "Emtpy the Trash" does it empty ALL of the files in the Trash or just that one file?  Is there a way to just empty ONLY 1 file from the trash or restore ONLY 1 file from the Trash if so how? ALSO, what are the "rules" for MOVING files rather than COPYing them? I thought files that went from one folder to another on the same drive, were moved & ones that went to different drives were copied. It seems like I've run acrorss instances where that's not how things work.
I just opened my Trash bin, and there were maybe 12-15 items in ithere. But when I use Secure Delete, the pop-up box says there are 931 items, and it then proceeds to delete them---I guess.I only saw the 12-15 files, and that's it.
I've found some possible solutions in other threads, but none worked. So here goes. I have an internal disk called "Maryam" I use for projects (not my startup/system disk). For some reason, when I send files from it to trash, I get this:Â Â
Here's how it looks in my Get Info: Here's how it looks from Sharing:Â None of my other disks have this problem. Why and what do I need to do?
